Packers wide receiver Donald Driver skipped the team’s OTA session on Thursday, apparently because he’s unhappy about his contract.
Receiver Donald Driver also skipped the OTA session, and the Wisconsin State Journal reported that Driver wants the team to redo his contract.
Driver, 34, has two years left on his contract and is due to be paid base salaries of $3.9 million this season and $4 million next season. The report said this is the fourth straight year that Driver has approached the team about reworking his contract. Driver’s agent, Jordan Woy, did not return messages.
Driver is certainly getting up there in age, but he’s always been one of the most underrated players in the league. This might be an interesting story to follow this summer, although given how Driver is the consummate professional, I highly doubt he would hurt the team in any way by holding out.
Hopefully for Packer fans the situation gets resolved, because Driver and Greg Jennings continue to be a solid 1-2 receiving combo.
5/30 Update: The Packers are currently working with Driver’s agent on a new deal.
There’s still a lot of time yet before we find out whether or not Vikings rookie wideout Percy Harvin can hang in the NFL. But as With Leather points out, he’s already turning out to be one of the league’s better sound bites.

We saw all kind of actors and news reporters just kind of blatantly say, “Tebow, I want you.” And he turned them down. I’m looking at him, like, “Man, you are crazy.
Although that seems to fly in the face of this gem, uttered immediately beforehand:

C’mon Percy, you’re either putting that shoe on or you’re not. And you weren’t complaining about Tebow’s style when he gave you that free circumcision. And at least give us some names, sucka. Although I know who my money’s on…Nick Lachey. If that guy was any bigger of a douche, he’d have vinegar in his bloodstream.
I’m sure the women Harvin banged at Florida will appreciate the fact that the former Gator is referring to them as shoes. Well done, Percy.
Venus Williams was upset in the French Open on Friday.
The third-seeded Williams, who reached the 2002 final at Roland Garros, lost to No. 29 Agnes Szavay of Hungary 6-0, 6-4.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion was playing for the third straight day. She lost the first set of her second-round match against Lucie Safarova on Wednesday before play was suspended because of darkness. Williams saved a match point before beating Safarova on Thursday.
She was also stretched to three sets in the first round.
Sounds like fatigue had something to do with it. Bummer.
According to a report by the Miami Herald, former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress wants to play for the Dolphins.
Former Giants receiver Plaxico Burress, who has a residence in Miami, has told people he would love to join the Dolphins if his legal problems are resolved. The Jets and Buccaneers are reportedly interested. Burress will appear in court next month and faces the possibility of a 3 ½ year sentence for carrying an unlicensed firearm.
This was in the paper’s “Chatter” section, so it should probably be taken with a grain of salt. That said, I don’t see Bill Parcells taking a shot on a player like Burress after going toe to toe with T.O. in Dallas a couple years ago. Parcells wants to win just as much as anyone, but he’s too smart to take on a headache like Plax.
Miami certainly isn’t stacked at receiver, but they’re not in horrible shape, either. Even though he hasn’t set the league ablaze yet, nobody is ready to give up on former top 10 pick Ted Ginn Jr. and the team is really high on Greg Camarillo, who they feel can be the next Wes Welker. The Fins also drafted receivers Patrick Turner and Brian Hartline in the mid rounds of last April’s draft, so they’ll be more inclined to let those young wideouts develop than to sign a possible distraction in Burress.
