      McNamee turns over evidence linking Clemens to enhancers

      Roger Clemens’ former trainer Brian McNamee has turned over physical evidence that will show that the former Cy Young winner used performance-enhancing drugs.

      “This is evidence the government has that we believe will corroborate Brian in every significant way,” said McNamee lawyer Earl Ward.

      McNamee’s attorneys would not discuss the details of the evidence, but according to a source close to the former Yankee strength and conditioning coach, McNamee gave the Justice Department’s BALCO investigators vials with traces of steroids and growth hormone, as well as blood-stained syringes and gauze pads that may contain the Rocket’s DNA.

      Justice Department officials have sent the evidence to a lab for testing, and if the materials do indeed contain traces of drugs and blood, prosecutors may attempt to get a court order for a DNA sample from Clemens.

      McNamee plans to discuss the evidence with the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform tomorrow, when he is interviewed by the panel’s attorneys in preparation for next Wednesday’s congressional hearing on the challenges Clemens has raised about the Mitchell Report.

      High school player duped in recruiting scandal

      Kevin Hart, a football player at Fernley High School in Nevada, claims someone calling himself Kevin Riley represented himself as a recruiter and offered bogus scholarships in order to dupe families into giving him money.

      (Deputy Dan) Lynch declined to say how much money the Hart family paid Riley, or how the purported recruiter kept in contact with Hart and Hodges.

      Hart said at the announcement ceremony Friday that he talked many times with Cal head coach Jeff Tedford and that “personal experience” led to his decision to choose the Golden Bears over Oregon.
      But it appears he and his family may have been misled.

      That’s bullshit. Here’s this young man about to empark on one of the greatest moments in his life and some con artist comes along and steals money from his family. This was supposed to be a great experience for Hart; instead he’ll look back at this situation and remember what a disaster it was. Hopefully police with nab this clown Riley.

      Update: Check that, Hart apparently made the whole story up. Now that’s bullshit.

      Top recruit Pryor to wait on announcement

      Despite saying he would make a decision today, Terrelle Pryor, the nation’s top high school football recruit, has decided not to make a commitment to any collegiate on National Signing Day.

      National Signing Day is the first day high school players can formally sign paperwork and declare their intent to enroll at a specific college, but players actually have until April 1 to make a final decision. And after not being able to come to a final decision between his top four schools, Pryor has opted to continue considering his options.

      Pryor’s decision should not come as a major shock to anyone who has been following his recruitment. In the days leading up to signing day, conflicting reports surfaced regarding his final intention. Some, like the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, wrote that he was “80 to 90 percent” sure he would.

      So Buckeye, Wolverine and Nittany Lion fans will have to wait. I applaud the kid for taking his time. This is a major decision and if he needs more time, than more time is what he should take.

      Shaq to the Suns? WTF?

      Pending a physical, the Heat have agreed to send Shaquille O’Neal to Phoenix for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks.

      Making a move for O’Neal appears on the surface to make little basketball or financial sense for the Suns. O’Neal’s arrival in Phoenix would undoubtedly prompt widespread skepticism about his ability to keep up in the Suns’ high-octane system. The two years and $40 million remaining on O’Neal’s contract after this season also clashes with the Suns’ recent pattern of trading away players (such as Kurt Thomas) and draft picks in attempt to reduce payroll and eventually drag themselves away from the NBA luxury-tax line of $67.875 million.

      The Suns, though, have been plagued by well-chronicled concerns about their chemistry for nearly two years, generally focusing on the occasional dissatisfaction voiced behind the scenes by either Marion or Amare Stoudemire. In the locker room as well as the front office, sources say, there are factions that have believed for some time that one of them would eventually have to be traded for the Suns to reach their full potential.

      Let’s see, you have the best record in the West and you were a bench-clearing suspension away from beating the Spurs in last year’s playoffs. And your plan is to send your second-best player (who is also your most versatile) to Miami for a slow, 35 year-old center with bad hips? Are you serious?

      I hate this deal for Phoenix. They are going to have to alter their attack to allow Shaq to keep up, unless the motivation of playing for a title again takes five years off of his game. Financially, this goes against everything the Suns have done in recent years to trim payroll. I honestly don’t know what they could be thinking. Sure, Shaq gives them some beef on the front line, but by trading away Marion, they are trading away their biggest advantage – speed.

      This deal is a no-brainer for Miami. Shawn Marion still has four or five All-Star caliber years left and Dwyane Wade now has a new running mate that can keep up. The Heat also get Marcus Banks, who played well for Minnesota before signing with the Suns.

      This is the most befuddling trade in recent memory. I picked the Suns to break through this season, but if this trade indeed goes through, I take it all back.

      On Tuesday, Roger Clemens spent more than five hours speaking to a congressional committee investigating the use of performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball. The Rocket denied ever using steroids.

      “I just want to thank the committee, the staff that I just met with,” Clemens said. “They were very courteous. It was great to be able to tell them what I’ve been saying all along — that I never used steroids or [human] growth hormone. I look forward to being here, I guess, in this room next week.”

      Clemens is innocent until proven guilty. As was Bubba Clinton when he said he did not have sexual relations with that woman…Miss Lewinksi.

      Just sayin’.
