Weekend Wrap: NFL

Lets jump right into the Week 4 action:

Baltimore 16, San Diego 13
Well, I lost my first Bullz-Eye.com NFL Game of the Week prediction- thank you very much San Diego.

This was an utter botchery by the Chargers and there isn’t any other way to put it. San Diego led in this contest the whole way, but once again the Ravens keep a game close enough to pull out a win in the end. That defense seems like it can suffocate an offense an time it feels like it doesn’t it? Oh, we’re losing and we need to hold the opponent to one yard the rest of the game? Done deal.

That’s twice in two weeks that QB Steve McNair has looked like utter garbage until the final possession of the game. McNair hooked up with TE Todd Heap on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds left in the game after trailing the Chargers 13-7 all day.

Once again, Phillip Rivers wasn’t asked to do too much, which is okay while you’re trying to build experience and confidence for a young quarterback. However, at some point during this season and in the future, the Chargers are going to need Rivers to strap on the big boy pants and win a game for them. Quite frankly, I don’t know if he can put an entire game on his shoulders right now.

Most impressed with: Somehow RB Ladianian Tomlinson managed 98 yards on the ground against the Ravens defense. The guy is amazing and easily the best back in football.

Least impressed with: The Chargers lack of discipline and the ability to not turn the ball over. San Diego was flagged 20 times, fumbled three times and threw one interception.

Chicago 37, Seattle 6
A lot of football media outlets dubbed this contest the game of the week – so much for that. I think it’s time for everybody (myself included) to start believing that this Bears offense is legit. It’s not like the Bears put up 37 points on Green Bay or Detroit’s defense – the Seahawks D is normally pretty stout.

QB Rex Grossman is playing unbelievable football right now and finally got support from a Chicago run game that has been absent for the past three weeks. Grossman finished with 232 yards and two touchdowns – including another long heave to WR Bernard Berrian – while RB Thomas Jones racked up 98 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries.

Most impressed with: Grossman, but you can’t talk about the Bears without mentioning the defense. Without RB Shaun Alexander, the Bears defense straight up harassed QB Matt Hasselback. Hasselback was sacked five times, picked off twice and was continuously pressured all game.

Least impressed with: I thought that something looked funny with Seattle’s defense against the Giants last week and maybe I was on to something (surprised I might have stumbled on to something? Me too…). Coming into the game Seattle had one of the best run defenses in the NFL, but got tore up by Jones and to a lesser extent, Cedric Benson. Chicago racked up 362 yards of total offense and 37 points on what was a top ranked defense. Fluke? I don’t think so after two ugly performances against New York and Chicago.

