      What’s wrong with Big Papi?

      ESPN.com wants to know what’s wrong with Boston Red Sox slugger David Oritz, who is hitting just .070 on the season.

      I love ESPN. Without fail, whenever a player or team is slumping, they run the “What’s wrong with…” segment. Big Papi isn’t 28-years old anymore and he’s battling a nagging knee injury. He’s going to turn things around and once he does, ESPN can run the “Which Big Papi is the real Big Papi – the Big Papi who started the season batting .070 or the Big Papi that is on a 34-54 tear?” segment.

      Providence Coaching Search

      The search for a new coach at Providence continues. With Travis Ford (UMass) pulling out a couple of names have come to the forefront. Kevin Willard (Iona) and Larry Shyatt (Florida). Willard is a former Pitino assistant, but has not proven himself as a head coach yet. There are two better candidates in his own league. Both Jimmy Patsos, who took a dead in the water Loyola to 3 straight winning seasons. The first timke that has happened since the early 80’s. Also, Fran McCaffrey who led Siena to the NCAA tournament this year.

      The stumbling block for these two candidates is their agent, Rob Ades. Ades was also Tim Welsh’s agent and from what I hear it didn’t end well. Seems like the Providence brass don’t want to deal with Ades again. That’s too bad for both Patsos and McCaffrey as they both would do a great job.

      All that being said, look for Karl Hobbs to sneak in. The head man at George Washington has experience in the Big East at UConn and is from Boston. Write it down.

      Brown Update:

      The Ivy League school is looking hard at Tim O’Shea from Ohio U. The former Rhode Island and BC assistant would be a steal.

      Meyshawn thinking about a comeback?

      This was in the Miami Herald Sunday:

      Although the Dolphins want to get younger, ESPN analyst and retired receiver Keyshawn Johnson, still mulling a comeback, said by phone, ”I’m pretty sure if I wanted to come to Miami, Bill Parcells would say OK.”

      Aren’t there any slow possession receivers left on the free agent market that the Dolphins could sign? You know, one’s that don’t yell at their quarterbacks on the sidelines and cry every time they’re not getting the ball?

      Why is Jim Rome so angry? One word: Assholia.

      The Serious Sports Network has stumbled upon a fascinating discovery about talking head Jim Rome and why he’s so angry all the time.

      “Mr. Rome has had some traumatic experience in his childhood involving sports,” Dr. Henrik Stilson, a leading psychological researcher, explained to SSNN. “This causes him to hate sports and those who excel in it. The better they are at sports, the more he hates them.”

      Rome has long been known for his intense dislike of athletes, even going so far as to provoke an attack from former Rams quarterback Jim Everett while taping an interview. Today, Rome regularly vents on his television program, Jim Rome is Burning.

      Rome’s case is not unique in medical history, though it is the first time it has been medically documented. Doctors have even named the condition after Rome.

      “We’re calling the condition assholia,” Dr. Stilson said. “Otherwise known as ‘asshole disease’. Some of the symptoms include unprovoked rage, the mocking of small errors, and stating the obvious in an angry way, usually delivered in a rambling monologue. Extreme cases are also marked by ridiculous attempts to look cool.”

      These are starting revelations.
