On Terrell Owens radio show, Tony Romo said that he was most likely going to sit out at least another week…Kellen Winslow has been suspended by the Browns for one game for his outburst which was directed at Cleveland management. He felt he was mistreated during the whole staph infection/swollen testicals incident. Look for Steve Heiden to have a decent day in Winslow’s absence…Larry Johnson is going to sit out (or be suspended) another week since he can’t seem to stop assaulting women in nightclubs. Kolby Smith got the start last week and Jamaal Charles also got some work…Matt Jones has reportedly been suspended for three games due to a violation of the substance abuse policy. This guy just can’t get out of his own way. He was actually putting together a nice season, and now this.

Suspended NFL quarterback Michael Vick plans to plead guilty to state dog-fighting charges in effort to get an early release from federal prison.
If the plea deal goes as planned, it would help Vick overcome several obstacles in his goal to return to professional football next year.
Vick’s attorneys filed papers in the Circuit Court seeking permission to let Vick plead guilty via video-conference call from the federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., where he is serving a two-year term for dog fighting.
The papers say that Vick needs to resolve his state charges before he can be eligible for entry into a halfway house. Vick’s scheduled release date is July 20 and the soonest he could enter a program is six months before that.
No court date has been set officially, but the Surry County Court next convenes on Nov. 5.
Surry County Commonwealth’s Attorney Gerald G. Poindexter has not been available for comment so far today.
ESPN News reported yesterday that Vick wants to play in the NFL next year and that he’s been “doing bench press” to stay in shape.
Well that must be comforting to any team that might want to sign him. I can hear a NFL general manager talking to his coach about the situation right now:
“Listen Coach, I know Mike has had some questionable off field hobbies, has been living in a halfway house the past six months, can’t read NFL defenses and couldn’t hit water if he threw a rock into the ocean. But once I heard he was repping 225 for 17 in the slammer, I was sold.”
Regular readers know that I hold a special grudge towards the NFL for selling exclusive rights to Sunday Ticket to DirecTV. Since I don’t have DirecTV (as I am without access to a southern horizon), every Sunday I have to pack up my laptop and head over to my buddy Dan’s house to watch my beloved Packers play. While it’s nice to see Dan every Sunday, I would sure like to watch the games at home on my 96″ front projection system. (Yeah, I’m bragging a little. Sue me.)
This season, Dan bought the SuperFan package, which gives him all the games in HD. It also gives him the Red Zone Channel (that bounces around from game to game in an attempt to show viewers as many scores/big plays as possible) and the Game Mix Channel (which shows eight games at once).
The Red Zone Channel is pretty good as is. It’s especially fun when the Packers don’t play in the early game, because I don’t have to keep checking in on that game and we can let the channel take us to all the exciting moments around the league. However, I would make two changes: 1) when the channel goes to split screen mode, they waste valuable space with a wide red border around both games, and 2) during the late games, too often the channel is showing highlights when there is live action going on.
Then there’s the Game Mix Channel. This is a great idea that is poorly executed. Just take a look at a screenshot.
Looks like a football fan’s dream, right?
Well…sort of.
Even on a 50” screen, which I’d say is the standard for higher-end TVs these days, each of those games are only 12.5” diagonal, which makes them pretty tough to watch. Instead of the current 4 x 2 grid (four games wide by two games tall), why doesn’t the channel go with a 3 x 3 matrix? Not only would it allow for eight 16.5” screens (which would be 32% bigger than the current setup), it would generate a 9th rectangle, where the channel could show the Red Zone Channel, display advertisements, list stats and/or injuries, show times of upcoming games, etc.
What would they have to sacrifice? Well, just the blue border and channel banner, which currently take up a third of the screen.
That seems like a small price to pay for a 32% increase in viewing space for each game.
So, are you listening, DirecTV?
For those of you who sat through the Patriots’ 41-7 massacre of the Broncos on Monday night, you may have witnessed a man on a mission.
This man is out to prove a point. This man wants doubters to eat their words. This man wants to destroy everything and everyone in his path, including those he refers to as friends.
That man is none other than Bill Belichick.
No doubt pissed off at not only his team’s effort in a nationally televised beat down in San Diego on Sunday Night Football two weeks ago, but also everyone who has said anything even remotely negative about him or the Patriots, Belichick decided to personally destroy Mike Shanahan (a so-called friend) and the Broncos on Monday night.
At one point during the game, New England had a comfortable 34-7 fourth quarter lead, but apparently that wasn’t enough for Belichick. So he instructed Matt Cassel to run the no-huddle just to stick it to anyone that has deemed the Pats dead without Tom Brady. New England eventually capped the rout with a go-F-yourself-world-touchdown with less than five minutes remaining to go up 41-7.
Now, I have no problem with Belichick running the no-huddle. And if Shanahan or the Broncos players had an issue with it, than maybe they should learn to freaking tackle somebody instead of trying to play touch football with their opponents.
But it’s laughable that the ESPN announcers suggested that Belichick just wanted to get Cassel more experience running the no-huddle. That might have been true on the surface, but deep down the real reason Belichick did it is because he wants everyone to know that the Patriots are still here. They’re not going anywhere and they’re still one of the elite teams in the AFC – even without Brady.
Bill Belichick is on a mission again folks, and the Denver Broncos were just the first victim. Hide the women and children.
