Top 10 Worst MMA Nicknames

In one of their recent blogs, Cage Potato.com ranked the “Top 10 Worst MMA Nicknames Ever” and without question, they found some doozies.

#5 (tie): Brad “The Hillbilly Heartthrob” Imes, Eric “Ravishing Red” Schafer
If you reference your handsomeness in your nickname, not only are you a conceited douchebag, but you’re also neglecting your target audience. Do you know how many women watch MMA? Like, none. So who are you trying to seduce, exactly — that big lug on the other side of the cage? It’s very, very questionable, that’s all I’m saying. Bas “El Guapo” Rutten gets a pass because he’s Dutch and he chose a Spanish nickname, and whatever Bas does is aces in our book.

#3: Ron “H20Man” Waterman
Oh, for the love of God. As lame as this nickname is, you know that Waterman must have thought he was the cleverest dude on Earth when he came up with it. I’ve never seen Ron fight, but I can only assume that the announcer introduces him as “Ron, two molecules of Hydrogen reacting with one molecule of Oxygen Man, WATERmaaaaan!”

#2: Jorge “The Naked Man” Ortiz
This would be #1 if not for the fact that “The Naked Man” actually works from an intimidation standpoint. “Bill, good news, I got you a fight. It’s on March 25th against a greased-up nude Mexican. Three five-minute rounds, and…you there, Bill?”

The reference to Waterman thinking he was, “the cleverest dude on Earth” when he came up with the nickname is pretty funny.

Surprising Clippers atop the Pacific

Once news broke that Elton Brand would miss most of the season with an Achilles injury, everyone (including myself) pretty much wrote the Clippers off. But after four games, the team is undefeated and is sitting alone in first place in the Pacific division.

How is this happening?

Well, for one, Corey Maggette is fulfilling expectations, averaging 19.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists, while shooting 50% from long range. Chris Kaman is having a career year, posting 16.8 points, 16.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. I thought he’d step his game up, but I wasn’t expecting him to step it up like that.

Cuttino Mobley and Tim Thomas are both providing scoring – 18.3 and 16.0 ppg, respectively – while Sam Cassell is leading the team as only he can.

Lastly, the competition hasn’t been all that good. When removing the losses to the Clippers, their opponents are a combined 4-11. The Clippers visit Detroit tonight and host the Cavs on Sunday, so it will be quite the feat if they’re still perfect on Monday morning.

Georgia-Auburn best in the world?

Mark Bradley of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution wrote in his latest blog entry that the Georgia-Auburn series is the best in the South, if not in the entire world.

This will be my 20th Georgia-Auburn game, and I’ve come to believe this is the best series in the South if not the whole wide world. Alabama-Auburn? Too much hate. The World’s Largest Outdoor Whatever? Too much alcohol. Georgia-Auburn is pure football, home-and-home, with a chill in the air and invariably something on the line.

Best in the world, really? Better than Michigan-Ohio State, Oklahoma-Texas, Navy-Army and USC-Notre Dame? Better than Florida-Georgia, Alabama-Auburn and USC-UCLA? Now to be fair, Bradley never claims that Georgia-Auburn is the best rivalry; he simply states that it’s the best series, which essentially is the same thing in my eyes.

For my money, Michigan-OSU is the most heated rivalry, although it’s been incredibly lopsided since 2001. However, Navy-Army has to be the most respected rivalry in the nation with how much it means to both programs. It’s not about who has the best athletes or the better game plan – it’s about history, tradition and respect between two teams. It’s incredibly fun to watch and up until ’02, the games were usually pretty close throughout.

What’s your favorite college football rivalry?

10 Greatest Halftime Moments

Allballs.com (seriously, that’s the name of the site) ranked their version of the “10 Greatest Halftime Moments“, and some of them are absolutely hilarious. Included in the 10 was Ashlee Simpson being booed at the Orange Bowl a few years ago, as well as Janet Jackson’s “wardrobe malfunction”.

Their number one ranked moment absolutely takes the cake, however. The guy in the white shirt and black pants is priceless:

The guy in the crowd cupping his face in his hands at the end is hilarious!

Hot Pickups: 11/9

Give these guys a look if you need help at SG or SF:

Kelenna Azubuike, Warriors
Golden State has started the season 0-5, but it’s not Azubuike’s fault. He usurped Matt Barnes as the starting small forward and is averaging 18.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in 35 minutes per game. Moreover, he’s shooting 53% from the field and is knocking down 1.4 threes per game. He’s no slouch on defense, either, as he’s averaging 1.0 steal per game thus far this season.

Greg Buckner, Timberwolves
With Rashad McCants out with an ankle injury, Buckner took over starting off guard duties and posted 18 points, three rebounds and three assists in 39 minutes. Even though he came off the bench in the first two games, he has played at least 25 minutes and made two threes in every game this season.
