Fantasy Fallout, Week 7: RBs

– Steven Jackson (23 carries, 134 yards) still hasn’t found the endzone, but he continues to rack up a ton of yards from scrimmage.

– LaDainian Tomlinson (23 carries, 71 yards) has a disappointing day against the Chiefs. He failed to score on several goal line carries.

– Steve Slaton (22 touches, 89 yards, 2 TD) starting to perform up to first round expectations.

– Frank Gore (15 touches, 47 yards) had a surprisingly quiet day against an inconsistent Texans defense.

– Ryan Grant (27 carries, 148 yards, TD) had his first big fantasy day of the season.

Fantasy Fallout, Week 7: WRs

– Reggie Wayne (7-81-1) left the game with a groin injury after a nice start. If he misses any time, Austin Collie (4-36-1) and Pierre Garcon (3-24) would get a boost.

– Vincent Jackson (5-142-1) is pretty much a must-start in most scoring formats.

– Dwayne Bowe (2-11-1) found the endzone, but otherwise had a quiet day against a sketchy Chargers secondary.

– The 49ers have a couple of good prospects in Josh Morgan (4-62) and Michael Crabtree (5-56).

– Andre Johnson (2-62) had one big catch but left the game with a chest injury. He’s not expected to miss any time.

Fantasy Fallout, Week 7: TEs

– Owen Daniels (7-123-1) continues to tear it up. He’s an every-week start.

– Vernon Davis (7-93-3) really started to get it going after Alex Smith entered the game.

– Jermichael Finley (1-16) injured his knee on his only catch, early in the first quarter. If he misses time, Donald Lee (3-39) becomes backup-caliber again.

– Jeremy Shockey (4-105) looks like his old self. His 66-yard catch and run was a thing of beauty.

Be sure to check back in a few minutes for the WR, RB and QB positions.

Angels crumble in the eighth, Yankees headed to World Series

Pettitte

Like it or not, the Yankees have won the pennant. The Angels trailed by a single run in the bottom of the eighth inning, but a pair of inexcusable errors subsequently killed their chances.

The sport’s top spenders finally cashed in with their first pennant in six years Sunday night, beating the Los Angeles Angels 5-2 in Game 6 of the AL championship series behind the savvy pitching of that old October pro, Andy Pettitte.

Pettitte set a postseason record for wins, Johnny Damon hit a two-run single and Mariano Rivera closed it out in familiar fashion with a six-out save as the Yankees won their 40th American League crown by vanquishing the Angels, a longtime nemesis.

Joba Chamberlain got two key outs and Girardi went to a well-rested Rivera in the eighth. He gave up a two-out RBI single to Vladimir Guerrero, making it 3-2, then retired Morales to end the inning.

A diving play by first baseman Mark Teixeira helped Rivera escape further damage.

It was the first earned run allowed at home by the 39-year-old Rivera in a postseason save situation. But the Yankees added two insurance runs in the eighth on a pair of Angels errors and Teixeira’s sacrifice fly.

Rivera finished up in the ninth for his record 37th postseason save, and the Yankees had their pennant.

In the end, experienced prevailed, as Andy Pettitte, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, and Mariano Rivera were all vital to the Yankees recent success. This was Pettitte’s 16th postseason win, breaking a tie with John Smoltz for the major league record. Pettitte had been 0-4 against the Angels over the last two regular seasons, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi kept his faith in the 37 year-old veteran.

Although CC Sabathia grabbed the ALCS MVP, Alex Rodriguez was undoubtedly the heart of the Yankees’ offense. In this postseason, Rodriguez is hitting .438 with five home runs and 12 RBIs.

Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia will get the start for their respective teams in Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday. Both are former AL Cy Young winners and pitching better than ever. This World Series will obviously get more attention than it did last year. The Phillies will try to repeat as champions against the thirsty Yankees. It feels more exciting than the Phillies vs. Rays, doesn’t it? I’m just as dejected as any baseball fan from California, but I’m still looking forward these games.

Johnson takes shot at Haley on Twitter

Chiefs’ running back Larry Johnson took a shot at Todd Haley on his Twitter account after Kansas City’s 37-7 loss to the Chargers on Sunday, criticizing his head coach for not having NFL playing experience.

Here’s the tweet:

My father played for the coach from “rememeber the titans”. Our coach played golf. My father played for redskins briefley. Our coach. Nuthn

Johnson’s father is Penn State’s defensive line coach and apparently he didn’t teach his son about spell check.

LJ was brutal on Sunday, just as he has been all season. He has 309 rushing yards on 116 carries and no touchdowns in seven games this year, but continues to get opportunities in the Chiefs’ offense. Despite his struggles, Haley has stuck by Johnson all season and for all his trouble, he gets criticized for not having any NFL experience.

Johnson entered training camp on his best behavior and hasn’t made waves until this point. But now it sounds like he’s trying to get himself traded again, although based on his brutal production maybe the Chiefs won’t trade him – they’ll just cut him.
