Couch Potato Alert (12/8)

There are several good matchups in the NFL this weekend, highlighted by the Cowboys/Saints tilt (the BE Game of the Week) brought to us by flex scheduling. That begs the question – why doesn’t the NBA adopt flex scheduling? I’d much rather see the Clippers/Spurs game than the Wizards/Sixers tonight.

If you need a college football fix, the Division I semifinals are today and tomorrow on ESPN2 and ESPN, respectively. Yeah, they actually have a playoff system in Division I football. Pretty weird, eh?

In college hoops, there are three Top 25 matchups, but the biggest game features #6 Texas A&M against #1 UCLA in the John Wooden Classic in Anaheim, CA. Unbelievably, the other game of the Classic (USC/George Washington) will be broadcast in HD, but the UCLA/A&M game will not. Get your act together, CBS!

Couch Potato Alert (12/4)

Tuesday night is a good one for college hoops with the Jimmy V Classic and the Texas A&M/LSU battle. On Thursday, the Detroit/Dallas tilt is the highlight of the week’s NBA action.

College Hoops: Eye on the scoreboard

College football ruled the day, but there were some good games in college hoops as well…

Kentucky 63 @ (6) North Carolina 75
(21) Gonzaga 87 vs. (25) Texas 77
Illinois 72 vs. (16) Arizona 84
(23) Georgetown 52 @ (10) Duke 61
(22) Wichita State 64 @ (14) Syracuse 61
(5) Kansas 57 @ DePaul 64
North Dakota State 64 vs. (8) Marquette 60

The big shockers were #5 Kansas losing to unranked DePaul and #8 Marquette losing to North Dakota State. NDSU beat the Badgers on their home court last season. The team is in its third season at the Division I level. Duke overcame a seven-point halftime deficit to put away a wily Georgetown team. Greg Paulus had a nice second half after struggling much of the season. I’m officially worried about Josh McRoberts. It doesn’t seem like he’s improved much since last season.

Couch Potato Alert (12/1)

It’s conference championship weekend, so there are four Top 25 matchups in college football, including the BE College Game of the Week – Florida/Arkansas. The NFL schedule is light on quality matchups, but the BE NFL Game of the Week – Giants/Cowboys – and the Seahawks/Broncos tilt are very important games. College basketball is in full swing, and if you aren’t paying attention, you’re missing some great games. There are three Top 25 matchups on Saturday, including the Gonzaga/Texas battle on ESPN. It should be a good weekend for sports.

#6 UNC topples #1 OSU

#1 ranked Ohio State jumped out to an early lead, but the Tar Heels fought back and took control in the second half, finally putting the Buckeyes away, 98-89. The game was part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, which pits teams from the two conferences against one another.

OSU was without 7’1″ freshman phenom Greg Oden, who should be ready to play in a few weeks. During the game, there were several shots of him sitting on the Buckeye bench, and I have to say that for an 18 year-old, he looks like he’s about 30. Regardless, when the team works him into the lineup, they are going to be tough to beat.