Quick Shots:
New England is like the NFL equivalent to a freakin’ gnat, aren’t they? The Patriots never die, never go away and are always hanging around when you don’t want them to. There is no excuse in only putting up 13 points on a New England secondary that features a bunch of nobodies and Rodney Harrison. Losing 38-13 on your home field is just embarrassing for a Cincinnati team that just smacked around its arch rivals on the road last week…Don’t look now, but the Washington is starting to hit their groove on offense. WR Santana Moss showed glimpses of what he did in ’05 with four catches for 138 yards and three touchdowns – including the game winner in overtime – as the Redskins knocked off the Jaguars 36-30. What happened to that stellar Jacksonville defense? Washington finished a shade under 500 total yards on offense…Another team that is starting to revive its season is Carolina after the Panthers knocked off the Saints 21-18. Carolina isn’t crushing its competition, but obviously with WR Steve Smith back in the fold (10 catches, 87 yards and one TD), the Panthers must feel unstoppable again. New Orleans keeps proving how tough they are though, and hardly showed a letdown after its emotional Monday night victory…One team that is falling back down to earth in a hurry is Minnesota. With a 17-12 loss in Buffalo Sunday, the Vikings have lost back to back games after starting the season 2-0 and somehow let QB J.P. Losman throw for 222 yards against them. Buffalo has a very underrated defense by the way – as they held RB Chester Taylor to 23 total yards on the ground Sunday…I think the Atlanta Falcons are the No. 1 team in college football right now. About 85% of the Falcons running plays come out of the spread option, which is mainly used on the collegiate level. QB Michael Vick – 11 carries for 101 yards on the ground in Atlanta’s 32-10 win over the Cardinals – but his passing is abysmal. Kurt Warner fumbled twice more on the season and threw a pick that was returned for a touchdown. So, Arizona puts in rookie Matt Leinart who gets sacked on his second career snap and fumbles on his third…Julius Jones and Dallas dismantled Tennessee 45-14 in rookie Vince Young’s first start in the NFL. Young was 14 of 29 for 155 yards and threw a touchdown pass. He was also intercepted twice – one was returned for a Dallas touchdown. Jones finished with 122 yards on the ground and WR Terry Glenn caught two touchdown passes from QB Drew Bledsoe…Speaking of an utter beat down – Kansas City routed San Fran 41-0 at Arrowhead. QB Damon Huard threw two touchdown passes, but the real stud was RB Larry Johnson, who finally got his wheels rolling. Johnson finished with 30 carries for 101 yards and two scores…Close, but no cigar for the NY Jets again this weekend. The Jets battled the Colts all day, but eventually fell victim to Indianapolis 31-28. The best part for the Colts was having success on the ground (160 total yards) – something that has eluded Indianapolis so far for most of this season…Houston beat Miami 17-15 and about the only noteworthy thing from this contest is that Mario Williams finally registered his first sack of the season. Although, seriously, how hard is it to sack Daunte Culpepper? …A whole bunch of things happened in the Cleveland-Oakland game believe it or not. First off, the Browns got their first win – 24-21. QB Charlie Frye threw three touchdown passes, RB Lamont Jordan actually ran the ball hard (20 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown) and Randy Moss scored his first touchdown of the season! Moss – 1 catch, five yards, one touchdown. And that was against the most beat up secondary in the entire NFL. Don’t strain yourself Randy…What a day for the city of Detroit. First, its Tigers blow a 6-0 lead to the Kansas City Royals and lose an extra innings game to give the Minnesota Twins the AL Central division (after having a 10 game lead just a few weeks ago). Then, the Lions blow about 400 leads and fall to St. Louis 41-34. But hey, at least Detroit gets to watch the Tigers in the playoffs – albeit against the New York Yankees – something it will never get to see the Lions do again. Ever. Okay, maybe not ever, but Lions fans have to be wondering if its worth it anymore, right?

Random Thoughts:

– Seriously, if you were a gambler this weekend, was there any more solid lock than the New England Patriots getting points coming off of a loss? I know they were on the road and playing an undefeated Bengals team, but the Patriots haven’t lost back-to-back games now in 53 consecutive contests. That’s unbelievable.

– Statement of the day by an announcer comes from Brian Baldinger, who did the color for the Cardinals-Falcons game. When asked why Atlanta was struggling to score in the red zone, Baldinger dropped this little ditty on America:

“Well, the Falcons are red, the Cardinals are red – and there is a whole lot of red going on down there in the red zone. I’m sure what (Falcons head coach) Jim Mora told his team at halftime was that we have to convert while we’re done there (in the red zone).”

Sweet Brian.

– Runner up statement of the day by an announcer comes from Tim Green who did the color commentary for the Lions-Rams game:

“What the Rams can’t afford to do here Sam (Rosen) is turn the ball over in the red zone, because that would give the Lions possession of the ball.”

Oh, if only FOX could somehow get both Green and Baldinger in the same booth together, they’d have commentary gold for years to come.

– There might not be a team in the NFL that deserves to be 4-0 as much as the New York Jets do. The Jets are 2-2, but New York has battled two superior opponents in New England and Indianapolis to the death. Eric Magini has his team ready to play every single week.

– The leading scorer out of all kickers Sunday was 76-year-old Morten Anderson of the Falcons. Is there anybody in the entire league that is having more fun than that guy?

– The Lions’ Roy Williams may be a big goof with all of his first down celebrations and guarantees, but that guy is a pure playmaker.

– How about the ’06 running back class on Sunday? Laurence Marnoey – 15 carries, 125 yards and two touchdowns. Jerious Norwood – 6 carries, 106 yards and one touchdown. Joseph Addai – 20 carries 84 yards and a touchdown. Maurice Jones-Drew – 3 catches for 53 yards and a touchdown. Reggie Bush – 11 carries for 22 yards and four receptions for 48 yards. Brian Calhon of the Lions – ahh, skip this one.

