The Seattle Supersonics managed to keep Chris Wilcox, signing the talented forward/center to a three-year contract worth $24 M. Wilcox averaged 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds after joining the team prior to the trade deadline, highlighted by a spectacular 26 point/24 rebound performance against the Houston Rockets.
This is a nice signing by both parties. A longer deal would have been better for the Sonics, but the shorter deal gives them an out in case his late season play was an aberration. Wilcox is only 23, so it makes sense that he would sign a shorter deal in the hopes of signing a bigger contract in three years.
