Message to Coach Matt Doherty of SMU: When you have your own Tip-Off tournament you are supposed to win it or at least get a split. This past weekend Texas Southen and Alabama State out of the SWAC came in an put double digit whoopings on the Mustangs. In this day and age of win now athletic directors I hope for Coach Doherty’s sake they have some patience…..
Does this count as two big wins for the SWAC?
The New York Post is reporting that Alex Rodriguez is heading back to the Yankees and will likely be guaranteed about $280 million over 10 years.
“After spending time with (wife) Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization.
Prior to entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees’ ownership. We know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and happiness.
As a result, I reached out to the Yankees through mutual friends and conveyed that message. I also understand that I had to respond to certain Yankees concerns, and I was receptive and understanding of that situation.
That’s a long cry away from where A-Rod was just over a year ago when fans and media seemed to be crushing his spirit. Maybe the money is actually second on A-Rod’s wish list and winning is first.
Nah, the money is still first. Who am I kidding?
Now that 11 weeks are in the books in college football, FOX Sports.com has posted its bowl projections. In its top projection, FOX has Oklahoma, not Oregon playing LSU in the national championship game.

Just like most pundits, FOX doesn’t believe Kansas will survive the rest of its schedule, seeing as how they have them playing Georgia in the Cotton Bowl and Mizzo in the Fiesta. With how good the Jayhawks’ offense is, I wouldn’t count them out but I understand why I’m in the minority with those thoughts. If Boise State and West Virginia meet in the Sugar Bowl, oddsmakers are going to have to set the over/under total around 200 I think. Ohio State vs. Virginia Tech would be an interesting defensive battle.
A couple of months ago, I called Isiah Thomas a stone cold idiot.
Now, it’s Stephon Marbury’s turn.
Just when you thought that Starbury was fitting in well with Isiah Thomas’ team, Knicks owner James Dolan sat down with Thomas to talk about reducing Marbury’s playing time. The Knicks then announced that Mardy Collins would start at point guard, and Marbury would come off the bench.
After being demoted, Marbury left the Knicks in Phoenix, claiming that he had permission to leave. He then claimed that he has dirt on his head coach:
“Isiah has to start me. I’ve got so much (stuff) on Isiah and he knows it. He thinks he can (get) me. But I’ll (get) him first. You have no idea what I know.”
Huh?
The Knicks fined Marbury more than $180 K for skipping the Suns game, prompting him to hop on a plane to meet the team in Los Angeles for tonight’s game against the Clippers, but one wonders if Thomas will welcome him back after threatening to go public with whatever dirt he has on his coach.
The Knicks would like to trade him, but his outrageous salary – he’s due to make $42 million over the next two seasons – makes that difficult. He may have more value after the season, when a team trying to slash payroll might find a one-year deal worth the trouble. The team could buy him out, which would make him a free agent. It’s not like Dolan doesn’t have the cash.
Not long ago, Isiah put his foot in his mouth when he said – unprompted, mind you – that it was more disrespectful for a white man to call a black woman a bitch than it was for a black man to use the same term. Now Marbury is trying to use the media to blackmail his coach into starting him.
What’s next?
Remember when Boston teams and their fans were underdogs? Well, not anymore. After winning two of the last four World Series and sporting a payroll that only the Yankees can match, the Red Sox are public enemy #1 in Shawn Griffin’s book. As for the Patriots and Bill Belichick? Yep, Shawn’s sick of them too.
Wow to say the least, Shawn didn’t hold back his feelings in his rant. Any thoughts Boston or non-Boston fans?
