Tiger’s much awaited comeback

Tiger will be making his anticipated return to the links this weekend for the U.S Open after a nine-week hiatus due to the death of his father, Earl. It’s going to be a tough weekend for Woods considering he will be celebrating his first Father’s Day without his father. However, now that Tiger has had time to relax, spend time with those close to him, and re-focus, he may come back stronger than ever.

Tiger’s father was his rock and taught him everything he needed to know about the game of golf. Tiger is a pretty built individual physically, but may be much stronger between the ears. One of his greatest qualities is his mental toughness and that is definitely going to come into play in this weekend’s U.S Open. Before and after every shot Tiger will probably be spiritually talking things over with his dad. His father has been his mentor all his life and will undoubtedly be guiding him this weekend. Tiger could have returned to play in golf tournaments much earlier but chose to sit out until he was completely ready. Will his father’s divine presence carry him to his third U.S Open victory?

Tiger will be teeing off at 1:25 pm Thursday and 7:55 am Friday.

Grimsley admits drug use, problems for baseball just beginning

When it finally seemed like the whole steroid firestorm in major league baseball was starting to simmer, news broke that Diamondbacks reliever Jason Grimsley admitted to using performance-enhancers, including HGH, steroids, and amphetamines. Grimsley asked for his release from the club after federal agents searched his home as part of a drug investigation.

In court documents, Grimsley gave names of several other major league players who he said either use performance-enhancers or have been suppliers of drugs. Though the names were blacked out, Grimsley’s confession will undoudtedly open up a bad can of worms for major league baseball. Sooner or later those unidentified names will be recovered and the league will be in a world of hurt. It should get extremely interesting now that someone finally admitted to using HGH. Grimsley ratting out other players in this mess says that the substance obviously is prevalent in major league baseball. However, since baseball has no test for HGH, it’s apparent more players will elect to use the drug. As the investigation continues, a severe domino effect may be awaiting major league baseball. Are there any big name players on Grimsley’s list and, if so, the ramifications for the league may worse than they had ever thought.

Owens thrilled with new team, coach

Terrell Owens had his first workout with his new team and new coach Friday and was happy as can be.

“I’m here with a great coach, a great team, a great owner,” Owens said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity that I can make to help this team win. That’s why they brought me in here.”

I’ve heard this all before. T.O got run out of San Fran and said the same things his first days with the Eagles. He and Donovan McNabb were supposed to be the dynamic duo Philly had been missing and the combo would lead them to a Super Bowl championship. While they did make it to the big game, the journey was not without controversy and bumps along the road, mostly caused by Owens himself.

He now begins his new journey with Bill Parcells and the Cowboys. It’s still in the honeymoon stage now where everyone is saying the right things. All seems well in Big D. Until, that is, the first moment things go slightly wrong. T.O is putting on a good face now, but what happens if the Cowboys go on a losing streak during the season? Or what if Owens goes a game only catching a few passes? If T.O feels like he’s not getting enough balls thrown his way, you know he’s going to open his mouth and say something. There will be undoubtedly be a point during the season when T.O will be unhappy because that’s the way he is. He’s shown arrogant and selfish behavior everyone he’s been so why think this season will be any different. So the question remains not IF he blows up but WHEN.

King picks Cowboys and Pats for SB XLI

Sports Illustrated columnist Peter King picks the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys for his Super Bowl matchup for the upcoming season. The Cowboys could be extremely dangerous with the addition of the ever so entertaining and egotistical Terrell Owens. It finally gives them a weapon at wide receiver and could put them over the top in the NFC. But will it work? Owens has never played for a coach like Bill Parcells but he may be just the kind of hard-nosed coach that can keep T.O in line.

The Patriots are the Patriots and always have a great chance to be Super Bowl contenders every season. Another team that should be considered one of the favorites is the Indianapolis Colts. They’ve had high expectations the past few seasons and many people thought they were going to get it done last year but they fell short in the playoffs. Perhaps they finally will learn from past playoff appearances and put it all together for a Super Bowl run next season.

Sox taking over Chicago

Last weekend’s brawl between the White Sox and Cubs showed a complete lack of class by Michael Barret and the rest of the Cubs but also brings to light another development. The lovable Cubbies may not be so anymore and it’s the boys on the South Side that are starting to rule the city. It has always been a Cubs town but with the recent success of the White Sox, the tides could be starting to turn. Not only are the Sox winning, fans seem to be gravitating towards the aggressive, intense attitude Ozzie Guillen has instilled in his ballclub. Meanwhile, Cubs players continue to get injured and as a result, their team’s season becomes an adventure. Once again, the lovable losers are several games below the .500 mark and are in fifth place in their division.

Michael Barrett’s punch to the face of A.J Pierzynski illustrated the pinnacle of the Cubs’ frustrations. The White Sox catcher walked off the field to a standing ovation from the U.S Cellular crowd. As Guillen stated after the game, the brawl would bring the club closer together. The Cubs have never had to worry about their fan support. They sell out every game in Wrigleyville no matter what the team’s record is. But now come the surging South Siders and if the Cubs are not careful, the White Sox could officially overtake them and become the fan favorites in Chicago.
