Brady walking with a limp? Oh the horror!

TMZ.com caught Tom Brady wearing a walking boot while limping into girlfriend Gisele Bundchen’s apartment in New York Monday.

The Boston Herald and Boston Globe had the photos — credited to infphoto.com — on their Web sites. A video of Brady walking with a slight limp from an SUV to girlfriend Gisele Bundchen’s apartment in New York is available on TMZ.com.

“Ah, you know, there’s always bumps and bruises. I’ll be ready for the Super Bowl,” Brady said Monday during his weekly radio appearance on WEEI — before the photo and video emerged — when asked if his leg was injured. “I’m not worried about that. I’m not missing this one. I’d have to be on a stretcher to miss this one. There will be treatment this week. In games like this, you get a little nicked up. It’s nothing serious.”

Better call the ol’ bookie and lay a cool $5 on the Giants, because based on TMZ.com’s video, it’s clear Brady won’t be ready in time for the Super Bowl. Hopefully tomorrow they’ll be video of Bill Belichick sneezing too hard and throwing out his back, because then I’ll bump my bet up to $10.

Update: Bets off – apparently Brady shed the walking boot in order to hit the town last night.

No free pass from Neon Deion: LT won’t need surgery

YAHOO! Sports reports that San Diego Chargers’ quarterback Philip Rivers will have surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right leg. Also, running back LaDainian Tomlinson has a sprained ligament in his knee, but it doesn’t require surgery.

This won’t make big mouth Deion Sanders very happy.

Tomlinson is one of the humblest players in all of pro sports. He was the NFL’s MVP in 2006 and has won two straight league rushing titles. Yet his toughness was questioned by fans and TV commentators alike, including former star cornerback Deion Sanders of the NFL Network.

Sanders said he was under the impression that Tomlinson was close to 100 percent. “I have expectations, and when you don’t meet my expectations, you open yourself for us to try to guess,” Sanders said. “Now what’s the problem? You’re a big-time player. And big-time players must play big-time games.”

Sanders also said he thought Tomlinson’s injury would need to warrant a surgery “for him to get a pass on this one.”
Tomlinson didn’t appreciate hearing that.

“He’s never been a running back and had a sprained MCL,” Tomlinson said. “You tell me what running back has played with a sprained MCL and been effective. You might go out there and try to limp around and play, but it’s not going to happen. I don’t know how information gets passed on, but until you talk to the source of the problem, what’s going on with me, I think it’s ridiculous when people make comments like that.”

Tomlinson said he understands that teams don’t like to let opponents know what’s going on, and that it might lead to players’ toughness being questioned.

“I think the funny thing to me is, all the things I’ve played with through my career and haven’t missed a game, now all of a sudden I’m not tough?” he said. “You think I just wanted to sit on the sideline and not go, in the championship game? You think, me? Come on, man, that’s ridiculous.”

Far be it for anyone to question LT’s toughness after what he’s accomplished in his career, but I must admit it was puzzling to watch him stand on the sidelines Sunday while Rivers gutted it out and played through a (what we now know) torn ACL. With that said, however, I’m sure if Tomlinson could have gone, he would have. It probably killed him to be on the sidelines of the AFC Championship Game.

Dungy staying in the Hoosier state

Tony Dungy will return as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts in 2008 according to The Indianapolis Star. Reports surfaced last week that he might step down and that assistant head coach Jim Caldwell would take over.

“I’m here to announce that Tony Dungy is still our coach,” team owner Jim Irsay said this afternoon at a press conference at the team’s West 56th Street facility.

Dungy informed the team today of his decision, which was arrived at after he consulted with his wife, Lauren, at the family’s home in Tampa, Fla.

“I love this franchise. I love my family. My decision after my 10th year was, ‘Can I give my family and the franchise the energy and passion that they both deserve,’ Dungy said. “I look at this job as a job but I also look at it as a ministry.

“I’m happy to be back,” said Dungy, calling today’s announcement a “mutual decision” between him and his wife. “My whole family’s happy and hopefully our team and everyone here is happy.”

It’s good to see someone take some time to make a decision as big as this. Obviously Dungy didn’t let the media or anyone else hinder his decision about whether or not to return. He’s a damn fine coach and surely Colts fans are glad to have him back.

I wonder if Caldwell will ask the Falcons to re-consider him for their head coaching vacancy again. At the time the rumors surfaced about Dungy possibly retiring, Caldwell withdrew his name from consideration for both the Ravens and Falcons’ head coaching positions.

John out at Oregon State

Jay John lost both games on his recent weekend road trip and then came back and lost his job. Knowing that he had to split on the road to keep his job, the Beavers failed to do it and another college coach is shown the door. By my count that is already six possible changes this year and we aren’t even in the thick of conference play.

After over six years of losing John will hand over the reigns to his assistant Kevin Mouton for the rest of the season. Just in case you are counting Oregon State has only had one winning season in the last 18 years. How the might have fallen. Could it be more than the coach? Facilities and budgets will all be beefed up for the next coach. And, oh by the way, John will walk away with $1.1 million as his severance for never leading his team into the NCAA tourney. Not bad. Where do I get a contract like that?

The inevitable names have already surfaced, Mike Montgomery (former Stanford), Bob Knight, Eddie Sutton and Mark Few. Just to name a few… Look also for some NBA assistant’s to be in the mix. Mike Dunlap (Denver) and Dean Demopoulos (Portland). Demopoulos makes sense since he know the region and has shown the ability to evaluate and develop players from his days at Temple.

Let the fun begin….

Girlfriend of Steelers’ player almost goes “Left Eye”

The girlfriend of Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receiver Cedrick Wilson was arrested Sunday after a nearly 12-hour standoff with police resulted in 70 neighbors being evacuated from Wilson’s home.

Lindsey Paulat, 26, of Tarentum, was charged with aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person, KDKA-TV reported.

Robert Amman of the Northern Regional Police Department told the television station that the standoff began a few hours after an argument Saturday morning between Wilson and Paulat. Wilson left his Pine Township home about noon and Paulat’s mother came to talk to her.

While her mother was there, Paulat fired two shots from Wilson’s handgun into a wall, police said. No one was injured.

Paulat’s mother left and police were called around 1 p.m.; neighbors were later evacuated as a precaution. The standoff ended when Paulat threw the gun from the front door, police said.

She was taken into custody about 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

Wilson needs to look at the bright side. Sure, on one hand, he has two bullet holes in his wall and he and his girlfriend won’t be asked over to the neighbor’s house for the next block party. On the other hand, however, his home is still standing, which is more than Andre Rison could say in 1994 after he got into an argument with then girlfriend, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and she burned his $861,000 mansion to the ground.

There’s a silver lining in every storm cloud, folks.
