Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison Monday for funding an illegal dog-fighting ring. He also received three years of probation.
U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson could have sentenced the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback to up to five years. Vick pleaded guilty in August, admitting that he bankrolled the “Bad Newz Kennels” dogfighting operation and that he helped kill six to eight dogs.
Vick was dressed in black-and-white striped prison suit and apologized to the court and his family.
Hudson responded, “You need to apologize to the millions of young people who looked up to.”
Wow, fantastic response by Judge Hudson. Vick got exactly what he deserved and hopefully other athletes will take a good look at this situation and realize what’s at stake if they screw up.
How ironic is it that Vick was sentenced on the same day as the Falcons play the Saints on Monday Night Football? At least ESPN now has a storyline for that dreadful game.