– I’ve said this before, but I have to say it again: man did Sports Illustrated drink the cool aid on the Miami Dolphins. What a farce that team is.

– Speaking of drinking the cool aid, how many people got fooled in to thinking that Ronnie Brown was going to be a top tier running back by the end of the season? I think WR Chris Chambers has more rushing yards than Brown does this season.

Fantasy Football: The Postgame, Week 4

Most of Week 4 is behind us and there are several clear choices for this week’s Headliners and Flatliners. One QB torched his former coach’s new team, while a diminutive WR had a HUGE game against a pretty damn good defense. On the other hand, the QB situation in Arizona is a complete mess and a speedy Minnesota wideout can’t hold onto the ball. But enough with the tease, let’s get to this week’s Headliners and Flatliners.

HEADLINERS

Mark Bulger (328 yards, 3 TD)
After throwing for an average of 237 yards and 0.7 TD in the first three games, Bulger exploded against the Lions, exacting revenge on his former coach, Mike Martz. I don’t know if there is any bad blood between the two, but the way Bulger played, it certainly looked like he wanted to beat his old coach. The Rams are more of a ball control team now than they’ve been in the past decade, so I wouldn’t expect these kinds of numbers on a regular basis.

Honorable Mention: Mark Brunell (329 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT), Byron Leftwich (289 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT), Drew Brees (349 yards, 1 TD), Jon Kitna (280 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT), Peyton Manning (217 yards, 1 pass TD, 1 rush TD), Charlie Frye (192 yards, 3 TD, 2 INT), Damon Huard (208 yards, 2 TD), David Carr (230 yards, 1 pass TD, 1 INT, 1 rush TD)

Larry Johnson (34 touches, 142 yards, 2 TD)
Fantasy owners who drafted LJ over LT2 were rewarded today with a stellar effort from Johnson and the rest of the KC offense (while LT2 had a quiet day, thanks to Marty Schottenheimer’s propensity to sit on a lead). Of course, LJ put up these numbers against a suspect San Francisco defense, which simply looked clueless today. Still, it has to be encouraging for his owners after two outings without a TD to start the season.

Honorable Mention: Laurence Maroney (16 touches, 140 yards, 2 TD), Kevin Jones (24 touches, 97 yards, 2 TD), Steven Jackson (28 touches, 146 yards, 1 TD), LaMont Jordan (22 touches, 141 yards, 1 TD), Clinton Portis (29 touches, 140 yards, 1 TD), Julius Jones (23 touches, 122 yards, 1 TD), DeShaun Foster (17 touches, 111 yards, 1 TD), Joseph Addai (23 touches, 99 yards, 1 TD)

Santana Moss (4 rec, 138 yards, 3 TD)
Moss was hands-down the best WR on the day, torching the Jags for 138 yards and 3 TD, including the game winner in overtime. He caught TD passes from 55 yards and 68 yards out, making two terrific runs after the catch. The Jags have a pretty good defense, so it looks like the Washington offense is starting to catch on to Al Saunders’ complicated system.

Honorable Mention: Mike Furrey (8 rec, 82 yards, 2 TD), Reggie Williams (5 rec, 93 yards, 2 TD), Marques Colston (5 rec, 132 yards, 1 TD), Andre Johnson (9 rec, 101 yards, 1 TD), Torry Holt (6 rec, 102 yards, 1 TD), Isaac Bruce (7 rec, 100 yards, 1 TD), Steve Smith (10 rec, 87 yards, 1 TD), Roy Williams (9 rec,, 139 yards), Eddie Kennison (6 rec, 86 yards, 1 TD), Terry Glenn (5 rec, 54 yards, 2 TD)

Todd Heap (4 rec, 60 yards, 1 TD)
Heap was dinged up most of the week, but managed to grab four balls, including the game-winning TD with just less than three minutes to play in the game. Steve McNair has always leaned on his tight end, and it looks like he and Heap are developing a nice rapport in Baltimore.

Honorable Mention: Ben Troupe (3 rec, 39 yards, 1 TD), Kellen Winslow (3 rec, 31 yards, 1 TD)

FLATLINERS

Kurt Warner (128 yards, 1 INT, 1 fumble), Matt Leinart (49 yards, 1 INT, 1 fumble)
I can’t choose between Warner and Leinart, so the Flatliner goes to both players, who combined for 177 yards, two INT and two fumbles in a horrific loss to the Falcons. It will be interesting to see which player Dennis Green starts next week – it’s not like Leinart did anything to earn the job. Given all the offensive weapons on the Arizona roster, these kinds of numbers are inexcusable.

