Remember that cute couple that got engaged on national TV right after Boise State’s thrilling last second victory over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl? Well, Broncos’ running back Ian Johnson (who is black) and Chrissy Popadics (who is white) are all set to marry this weekend, but the only problem is they’re not sure they’ve hired enough security after receiving racist death threats due to their bi-racial relationship.
“You take it for what it is — the less educated, the less willing to change,” Johnson, 21, of San Dimas, Calif., told the Idaho Statesman for its Tuesday editions. “But we’re not acting like we’re naive to all the stuff that’s going on. We know what’s been said. We’re going to make sure we’re safe at all times. It’s an amazing day for us, and we’d hate to have it ruined by someone.”
Wow, that’s pretty mature for a 21-year-old kid dealing with something as big as racism. You’d think people would have more to do with their time than try to ruin a couple’s wedding day just because their skin color doesn’t match. These ignorant, racist idiots should join the rest of us living in the 21st century and stop the nonsense. No young couple should have to deal with this type of hate on their wedding day (or any day for that matter) and hopefully everything goes smoothly for Ian and Chrissy over the weekend.
