Let the game begin

Well the bowl season concludes tonight with the BCS National Championship Game. After the past couple of weeks, I’m just praying for a decent bowl game. I watched the Tulsa-Bowling Green game last night (Tulsa won 63-7 by the way) and I don’t want college football to wind down the season with another freaking blowout.

Succumbing to all the pre-game hype, here are a couple of feature articles from various Internet sites about the game: ESPN.com gives 10 reasons why each team could win tonight…FOX Sports.com breaks down the position matchups…Cory McCartney of SI.com gives five reasons why OSU will win…The USA Today writes about what all-purpose player Jacob Hester means to LSU…MSNBC.com chronicles how different Tigers’ head coach Les Miles is from Buckeyes’ head man Jim Tressel…And some nobody chooses LSU to win 20-13…

All right, we’re taking it up a notch!

Roger Clemens filed a defamation suit against his former trainer, Brian McNamee, who has claimed to have injected the Rocket with performance-enhancing drugs.

Clemens’s defamation suit was filed Sunday in Harris County, Tex., the same day an interview with Clemens aired on the CBS program “60 Minutes” in which Clemens denied ever using steroids or human growth hormone. The suit alleges that McNamee was pressured by federal prosecutors to provide information to Mitchell’s investigators after he initially said Clemens had never used banned substances. The suit lists 15 statements McNamee made to Mitchell that the suit contends are “untrue and defamatory.”

Is anyone else reminded of the Seinfield episode where George keeps lying about renting a place in the Hamptons so that he can get out of visiting Susan’s (his deceased ex-girlfriend) parents? George tells a lie and then has to keep telling lies in order to cover up the previous lie.

Everything points to Clemens lying. Yet, like George when he actually drove Susan’s parents up to the Hamptons even though he had no place there, Clemens is doing whatever he can to try to prove his innocence. If he truly is telling the truth about not taking roids, then he should go to great lengths to prove his innocence. But if he’s just doing whatever he can to cover up his original lie, then he’s going to have a similar fate as one George Costanza. It’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Power shakes making Brady Quinn dumb?

File this post under the pointless category, I know, but does anybody else think that Brady Quinn says, “Now I’m dumb” in this EAS commercial?

I realize the actual line is, “Now I’m done.” But every time I see this commercial I think the young lad is saying those shakes are making him dumb.

Oh J.P. Losman, you’re so funny

J.P. Losman wants out of Buffalo. Actually, he not only wants out of Buffalo – he’s demanding it.

Losman is unhappy with how he lost his starting job to rookie Trent Edwards this past season, and wants out of Buffalo, the Associated Press reports. Losman’s agent said Friday that his client would prefer to be traded, but added Losman would play out the final year of his contract if necessary.

Don’t you have to be at least a little good to demand a trade? The best thing about Losman is that he truly believes he’s a good quarterback. Any team that packages more than a ham sandwich, a gum wrapper and a pair of round scissors to acquire this guy deserves to go 3-13 for the foreseeable future.