Dishonorable Mention: Alex Smith (92 yards, 2 INT), Vince Young (155 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 1 fumble), Andrew Walter (68 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT), Phillip Rivers (145 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT)

Fred Taylor (8 touches, 23 yards)
The Redskin defense shut down Taylor, who pulled one of his disappearing acts this week. Maurice Jones-Drew continues to cut into his time, so it’s not clear how much value Taylor will have the rest of the season.

Dishonorable Mention: Jamal Lewis (15 touches, 34 yards), Chester Taylor (13 touches, 37 yards), Warrick Dunn (20 touches, 65 yards), Reggie Bush (15 touches, 70 yards), Edgerrin James (25 touches, 72 yards), Frank Gore (16 touches, 79 yards)

Troy Williamson (2 rec, 27 yards)
Anyone watching Minnesota this year knows that Williamson has been plagued with drops thus far. He had nine targets against the Bills and was only able to turn that into two catches. He has the speed to get open whenever he wants against single coverage, but his hands are a big problem right now.

Dishonorable Mention: Antonio Bryant (2 rec, 29 yards), Derrick Mason (4 rec, 37 yards), Anquan Boldin (4 rec, 42 yards), Randy Moss (1 rec, 5 yards, 1 TD)

Jason Witten (2 rec, 19 yards)
How exactly do the Cowboys put up 45 points yet Witten only catches two passes for 19 yards? It seems like some weeks he’s involved in the gameplan and, in others, he’s just an afterthought. It appears that the arrival of Terrell Owens has hurt Witten more than Terry Glenn.

Dishonorable Mention: Antonio Gates (4 rec, 41 yards), Alge Crumpler (2 rec, 30 yards), Ben Watson (1 rec, 35 yards)

Fantasy Football: The Update (10/1)

ESPN has reported that Terrell Owens will start this week against the Titans. There has been talk of limiting his work, so don’t be surprised if he doesn’t play much if the Cowboys get out to a big lead…Vince Young is set to make his first start against the Cowboys…ESPN reported that it would be a surprise if Chris Henry is inactive for today’s game. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, the Bengals play in the late game, so we won’t know for sure until around 3 PM ET…Donte Stallworth doesn’t sound as sure that he’s going to play Monday night, using phrases like “you’ve got to be careful” and “I’m definitely encouraged” when describing his hammy. He’s got a great matchup against the Packers, but if you have a good option on your bench, it might be a good idea to exercise it…According to ESPN, Adam Vinatieri is out today with a sore groin. Get another kicker in there for him if he’s your starter…Travis Henry is a surprise inactive this week. He wasn’t on the injury report, so it appears that LenDale White has moved past him on the depth chart. It’s possible that last week’s featured role was meant to lead to a trade.

Weekend Wrap: College Football

So, what did we learn this weekend in college football?

– If anyone still thinks Ohio State is primed for an upset, think again because nobody is coming close to defending that offense.

– This just in: Michigan’s Mario Manningham is pretty good.

– Also just in: Division II Grand Valley State in Grand Rapids, MI has a better offense than the University of Miami – by leaps and bounds.

– I think Georgia is actually considering about just playing without a quarterback for the rest of the season.

– LSU is good, real good. The Tigers have possibly the best defense in the nation and if they had anything resembling a run game, I would put them in the top five of all of college football– easily (I’ll admit my wrong in my latest College Football Power Rankings below).

– Two of the most overachieving programs in the nation right now are both in the ACC: Georgia Tech and Clemson.

Lets take a look at the biggest games of the day and then follow the rest of the action with some quick hits:

(#1) Ohio State 38, (#13) Iowa 17
I thought this was supposed to be a huge Big Ten match up with Ohio State meeting its match with upset-minded Iowa? I guess not, because this game was virtually over by halftime.

To me, there’s no doubt that the Buckeyes have the most balanced team in all of college football right now. Add to the fact that OSU has already topped three ranked programs so far this season – including embarrassing Texas in Austin – and this team is the clear cut #1 with no dispute.

