Quaterback Marcus Vick has been kicked off the Virginia Tech football team after he stomped on the left calf of Louisville All-American defensive end Elvis Dumervil during the Jan. 2 Gator Bowl. The school also cited Vick’s numerous legal troubles as justification for their decision.

I like this move. Vick’s actions during the bowl game deserved serious punichment. If this had been an isolated incident, something less severe would have been warrented. But Vick has had too many problems and that sealed his fate.

He’llprobably make himself available for the NFL draft, but I wouldn’t consider drafting him. Just like his brother, he’s more of a runner than a passer, and his brother is much more talented. I don’t see this guy starting at quaterback in the NFL (unless he’s on a really bad team).

Wow. Vince Young’s performance tonight will go down as one the greatest in college football history. Young was 30 for 40 with 267 yards passing and delivered an incredible 200 yards rushing on 19 carries with three rushing touchdowns. Trailing by 12 points late in the fourth quarter, Young took over the game and let his team to victory, capping off his amazing performance with an 8-yard touchdown run on fourth down with 19 seconds left to play.

Matt Leinart played a great game, and the USC offense was unstoppable in the second half, but Texas got a huge stop on fourth down with a little over two minutes left to set the stage for Vince Young’s heroics.

I’ve said all year that Vince Young was the best player in the country and the he deserved the Heisman Trophy, and he proved that tonight. I have no idea how well he’ll do in the pros, but he’s one of the best college quarterbacks I’ve ever seen. He’s 6′ 5″ and he can beat you with his arm and his legs. Reggie Bush is an incredible talent, but he didn’t have his best game tonight. His turnover in the first half cost the Trojans, and the Texas defense was able to keep him in check. We also saw again how USC relies on LenDale White to handle the tough carries. Bush has the luxury of getting open field touches while White does the dirty work. Young, on the other hand, carried the entire Texas team on his back.

Finally, Mack Brown deserves this win. He’s a class act and he had to listen to everyone say he couldn’t win the big one. Well, he finally won it. Congratulations.

The Ohio State defense has done it again, shutting down Notre Dame’s high-powered offense in a 34-20 victory in the Fiesta Bowl. All season Brady Quinn and the Fighting Irish looked unstoppable on offense, but things changed once the faced a tough, physical and fast defense led by A. J. Hawk.

The performance of the Buckeye defense reminded me of their performance against the Miami Hurricanes on the 2003 Fiesta Bowl. Everyone thought Miami’s offense couldn’t be stopped. After the game everyone realized that Miami just hadn’t been tested by a real defense.

That’s the real story of the Rose Bowl coming up Wednesday night. USC has an incredible offense, but they play in the pass-happy Pac-10 where nobody plays real defense. Will they look the same against the tough Texas defense?

Texas has a great offense as well led by the amazing Vince Young, even if it’s not as dominating as the Trojan offense. It might not need to be, since USC’s defense is average at best.

So let’s see how good the Trojan offense really is now that they’re facing a real defense.

Unbelievable. The officials were already having a terrible day in the Iowa/Florida game, but the off-sides call at the end of the game was so bad that you have to wonder what’s going on down there. Chris Spielman was announcing the game and was critical of many of the calls that went against Iowa. One call at the end of the half led to a Florida touchdown. After Iowa rallied to get within 7 points with a little over a minute left, they recovered an onside kick, only to have it over-ruled by a pathetic off-sides call.

After the fiasco in the Michigan/Nebraska game and the blown calls in this game, the NCAA needs to take a look at the idiots marquerading as officials in these bowl games.
