Pacman allowed to workout with Titans? Thank God.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is debating whether or not to allow cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones to workout at Titans’ training camp later this month. A decision should be announced by the end of the week.

The commissioner apparently will weigh at least two elements before making a ruling. One involves whether Jones violated terms of his suspension when he was identified by Atlanta police as being part of a group that was involved in a shooting outside a strip club on June 18. Jones is not a suspect in the shooting.

This may sound ridiculous for Goodell to even consider, I mean, Pacman was suspended for the entire season, so why should he have the right to workout with the team, right? Wrong. If he’s in practice it means he’s spending more time doing something productive for once instead out at a club “making it rain” and punching strippers. I’m all for the idea of keeping this a-hole off the streets as much as humanly possible.

NCAA playing with our playoff emotions again

College football officials are discussing implementing a playoff system that would create both a semi-finals round, as well as a championship title match, or a final four tournament if you will.

Sources in several conference offices, athletic directors and television networks told The Post that support is steadily growing for a “Plus-1,” format in which there will be a national championship game following the playing of two “semifinal games.”

The first title game could be played in 2011.

Whoa, 2011? Slow down there fellas – don’t you want to take a little more time to figure out if this would be best for the game? I mean, college football fans have only been clamoring for a playoff system since before dinosaurs walked the earth, now you’re saying we could have one in place no later than four years from now? I think my head is spinning with excitement.

It took these bastards forever just to implement a championship game, now they’re finally talking about improving the system and they’re only going to a “Plus-1” format? If it’s going to take until 2011 just to do a four-team playoff tournament, why don’t you take the four years and figure out how to implement a full-scale eight to sixteen team system? At this rate, college football will finally have a full playoff system no later than 2067.

Tommie Harris just became a rich man

The Detroit Lions re-signed franchise defensive tackle Cory Redding to a seven-year, $49 million contract on Monday. The deal also includes $16 million in guaranteed money and makes Redding the highest paid defensive tackle in the NFL.

Redding is coming off a fantastic season with eight sacks, but the way the league is set up right now regarding free agent contracts is absolutely nuts.

Somewhere Tommie Harris has a huge smile on his face. The Bears want to extend Harris’ contract before the regular season kicks off, but if Redding’s deal is any indication, they’ll have to pony up big.

Barry in a slump or is this the end?

In case you haven’t noticed, San Francisco Giants outfielder Barry Lamar Bonds hasn’t been himself lately. In his last seven games, Bonds is 1 for 22 with no long balls and eight walks. He went 0 for 5 in the Giants’ 5-3 loss to the Dodgers Sunday and in the process left six men on base. He was so happy with himself, he said this following the game:

“Yeah, it’s an embarrassment for me to be wearing this f — uniform because of the way I’m playing,” Bonds said Sunday. “Now go away.”

One could say that’s typical Bonds, but it actually isn’t. While the, “Now go away” part is classic Bonds, the outburst on a whole isn’t normally cocky/confident Barry’s style. Anyone who has witnessed Bonds bat more than a handful of times this year, has definitely seen a different player than the one we’ve all been accustomed to. He takes pitches belt high and right down the pipe, is less disciplined with two strikes and his timing has been way off. Is this just a slump or has the game finally caught up to and passed the 42 year old?

Way to go Fightin’ Phils!

I don’t know, is it me or is it just too appropriate that the first professional sports franchise to lose 10,000 games hails from Philadelphia? Congratulations to the Philadelphia Phillies and the city of the boo, for losing their 10,000 game last night to the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.

I know this happened at an Eagle game, but serves you right for throwing snowballs at Santa Claus you bums!
