Exactly the man Jessica Simpson wants

Giants’ defensive end Michael Strahan has no issue with Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo spending his bye week resting on the beaches of Mexico with Jessica Simpson.

“Heck, if Jessica Simpson wanted to date me, I may give her a shot,” Strahan said Thursday. “So I can’t blame the guy.”

You may give her a shot, Michael? Riiiight – you’d give her left arm just to say hello to her. I’m sure that’s exactly what hot ass Jessica Simpson wants, too: Michael Strahan over the Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback. Although hey, if Romo chokes again like he did the last time Simpson was in the stands, maybe she would take a ride on the Michael Strahan Gap-Tooth Express.

McFadden hancuffed after bar incident

Well it’s that time of year again. The bowl season has wrapped up, the NFL playoffs are in full swing and with the draft just a few short months away, one of the top prospects is hurting his stock by getting into trouble.

Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden was handcuffed by police and then released without charges after being involved in a “pretty rowdy scene” at a piano bar early Thursday.

Arkansas’ All-American running back and at least four others were at the downtown bar when a disturbance broke out shortly after midnight, police Lt. Terry Hastings said. A bouncer was hit in the face as he was trying to get the group to leave, Hastings said. A police report did not specify who hit the bouncer.

McFadden’s mother claims that Darren was trying to protect his younger brother. At first this seemed like a big deal, but with more details coming out, it sounds more like a scuffle than a full-blown fight. Apparently it wasn’t even a real bar, but a “piano-bar”, whatever that is…

Bush book may bring down USC program

SPORTSbyBROOKS.com posted an interesting piece about Don Yager’s new book, “Tarnished Heisman”. The book is about Reggie Bush’s behind-the-scenes dealings at USC, including him and his family accepting up to $291,000 from future business clients.

The jacket of Don Yaeger’s “Tarnished Heisman”: “With the explosive information revealed in Tarnished Heisman, Bush stands to be ruled ineligible — a decision that could cost his alma mater the 2004 national championship title, force the forfeit of every game Bush played in after losing his eligibility, and potentially strip Reggie Bush of the shining prize of his college career: the Heisman Trophy.”

The first reax of Adam Rose of the LOS ANGELES TIMES, who covers USC for the outlet: “It doesn’t look good.”

Rose has yet to sift through every last word, but notes that Yaeger, a former investigative reporter for SI, claims in the book that “$47,000 went directly to Bush out of the overall $291,000 that went to his family. That makes it hard to deny he knew what was going on. While the photo section lacks any photocopied receipts, bank statements, or otherwise, the Author’s Note says that a website will publish much of it.”

As the evidence continues to mount against Bush, all we can really think of is where was Pete Carroll? Considering the myriad of entanglements (legal and otherwise) that allegedly ensnared Bush during his time at USC, it’s hard to believe that the coach knew absolutely nothing about what was going on. If he didn’t, he wasn’t doing his job, and should be held accountable.

This is obviously just speculation, but maybe this is why reports have surfaced that Carroll is interested in the Atlanta Falcons’ head coaching job after years of rebuffing offers from various NFL teams. Is Carroll planning an escape plan if shit hits the fan? Either way, Bush has to be uneasy about this entire situation, because the story just won’t die. In fact, it seems to be growing legs.

BIG 12 BREAKDOWN

The Big 12 is last conference to begin league play as the teams will kick off this weekend. The following is a snippet of each team and where they stand as well as where they are heading.

Kansas— Healthier and deeper than just about any team in the country. This is a national championship calibre team.
Texas A & M–Mark Turgeon inherited a roster full of talent. More importantly, he has kept the same type of style as former coach Billy Gillespie that has enabled his players to flourish.
Texas— I am not one to say they are better without Kevin Durrant, but the truth is they are a year older and more balanced than last year. If Augustin continues to have a great year, look out for the Longhorns.
Baylor— Scott Drew has the Bears out of the ashes and into the penthouse. Aaron Bruce is one of the best guards in the league. Baylor should be dancing come March.
Oklahoma— Blake Griffin has performed in the shadow of K State’s Michael Beasley, but been just as impressive. Youth could be served if they win a couple of games early.
Kansas State— Nine new players and a new coach. This is a recipe for disaster, but when you have a player as talented as Michael Beasley and a guy like Frank Martin at the helm you can set your worries aside. This team will hit some potholes throughout the year, however, look for the Wildcats to make the tournament for the first time in over a decade.
Missouri— 94′ of hell brought in by Mike Anderson has become just a slogan for right now. Demare Carroll is an all league addition who will excell in this system, but there is just not enough depth to do what Anderson wants to do.
Oklahoma State— Sean Sutton is on the hot seat and I don’t think they have enough talent or chemistry to save him.
Texas Tech— Bob Knight will continue to coach his tale off, but the dearth of talent will keep them relagated to the bottom of the pack.
Iowa State– Greg McDermott is one of the better coaches in the country, but as Al McGuire said “you can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shit.”
Colorado— Jeff Bzdelik took his third job in four years and still has not had to move his family. Walking into a tailor made situation at Air Force with experienced players who had won was a much different task than what he faces at Colorado. New players will have to learn a new system. His coaching expertise will be tested to say the least.
Nebraska— Doc Sadler has figured out a way to build the roster around Alec Marics. This fact and the fact that he is the best post man in the league will enable the Cornhuskers to make the tournament.
Recapping the league:

NCAA Participants–
Kansas/Texas/Texas A & M/Baylor/Kansas State/Nebraska

NIT
Oklahoma/Missouri

New Coaches at the end of the year
