Tony Parker, you stud

SPORTSbyBROOKS.com has learned through X17ONLINE that Spurs’ point guard Tony Parker has three loves in his life: basketball, lovely wife Eva Longoria, and some hot model named Alexandra Paressant…and not necessarily in that order.

Paressant, who has also been with soccer player Ronaldinho, claims she boinked Tony Parker for a couple months “AFTER Eva and Tony’s big wedding — in fact, Alex and Tony MET AT EVA AND TONY’S WEDDING!!!”

X17online also supposedly has “samples of what she says are text messages with Tony exchanged at the end of September, just after the two slept together, Alex claims, at the Park Hyatt (where Eva and Tony and their wedding party stayed!).”

Some guys just have all the fun. Paressant must have been smitten with Parker’s rapping abilities:

Blank to Vick: Lay off the fried chicken

Here’s a clip from ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” telecast of Falcons owner Arthur Blank talking about the possibility of Michael Vick returning to the team. Some are suggesting that what he said was racist.

Fuzzy Zoeller on Tiger Woods: “That little boy is driving well and he’s putting well. He’s doing everything it takes to win. So, you know what you guys do when he gets in here? You pat him on the back and say congratulations and enjoy it and tell him not to serve fried chicken next year. Got it?” Zoeller then smiled, snapped his fingers, and walked away before turning and added, “or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve.”

Arthur Blank on Michael Vick: “…if he doesn’t watch himself and eat a lot of friend chicken and fries in prison and come out 215 pounds, he’s not going to be the same athlete.”

Are we serious here? Keeping in mind the entire context of Blank’s comments, there’s little to suggest that he was trying to be racist. Unlike Zoeller, he didn’t specifically try to attribute certain foods to Vick’s skin color. Should he have gone with pizza and fries? Probably, but suggesting he’s racist is a bit much, especially when you consider what Zoeller said about Woods. This is being way overblown.

Petrino quits on Falcons

Just 11 months after agreeing to become the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, Bobby Petrino decided enough was enough. Petrino resigned in Atlanta Tuesday and immediately will become the new head coach at the University of Arkansas.

Petrino’s departure came after he claimed several times that he would return with the Falcons next season. He was introduced as Arkansas’ new coach in a late-night press conference in Fayetteville, Ark. He even did the school’s “Woo Pig Souey” chant – complete with cheerleaders – after his opening remarks.

There comes a time in life when a man has to do what he has to do. And there comes a time in life when a man has to do what he has to do for his family. Obviously Petrino thought what was best for him and his family was to return to the collegiate ranks. However, there’s also a time when a man has to honor a commitment, too. He lied to Louisville a few years ago about wanting to stay put, all the while talking to LSU about their opening once Nick Saban left for the Dolphins. He also lied to Louisville again when he accepted the Falcon job. And now he lied to the Falcons and probably will do it to Arkansas as soon as he has a chance…He did the “Woo Pig Souey” hours after leaving the entire Atlanta organization in the dust? I’m surprised he can even look at himself in the mirror.

Sorry to say, but the Falcons and Arthur Blank got what they deserved. They knew Petrino had lied to teams before and still went through with the hire. With that said, this is also the second time this year that Blank was stabbed in the back by someone he deeply trusted (Michael Vick being the first person, of course). With how much the Falcon players seemed to despise Petrino’s coaching style, maybe this is a blessing in disguise. Nevertheless, Blank and the Falcons badly need to land a loyal, hard-working figure to right this sinking ship. Off the top of my head, Bill Cowher would be great, but who knows if he would want to come out of retirement to clean up that mess. Although they’ll probably look for someone with more coaching experience, I think Mike Singletary would be a guy the players would play hard for and rally around.

Twins, Sox still talking Santana

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the sticking point in the Red Sox acquiring ace Johan Santana seems to be whether or not they’d be willing to give up young centerfielder Jacoby Ellsbury.

While no deal appeared imminent, there were indications that in their talks with the Red Sox, the Twins were focused on a package headlined by center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury.
The Red Sox have offered Ellsbury and pitcher Jon Lester in separate deals, while refusing to include both in the same offer.

Of those two options, the Twins were said to be leaning toward a package of Ellsbury, infield prospect Jed Lowrie and relief prospect Justin Masterson, with the sides haggling over a fourth player.

If Boston winds up caving and includes Ellsbury and/or Lester for Santana, aren’t they mortgaging their future a bit assuming they’d have to give up multiple young prospects (including at least one major league-ready prospect)? At the trade deadline last year, they gave up a promising starter in Kason Gabbard for Eric Gagne (what a sweet deal that turned out to be) and now might have to part with Lester, too. I’m certainly not comparing Gagne to Santana, but Curt Shilling and Tim Wakefield aren’t going to pitch forever and the Sox are going to need some young guns down the road.

Miles still in the picture for Michigan

Just over a week ago, LSU’s Les Miles debunked an ESPN report about him becoming Michigan’s next head coach. While the report might have been made erroneously, it might not have been totally inaccurate, either. Apparently Miles is still very much in the picture to become Michigan’s next head coach.

Miles had a phone conversation Friday morning with Michigan athletic director Bill Martin and school president Mary Sue Coleman, according to several people with knowledge of the call.

Michigan received permission Nov. 28 from LSU athletic director Skip Bertman to speak with Miles, as long as it was after the Dec. 1 SEC championship game. So asking LSU again for permission was not an issue; U-M is believed to have initiated Friday’s call.

Bertman said Monday night he didn’t know if Miles had had contact with Michigan. But he said he doubted anyone could sway Miles to leave LSU.

“He and Bo Schembechler were real close,” Bertman said. “If Bo Schembechler were alive, I doubt he could have got him to go to Michigan. It’s hard for people who don’t live in the South to understand.”

While there might be truth to Bertman’s comments, the fact of the matter is that college coaches have a tendency to lie. The sticking point with this situation, however, is that Miles signed a two-year extension with LSU just last week. Although hey, breaking commitments hasn’t stopped college coaches before – just ask Nick Saban and Bobby Petrino.
