Two more defendants joined Tony Taylor in agreeing to set up plea hearings in the dog fighting case that includes Falcons quarterback Michael Vick. Purnell Peace and Quanis L. Phillips are likely to plead guilty and in the process might divulge any information they have that pertains to Vick and these charges.
“There’s no telling until the actual pleas, but this doesn’t sound like good news for Michael Vick,” said Kent Alexander, once the U.S. Attorney in Atlanta and now Emory University’s general counsel. “Usually, if people plead guilty early in a case they may be cooperating with the government. That’s what it sounds like here.”
Well Mikey, it looks like you gave up your career and millions of dollars for a bunch of idiots that ended up punking you in the end anyway. I hope it was all worth it, because if you don’t go to jail, you’re certainly set to face a suspension from Roger Goodell and the Falcons’ brass have all but forgot your name.

Okay, so I was pretty high on the Eric Gagne to Red Sox trade a week ago, but I’m reporting back to eat a little crow.
In five appearances for Boston, GagMe has allowed seven earned runs for a super sized 15.75 ERA. Out of the 24 batters he’s faced, he’s allowed half of them to reach base, has cost the Red Sox two wins and could have cost them two more.
In hindsight, giving up three prospects for a once dominant closer just trying to survive on whatever skill he had left was a bad idea. Also in hindsight, I’m an idiot for thinking this was a good move, but maybe he’ll turn things around. Then again, Boston could have acquired Dennis Eckersley in his prime and it still might not have mattered. We’ve seen this too many times – the BoSox shrivel up like one of the Golden Girls, while the Yankees stay as hot as Jennifer Love Hewitt in Heartbreakers.
The Chiefs are getting close to signing their high profile running back Larry Johnson to a new contract extension, according the Kansas City Star. He might be signed as early as this week and even be able to be at least on the sidelines for the Chiefs’ game against the Dolphins this Thursday.
This is obviously encouraging news not only for the Chiefs, but those of us submerged in fantasy football. Although how many times have we seen a player holdout, miss some training camp time and then blow out his knee in one of the first weeks of the season? If he signs this week, he wouldn’t have missed that much time so it’s not much of a concern, but it’s still something to note.
Hopefully for Johnson, the Chiefs and most importantly *(tongue in cheek comment) fantasy owners, he gets his contract extension and goes on to have a productive year. He’s been outstanding for Kansas City and it’s high time they pony up and pay one of their key contributors.
– The Jets’ Thomas Jones limped off the field Monday during practice with an apparent calf or ankle injury. It doesn’t appear to be serious, however.
I watched Jones’ performance against the Falcons last Friday and I was very impressed. He hit the holes quickly and ran hard. Leon Washington is a sure bet to take away some of Jones’ touches, but it appears that Jones is going to be the Jets’ goal line back.
– Warrick Dunn participated in all of the Falcons’ drills Monday after recently having back surgery. He spent time with the second team, however, with Jerious Norwood getting first team carries.
Dunn still isn’t a solid fantasy pick this year, not by a long shot. He really slowed at the end of last year and his TD numbers have been awful the past three years, especially when Atlanta still had T.J. Duckett. Norwood might be worth a look as a third back, but I’d still throw caution to the wind. He’s lighting in a bottle and a threat to break a long run on every carry, but he’s still trying to get used to the Falcons’ new “power running game”.
– LenDale White is likely to start this Friday for the Titans after backing up Chris Brown last week.
White’s had an up and down offseason, first being overweight and then battling injuries. However, the Titans are dying for this kid to break out and he’d be a nice goal line threat with how hard he runs. This weekend would be a great time to see how Tennessee uses him if it gets near the end zone.