It should be clear sailing for Buckeye nation until November 18 when OSU takes on Michigan.

Most impressed with: Ohio State’s offense is just phenomenal. QB Troy Smith only threw for 186 yards in this contest, but finished with four touchdown passes and continues to get all of his playmakers involved in the passing game. RB Antonio Pittman is one of the least talked about backs in the nation, but he continues to be the backbone of OSU’s offense. Pittman totaled 117 yards on 25 carries and got into the end zone once. What more do you want from your starting back?

Least impressed with: I thought this was supposed to be the night Drew Tate showed the nation how good he is? Nice player, good team leader, but he was harassed into three interceptions tonight and his average pass completion was barely over six yards. He doesn’t deserve all of the blame for this loss though, because Tate barely got any support from his running backs. The Buckeyes have been vulnerable all season to the run on defense, but the Hawkeyes only managed 82 total yards on the ground tonight.

(#3) USC 28, Washington State 22
The Trojans got a huge road test against Washington State and hey, they came away with a victory. It can’t be pretty all the time, but good teams find ways to win in the end and that’s exactly what USC did Saturday night.

Most impressed with: You have to love the effort Steve Smith put forth in this game with No. 1 receiver Dwayne Jarrett sidelined with an injury. Smith caught 11 passes for 186 yards and two scores in Jarrett’s absence.

I have to mention the Cougars’ Michael Bumpus too, however. Bumpus didn’t score, but did have 11 receptions for 112 yards.

Least impressed with: The amount of penalties USC had in this contest. Usually Pete Carroll’s bunch is extremely disciplined, but the Trojans were flagged eight times for 105 yards in this game.

(#5) Florida 28, Alabama 13
This game had upset written all over it early on, but the Gators defense came up huge in the second half. Give ‘Bama credit though – the Crimson Tide went right at Florida all day long and showed how tough they can play.

Most impressed with: I have to go with Alabama RB Kenneth Darby. Darby finished with 76 yards and no touchdowns, but anybody who saw the game witnessed a back that runs with purpose. Darby ran north and south all game and rarely was brought down after the initial hit. If Florida’s run defense wasn’t so stingy, Darby might have carried the Crimson Tide to an upset victory on the road.

Least impressed with: QB John Parker Wilson virtually handed this game on a silver platter to Florida. Not that the Gators didn’t earn this win or didn’t work hard, but as soon as they got any kind of pressure on Wilson, he folded like a deck of cards. Three picks on the day for Wilson – including one that cost Alabama a time out late in the game because of a review.

Quick Shots:
How about (#24) Georgia Tech going into Blacksburg and stunning (#11) Virginia Tech 38-27? Holy smokes, great win for a Yellowjackets squad that played Notre Dame tough at home in the opener and have beaten the teams that they are supposed to beat and have done so soundly. What a battle it’s going to be two weeks from now when Ga Tech travels to (#18) Clemson…I must admit – one of the posters earlier in the week had it right when he said (#9) LSU should be higher in my College Football Power Rankings. Consider the Tigers’ 48-17 rout over Mississippi State (although a very bad team) a wake up call for me as far as LSU’s offense. Although I still have major speculation with its run game, QB JaMarcus Russell is the real deal and was on fire throwing for 327 yards and three touchdowns in this contest…Another team that impressed me was (#15) Tennessee. The Vols haven’t looked good at times this season, but they completely dominated in their 41-7 win over Memphis. The Tigers were without both of their starting running backs in the first half, but I don’t think it would have matted. Tennessee’s Erik Ainge was on target all game, going 23 of 27 for 324 yards and four scores and the Vols ran Memphis’s defense ragged all day… Thursday night action featured (#2) Auburn surviving a huge scare from South Carolina as the Tigers barely squeaked out a 24-17 victory over the Game Cocks. Tommy Tuberville has got to be scratching his head on how his normally stout defense surrendered 349 total yards against SC…One team that didn’t survive a scare was (#17) TCU. The Horned Frogs fell victim to BYU 31-17 and it wasn’t even that close. TCU’s potent offense was held in check all game…(#12) Notre Dame didn’t need to mount a mammoth comeback like the one the Irish had last weekend against MSU. The Irish built a 28-14 halftime lead in route to a 35-21 win over Purdue. Brady Quinn threw two touchdown passes and RB Darius Walker finally produced for the Irish with 31 carries for 145 yards and a score…(#10) Georgia shouldn’t scare anybody after another too-close-for-comfort victory over Mississippi. 14-9 over an unranked opponent after you just had a huge scare from Colorado in between the hedges last weekend, Bulldogs? They better find a quarterback – and fast…(#6) Michigan took back the Little Brown Jug from the Golden Gophers in Minnesota with a 28-14 victory on the baseball field that is the Metrodome. Manningham must feel like he’s playing with junior high athletes every weekend. Five catches, 131 yards, one touchdown and a 26.2 yards per catch average for Super Mario. Good grief.

