      Papelbon goes nuts-o on photographer

      After giving up a two-run home run to Mets’ backup catcher Omir Santos in New York’s 3-2 victory over Boston on Saturday night, Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon screamed and hurled a towel at a photographer trying to capture Papelbon’s utter failure.

      Papelbon screamed, “Don’t take my f- – -ing picture,” according to Causi, before throwing his towel at him.

      It should be noted: Papelbon missed Causi.

      “I guess he missed with two pitches that night,” Causi cracked.

      Papelbon then stormed off to a corner of the dugout, hiding from the lensmen working in the first-base photographers well.

      Causi contrasted Papelbon’s behavior with that of Yankee closer Mariano Rivera. The fotog recalled taking a picture of Rivera last month at Fenway Park just after the ace reliever blew a save against Boston.

      “He knew I was shooting him, and he didn’t say a word,” Causi said. “A true champion realizes you got to take the good with the bad.”

      Wow – Causi 1, Papelbon 0.

      I don’t know what’s worse, giving up a two-run home run to Omir freaking Santos or having a no-name photographer make you look like a massive chump in the newspaper.

      Boldin set to fire agent Rosenhaus

      With his contract talks reaching a stalemate with the Cardinals, receiver Anquan Boldin plans to fire agent Drew Rosenhaus.

      Rosenhaus, who represents more NFL players than any other agent, had tried pressuring the Cardinals into trading the 28-year-old receiver.

      “Regarding Anquan Boldin, let me say that I have great respect for him. I’m hopeful we can work this out and he can return to the Rosenhaus Sports family in the near future. We are proud to continue to represent his brother, D.J. Boldin,” Rosenhaus said in a statement to ESPN.com. “We would also like to take this opportunity to announce that we have signed Will Allen to a 2-year contract extension with the Dolphins worth $16.2 million. We are pleased to announce today that we have re-signed New Orleans Saints tight end Jeremy Shockey [to a representation agreement].”

      Boldin reached out to other agents in recent weeks, according to a source. He spoke with Kennard McGuire, CAA agents Tom Condon and Ben Dogra, and two of Fitzgerald’s agents, Eugene Parker and Paul Lawrence.

      Under NFLPA rules, a player must wait five days after firing his agent before hiring a new one.

      Boldin apparently didn’t like the way Rosenhaus was going about negotiations with the Cardinals, although it’s hardly the agent’s fault if a team doesn’t want to re-work a contract when the player still has two years remaining on the current one. Still, it’s interesting that Rosenhaus has lost a big client like Boldin. Normally, players are seeking Rosenhaus’ negotiation tactics, not firing him because of them.

      Gasol wants the ball

      Pau Gasol can’t understand why the Lakers aren’t utilizing their advantage inside to better effect.

      “I wish we would take more advantage of our height and the inside game, because it’s pretty effective. It’s unfortunate that we don’t recognize it enough,” Gasol said, according to the Daily News.

      “It’s frustrating because we lose games,” Gasol said, according to the report. “I don’t mind when we win, because the bottom line is, I want to win. But I feel like we have an advantage, and I’m effective, we should stay with what works and what’s effective and not get away from it. It just doesn’t make a lot of sense.”

      Gasol is shooting almost 63% in the series and should be getting the ball more. The Nuggets have been reluctant to double team, so if the Lakers start feeding him the ball and let him go to work, it will force Denver to adjust (or let him score efficiently). Derek Fisher has been awful from the perimeter, and Lamar Odom isn’t bringing much to the table, so the Lakers might as well go with what’s been working. After all, he is their second-best player.

      How good of a prospect is Ricky Rubio?

      In the mock drafts that I’ve seen, Spaniard Ricky Rubio is the consensus #2 or #3 pick in this year’s NBA Draft. I saw him play a couple of times in last summer’s Olympics and I thought that he would make a solid NBA point guard, but I didn’t see the same things that the scouts are apparently seeing. TrueHoop’s Henry Abbott wrote a nice piece about how much potential Rubio has, and how it needs to be cultivated, not rushed to market.

      At the lottery, everybody said the same admiring things about his feel for the game, handle, vision, leadership … but sometimes these ideas leap from mind to mind without ever touching ground. I found myself looking around the room and wondering: How much have you even seen Rubio play? What kind of vetting has he had?

      Ricky Rubio will turn 19 in October. He has missed all kinds of games with injuries. He has played his entire early career in Spain. Almost everyone who makes the big decisions for NBA teams lives in the U.S. He has not done draft workouts.

      That pretty much sums up my concerns about the kid.

      Woman claims she was raped at Jet player Kerry Rhodes’ home

      A woman is claiming that two men raped her at the home of Jets’ safety Kerry Rhodes, although Rhodes isn’t currently a suspected according to an article by the New York Post.

      New Jersey cops are investigating a woman’s claim that she was raped at the home of star Jets defensive back Kerry Rhodes after meeting him and another man at a Manhattan nightclub, The Post has learned.

      The woman, a Canadian tourist, told NYPD cops that two men raped her late Friday or early Saturday in Morristown, NJ, where the 26-year-old Jet safety has a town house, New York law-enforcement sources said.

      The woman told police that she had gone out Friday night with a female friend to a Manhattan nightclub, where they met two men, one of whom was Rhodes, the sources said. The woman did not know who Rhodes was at the time, but her girlfriend did, sources said.

      The woman said she left the club with Rhodes and the other man and went with them to a Morristown residence, according to the sources.

      There, she told cops, two men raped her, sources said.

      There doesn’t seem to be enough details here to complete the puzzle. If this woman left the club with Rhodes and another man, but was raped by two other men, where the hell did Rhodes go? Was there a party at Rhodes’ home and she just got lost in the mix? How does Rhodes go from taking her back to his house to disappearing while two other men allegedly rape a woman in his home?

      I’m not trying to suggest that Rhodes was involved, but something doesn’t add up here. I guess we’ll have to wait until more details are released to get the full story.
