Dwight Howard was simply phenomenal in tonight’s Slam Dunk competition. Here’s his most memorable dunk of the night:
But this dunk was even better (sorry for the bad quality). Be sure to watch the replay.
That’s just sick.

In a fairly shocking development, the Atlanta Hawks actually made an attempt to improve themselves by taking on salary.
The Sacramento Kings today acquired forwards Shelden Williams and Lorenzen Wright, guards Anthony Johnson and Tyronn Lue and a 2008 second round draft pick from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for veteran guard Mike Bibby, it was announced by Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.
Wright, Johnson and Lue are in the last year of their contracts, so this is mainly a Bibby for Williams swap. In Bibby, the Hawks acquired a veteran point guard that can lead a group of young and talented players. He’ll likely start alongside Joe Johnson, with Josh Smith, Marvin Williams and Al Horford rounding out the lineup. By trading away Shelden Williams, the Hawks have rid themselves of the human reminder of the 2006 draft where they passed on Brandon Roy, Randy Foye and Rudy Gay in order to select the former Blue Devil. Williams is a good defender and rebounder, but the Hawks had to jump at the chance to land Bibby, who can fill a long-standing opening at point guard.
Bibby has been involved in trade rumors for the last year or so with Cleveland being a likely destination. No word on how LeBron is taking the news.
Lloyd Lake, the man claiming he gave Reggie Bush and his family illegal payments and gifts while the star football player was at USC, walked out of Bush’s deposition earlier this week because an unidentified armed man was present in the conference room.
“It was outrageous,” Watkins said. “Never in my 12 years of litigation have I ever encountered anything like this. Cornwell elected to bring a friend with a gun to the deposition. And I would not allow my client to be intimidated and go forward under those circumstances.”
Cornwell said he felt he needed a security guard present at the deposition because of past threats he alleged Lake and his attorney have made against him and Bush.“Given Lake’s criminal background, threats made to me in January 2006 by counsel (Watkins) regarding his criminal background and his gang affiliation and counsel’s inability to control his client, plus recent threats made by Mr. Lake against Reggie Bush, we were advised to take appropriate security precautions when in Lake’s presence,” Cornwell said. “Despite his public accusations, this is the second time that the plaintiff has refused to tell his story under oath.
“This lawsuit stuff is for grown folks. Obviously, this crew ain’t ready.”
I didn’t know “grown folks” felt the need to have an armed bodyguard present for a legal issue. If Bush and his attorney felt threatened by Lake, why not hire actual security guards to oversee the conference? Why have an unidentified gunman present? This case just gets more bizarre by the day.
Willie Gary, a former member of the St. Louis Rams’ Super Bowl XXXVI team, is part of a group bringing a lawsuit against the New England Patriots for cheating.
New England and coach Bill Belichick illegally videotaped a Rams walk-though before the game to gain an unfair advantage, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in New Orleans, the host city of the game.
Willie Gary, who played on the Rams Super Bowl team, wants each member of the Rams’ Super Bowl roster to receive $25,000 – the difference between the bonuses paid to the losing team and the winning team.
A ticket broker, Kevin Hacker, who attended the Super Bowl, asked the federal court to grant 72,922 people who attended the game a full refund. At a face value of $400 per ticket, that would mean the NFL would have to return $29,168,800.
Yeah, yeah – and I need $25,000 too for betting on the Rams that year (legally of course). I totally bet $25,000…so it would be great if the courts would rule in our favor so we could get on with our lives.
The Atlanta Falcons released seven players Friday, including four-time Pro Bowl tight end Alge Crumpler.
The Falcons also cut quarterback Byron Leftwich, defensive tackle Rod Coleman, offensive tackle Wayne Gandy, cornerback Lewis Sanders, wide receiver Jamin Elliott and linebacker Marcus Wilkins.
A team has two options when a new coaching staff and front office is hired. One, they could try and work with what they already have on the roster while slowly blending in new players. Or two, they could blow up the entire roster and start from scratch. Obviously the Falcons and Dolphins have decided to completely start over and after sporting a combined record of 5-27 last season, maybe that’s not a bad thing.
The Falcons could also cut Warrick Dunn, Joey Harrington and Lawyer Milloy before the calendar flips to March, too.
