Iowa took some real grief this past week from guys like Colin Cowherd, but frankly it was well-deserved. The Iowa Hawkeyes can’t say much here – they need to start scheduling real nonconference opponents. Until they do they’ll get little respect.

It’s interesting to hear a great coach like Urban Meyer explain the intangibles needed when you’re looking for a college quarterback. Arm talent just isn’t as high on the list, and that makes sense also given the type of offense he runs.
Of course that has to change a bit in the NFL. The intangibles are just as if not more important, but the arm talent and physical skills are more important given the level of competition.
Do they look happy? Not really . . .
Iowa fans took a lot of grief last year as they tried to defend their undefeated team against all the critics, and then had to watch the Hawkeyes get demolished in the Rose Bowl against Stanford.
Today things got even worse as 13th-ranked Iowa lost 23-20 against FCS power North Dakota State.

We’ve heard the SEC hype for years, and now after all the smack talk, fans of the conference have to take their medicine.
Ole Miss came out strong, but then utterly wilted in the second half against a resilient Florida State team.
That capped a miserable weekend for the SEC, even with Alabama’s destruction of USC.
Looking back, an analyst on ESPN subbing for Mike & Mike (I can’t remember his name) summed up the SEC’s run pretty nicely when he pointed out that most of the success comes down to two all-time great coaches – Nick Saben and Urban Meyer. Outside of that, what can SEC fans really point to?
If you’re a Georgia, Tennessee Ole Miss fan, can you really pump your chest about the SEC when your team hasn’t won a title? Does it really make you feel good to pump your chest when the Alabama team that regularly crushes you is carrying the SEC banner?
It’s always nice to see an injured player return to full strength, and Nick Chubb made a statement on Saturday that he’s back to terrorize college football defenses. Kirby Smart wasn’t shy about using him, as Chubb carried the ball 32 times for 222 yards as Georgia got past North Carolina in a pretty good football game.
Chubb instantly becomes a serious Heisman candidate with this performance, and it gives new head coach Smart a stabilizing force on offense.
