It was bound to happen: Moss finds trouble

WDBO-AM Radio is reporting that Patriots’ wide receiver Randy Moss has been hit with a restraining order.

New England Patriot’s wide receiver Randy Moss has been hit with a temporary injunction for protection against dating violence.

According to the affidavit Moss committed a battery upon the victim causing serious injury and then refused to allow her to seek medical attention.

The affidavit out of Broward County reveals Moss cannot come within 500 hundred feet of the victim and cannot use or possess firearms.

Give him credit – at least he lasted this long before finally finding trouble. It’s important to note, however, that no criminal charges have been filed against Street Randy. It doesn’t sound like this will be a huge issue, but still, Bill Belichick and the rest of the Patriots don’t need this heading into their biggest game of the season.

Hi kettle this is pot – just called to say you’re black

SPORTSbyBROOKS.com posted a story by Richard Justice of the Houston Chronicle about how Bud Selig is ready to suspend San Francisco Giants owner Peter Magowan and general manager Brian Sabean for looking the other way while Barry Bonds juiced up to the size of a small country.

Selig’s motivation would be, as noted by the Georgie Mitchell, Sabean’s repeated unwillingness to remove Barry Bonds’ (alleged) steroid supplier, Greg Anderson, from the Giants’ clubhouse. In the same report, Magowan told George Mitchell “that Barry Bonds admitted using steroids, Mitchell’s report on steroid use in baseball says. Magowan later attempted to withdraw the disclosure.”

So let me get this straight, Selig is going to punish two people for turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to a player who took steroids? Hey Bud, you’ve chosen to look the other way while your entire league has been on roids for over a decade. Now you’re going to punish other people for the same crime you’ve committed? Please.

In other news, Giants fans everywhere are rejoicing over the thought of Sabean possibly being suspended. At least for the length of his suspension, they don’t have to worry about him signing yet another centerfielder, trading young pitching stars for A.J. Pierzynski, or signing another past-their-prime player to a ridiculous contract.

Who says chivalry is dead? Pacman punches a woman

Current/former Tennessee Titans’ cornerback and national moron Pacman Jones reportedly sucker-punched a woman lawyer at a (shocker!) strip club in Atlanta.

Jones apparently entered the manager’s office, accusing the club of stealing money from him and falsely accusing his entourage of owing a tab. Jones reportedly lunged at the woman multiple times during the meeting, in what the lawyer said was an attempt at grave bodily harm. Jones didn’t connect until afterwards in the hallway, when he reached around a security guard to “sucker punch” the woman. Not only could this be a violation of Jones’ parole, it could result in the league delaying his March return to football activities, and certainly make the Titans less willing to welcome him back.

What’s most amazing about this unbelievable ass clown is that he keeps he keeps applying for reinstatement to the NFL. He and his cronies go out to a strip club, shoot two people, and then he wants to know when he can get back into the NFL. Then he gets busted racing his orange Lamborghini with no license and expired plates, and then he wants to know when he can get back into the NFL. Now he punches a woman in yet another strip club incident, and no doubt he’ll file for reinstatement into the NFL within a month.

This guy needs to be in jail, period. He’s clearly a complete head case and a risk to society.

Update: The woman withdrew the assault complaint.

MID MAJORS MISNAMED

Writers like stories that fit in a neat little box. That’s why they love to call every team that doesn’t play in a BCS Conference (football league) a “mid major.” However, one size doesn’t fit all and sometimes the shoe doesn’t fit. Now there are teams and leagues taking umbrage to such name calling.

In fact this past week Xavier declined an opporutnity to take part in an article being written by ESPN The Magazine titled “Eight things you didn’t know about a mid-major.” They don’t view themselves as a mid major. Nor should they. Just because they don’t have a football team does not make them less of a basketball program than say Northwestern or Michigan. I have been in the new Cintas Center and I can tell you it is one of the nicest college basketball arenas in the country. It might be the nicest. Their set up is second to none. For comparison sake, it is much nicer than Michigan or Northwestern’s home court. Travel budgets are equal and more importantly, their track record is better.

Xavier has been to the NCAA tournament 16 of the past 21 years. That is a better record than over half of the teams in the so called high major conferences. Also, the league that they play in should never be labeled as mid major as it is by some writers. Lazy writers who don’t know basketball history are the guilty parties. The Atlantic 10 has sent more teams to the NCAA tournament with only one loss since 1988 than any other conference. Oh yeah, St. Joe’s was ranked #1 in the country in 2004. When was the last time Miss. Sate, Oregon State, Baylor, Purdue ranked #1 in the country?

Also, these so called mid major teams are paying just as much for a home game as teams in the Big 12 and SEC. Money talks!!

Two other teams that should never be considered mid major. Creighton has been in the top five of attendance and has been to more consecutive NCAA tournaments than over half of the Big 12. And you know what, I am not even going to mention what Gonzaga has done.

So next time you start talking about this team or that team being a mid major, stop and take a closer look. Don’t just repeat what some lazy writer has said in an attempt to wrap everything with nice, neat bow.

SUTTON UPDATE
Has not won a game at San Francisco and is still 2 wins shy of 900.

Randolph to Bucks deal nixed?

Peter Vescey of The New York Post is reporting that Bucks’ GM Larry Harris apparently rejected a trade offer from the Knicks that would have sent Zach Randolph and Renaldo Balkman to Milwaukee for Charlie Villanueva, Bobby Simmons and Dan Gadzuric.

As far as I can determine, the word got out when Harris called his Trail Blazers counterpart, Kevin Pritchard, to check out Randolph, whom the Knicks acquired from Portland last June on draft night, and someone in their organization leaked it to a reporter for The Oregonian.

By that time, the Bucks had summarily rejected the Knicks’ proposal.

The deal would be a no-brainer for the Bucks if not for Randolph’s considerable baggage. He was a stud (23.6 points, 10.1 rebounds) and a relatively good citizen in his last year in Portland, but he has clashed with management in New York, which has prompted this trade offer. He is a force down low and commands a double-team, something that would help the Bucks and their plethora of jump shooters.

Simmons isn’t the same player since his foot injury and Villanueva has been decidedly average coming off the bench in Milwaukee.

It appears that Harris was seriously considering the offer, but nixed it after talking to Portland about Randolph.
