According the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Falcons quarterback Michael Vick finally decided to accept a plead agreement in the charges of illegal gambling and dog fighting.

“Mr. Vick has agreed to enter a plea of guilty to these charges and to accept full responsibility for those actions and for the mistakes he has made. Michael wishes to apologize to everyone who has been hurt by this matter. The legal team and Mr. Vick will appear in Court in Richmond on Aug. 27.”

My only question – and Da Bear mentioned it in the comments section of another post – is why did Vick get the opportunity to do this today? Didn’t he have a strict 9 p.m. deadline on Friday? Or is something like that only strict if a non-celebrity was involved?

Either way, this was the right decision. And after all the boneheaded, idiotic, insensitive things Vick has done over the past couple months and years, at least he finally fesses up to something everyone already knew he did. There are no winners in this whole ugly mess, but at least this a-hole didn’t drag it out any further when he knew he was guilty.

It’s going to be interesting to see what the actual plea agreement entails and how much jail time he sees.

As if federal charges for illegal gambling and dog fighting weren’t enough, Michael Vick was cited for not wearing a seat belt during a routine traffic stop in Virginia over the weekend. The original reason he was pulled over, however, was because the tint on his windows was too dark.

Forget the tint on the windows – teenagers get pulled over hourly for that – but not wearing a seat belt when you’re already a marked man is extremely smart. Writing about something like this is nitpicking at this point I know, but it’s the same stupidity that already has gotten this fool into the current trouble he’s facing.

It’s like Pacman riding around without registration and insurance in, no less, a bright orange Lamborghini, which by the way didn’t have the right plates.

So I foolishly wasted almost an entire day waiting to see if Michael Vick would take a plea agreement for charges stemming from illegal gambling and dog fighting. Annnnddd I’m still waiting…

Apparently Vick is still weighing his options. What options he’s weighing, I have no idea, but he continues to dig a deeper hole (no insensitive pun intended) for himself. One of his co-defendants has already stated that Vick, “helped drown dogs” and I’m sure more specific information is ready to come out. Three out of the four co-defendants have taken plea deals and admitted guilt, so what Vick is waiting for I have no clue.

If he fights this I hope they lock him up for longer than five years, which is now possible, by the way, with the state of Virginia set to proceed with their own charges. If you’re insensitive to fight and kill dogs, and then even dumb enough not take a lesser sentence when one’s on the table, you deserve the worst punishment prosecutors can hand out. And actually, you deserve the worst punishment that can be doled out, just for being insensitive enough to fight and kill the dogs.