Random Thoughts:

– Michigan State goes from nearly beating Notre Dame a week ago to fumbling away its homecoming game to a lousy Illinois team 23-20. Is there any program in the nation that crumbles as fast as the Spartans do after a huge loss? And get this – MSU’s players picked a fight with the Illini for sticking an Illinois flag at midfield in Spartan Stadium. Excuse me, but wasn’t it you MSU, that did the same thing in South Bend last year? If you dish it, you better be prepared to take it too.

– (#21) Nebraska finally plays a program just above a Division II level in Kansas and almost gets hammered. The Cornhuskers needed OT to eek out a win against the unranked Jayhawks 39-32. If NEB moves up more total spots in the AP or USA Today Polls than Georgia Tech, I may throw up.

– The Wolverines’ Mike Hart is a tough little runner. On more than a couple occasions against Minnesota, Hart was heading out of bounds and then turned back into the field for more contact. He finished with 31 carries for 195 yards and is really benefiting from Michigan throwing the ball more this season, because teams can’t key solely on the run like years past.

– (#7) Texas had a little bit of trouble in beating Sam Houston State. You see, after the Long Horns went up 42-0 at halftime, Texas only mustered 14 more points the rest of the game and only beat the Bearkats 56-3. Pfff, number seven ranked team my a…

– Watch Notre Dame sneak back into the top 10 with Virginia Tech losing. One would think it would be (#12) Oregon since the Ducks squashed Arizona State on the road, but I can almost guarantee the Irish find themselves at #10 when the new polls are released.

Fantasy Football: The Update (9/30)

Reuben Droughns is still questionable, but he practiced fully on Friday and should have plenty of room to run against a poor Oakland rush defense…Todd Heap returned to practice on Friday and has been upgraded to probable. Heap is a must-start when he plays…Houston HC Gary Kubiak intends to split the carries between Samkon Gado and Ron Dayne. Hopefully for fantasy owners, one of these guys will separate himself from the other and earn the bulk of the work. If that doesn’t happen, expect this RBBC to continue throughout the season…Donte Stallworth returned to practice Friday and should play against the Packers on Monday night. An MRI revealed a slight strain in his hamstring. Stallworth has had hamstring problems his entire pro career, so this is an injury to watch. Stallworth has a great matchup this week against the Packers…After a strange week, Terrell Owens is officially a game-time decision for Sunday. The Dallas Morning News speculates that he’ll play, but he will be limited…Brian Westbrook returned to practice on Saturday and, barring a setback, looks good to go Monday night. Westbrook owners should have Correll Buckhalter on their roster for the rest of the season as Westbrook insurance…Desmond Clark will be a game-time decision Sunday night…Matt Jones practiced all week and should see his workload increase from last week, when he barely played at all…Kellen Winslow didn’t practice fully all week. He’s listed as questionable and it’s not clear whether or not he’s going to play. There is speculation that the Browns are holding him out to rest his knee…Steve Smith practiced fully all week. This is good news for Smith owners who were worrying about how that hammy would react after Sunday’s game…Frank Gore practiced all week and was upgraded to probable. He needs to hold onto the ball in short yardage to avoid losing those duties to Michael Robinson…Reggie Wayne will play against the Jets in Week 4 after dealing with his brother’s death this week…Corey Dillon is not listed on the injury report and is expected to start against the Bengals…The injury to the knee of Jevon Kearse is not nearly as bad as initially reported. The surgery revealed only torn meniscus and a fractured tibia. Kearse could have returned this season if he hadn’t already been placed on injured reserve.
