Polamalu’s hair gets plenty of attention

In all of my years of watching football, I’ve never seen a guy’s hair get so much attention in the media.

Since RB Larry Johnson saved a touchdown by tackling Steelers safety Troy Polamalu by his hair last Sunday, the topic of Polamalu’s locks has gone widespread.

Personally, I don’t get all the hoopla. The NFL is very clear on the rule: The player’s hair is an extension of his body and the uniform – therefore making it fair game. If the athlete wants to grow his air out, by all means, go for it. Just understand that it can be used at any time during a game to take you straight to the ground.

In all fairness, the guy with the least amount of complaint on the subject is Polamalu. Even when Johnson yanked back up on his hair after the tackle was already made (which he was flagged for), Polamalu didn’t cause a scene and returned to his sidelines. And in a comment after the game, Polamalu said it best when asked if Johnson (or anybody for that matter) tackling him by his mane bothered him:

“I’m glad it happened,” Polamalu said. “It means I’ve got the ball in my hands.”

NFL Game of the Week: New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys

In honor of the 2006 NFL season, Bullz-Eye.com will take one contest off the schedule every week and break down each team’s strengths and weaknesses vs. its opponent. Plus, no preview would be complete without a forecasted score – you’ll find a prediction on the game at Bullz-Eye.com as well.

This week Tiki Barber, Eli Manning and the rest of the high-powered Giants offense will travel to Texas to take on loudmouth Terrell Owens and the Dallas Cowboys.

On tap for Week 4: Giants (3-2) at Cowboys (3-2).

This is a must listen

This would have been better a few weeks ago, but nevertheless, it’s still a must hear.

Mike Valenti is the co-host of the Sports Inferno on AM1270 WQYT in Detroit, MI and is a Michigan State alum. After Michigan State collapsed against Notre Dame a few weeks back, Valenti absolutely went off on air and completely hammed the Spartan players and coaches.

This has gone national with how funny it is, so it’s a must share clip. It’s a bit long (about 15 minutes), but trust me, it gets better as it rolls on. Enjoy.

NLCS: St. Louis 4, New York 2 (St. Louis leads 3-2)

The Mets have to be shaking in their boots right now, down 3-2 and staring down Chris Carpenter on the mound for the Cardinals. There was always a risk of the Mets being in this position the moment the news leaked that they would be losing not just Pedro but El Duque as well. Tom Glavine’s dandy, but Pedro’s mean. And mean is what wins in the playoffs.

It would be a shame, really, if the Mets came this far, only to fall apart before taking their shot at the brass ring. It would be an even bigger shame to lose to the weakest Cardinals team in years. Though to be fair, the Cards remind me of the mid-‘90s Yankees teams, the ones that had some star players (Paul O’Neill, a young Derek Jeter), but more importantly, they had a clutch supporting cast of guys like Scott Brosius and Shane Spencer. Notice that the bigger the Yankees got, the sooner their fortunes would turn in the postseason? Just a thought.

Fox is surely rooting for the Mets, not just because it would mean an extra game of playoff baseball, but because it would mean more New York baseball. As much as fans love seeing teams like the Tigers, White Sox, Marlins and Angels appear out of nowhere and win it all, Fox hates not having one of the New York teams in the Big Show. Detroit and St. Louis are ranked #11 and 52 respectively in population. Tulsa is actually bigger than St. Louis. Who knew?

I wonder how much the strike zone is going to grow/shrink tonight…
