The Nashville Tennessean reports that Titans receiver Kenny Britt is now a wanted person in Nashville for outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

According to the report, Britt allegedly made inaccurate statements on his driver’s license applications on two occasions. If he doesn’t surrender himself to the state of Tennessee, he is “subject to arrest,” although his attorney Jonathan Farmer says Britt will cooperate.

“When he gets back he is going to cooperate fully and we are looking forward to getting that resolved in a quick manner,” Farmer told the Nashville Tennessean. “He takes it seriously and is looking forward to getting it resolved.”

Considering Britt has been involved in at least seven incidents with the police since the Titans drafted him in 2009 (which includes a resisting arrest charge last week in New Jersey), it would appear that the young wideout doesn’t take anything seriously. Instead of being responsible during the lockout, Britt has taken the opportunity to get into more trouble. Had he bothered showing up to a players-only workout last week, he would have avoided being arrested in New Jersey.

Britt will eventually have to decide whether or not he wants to play professional football. He certainly has the talent to succeed, but the league has a way of weeding players out who would rather play off the field than on it. JaMarcus Russell is a perfect example of this and while a guy like Pacman Jones is still in the NFL, he certainly hasn’t lived up to his first-round status.

At some point, Britt will have to make a choice between his football career and being a malcontent.

On Wednesday, Titans receiver Kenny Britt was fined $478 after pleading guilty to a careless driving charge stemming from an arrest in New Jersey last April.

And…I…was…shocked. A $478 fine and four points added to his driver’s license? After he was arrested on three counts (including a felony) following an alleged car chase with police? Seriously?

Even though those charges were reduced before he received his punishment, talk about one of your all-time smacks on the wrist. But I said to myself, “Anthony, just wait. He’s a fool. There’s going be an opportunity where he screws up again. Just be patient.”

I didn’t have to be patient very long because Britt was arrested yet again on Wednesday night by New Jersey narcotics officers and charged with two counts of resisting arrest.

That’s right, on the same day he was let off easy for another crime, he pushed away from officers and wouldn’t submit to handcuffs. He’s been charged with a minor disorderly persons offense as well as a third-degree crime, which apparently carries a possible sentence of 3-5 years if convicted. (“If convicted” – ha! Like an athlete would ever be convicted of a crime outside of dog fighting and shooting himself in the leg while in New York.)

Just to be clear, I have nothing against Britt personally. I don’t want to see Britt be a nuisance to society – I just figured he would try to be again.

And why wouldn’t he? He was charged with a felony, saw his charges reduced, and then got away with a slap on the wrist after police officers chased him in his vehicle. If I were him, I would think I were invincible and that I could do whatever the hell I wanted because I was an athlete and the same laws that apply to everyone else don’t apply to me. Then I’d go out and get in trouble again because hey, what’s the worse that could happen? Another $478 fine and a few points on my license? Psshaw.

The Titans better hope this lockout ends soon or else this kid is going to get into more trouble. He has no organization in his life right now and certainly no boundaries. What’s interesting is that had he just been present at a players-only workout on Wednesday instead of committing crimes in New Jersey, this incident would have been avoided. But apparently Britt has no clue about…ah…what’s the word I’m looking for? Oh, right: Responsibility.

According to a FOXSports.com report, Titans’ receiver Kenny Britt was charged with eluding a police officer, lying to an officer/hindering apprehension and obstructing governmental function. Per the report, eluding an officer is a third-degree felony, while the other two charges are misdemeanors.

Britt is now the 10th player that has been arrested since the NFL locked out its players on March 11.

According to a police report, the incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when Britt was clocked driving his blue Porsche at 71 mph in a 50-mph zone. When an officer attempted to enter the roadway to stop the vehicle, the Porsche accelerated and began weaving in and out of highway traffic. The Porsche then exited the highway and was spotted on a local street with Britt and Lord walking away from the vehicle.

The officer ordered them to stop and began questioning Britt and Lord, both of whom denied being in the vehicle. At one point during the interview, Lord ran away on foot, but he was apprehended a block away by a pursuing officer.

Britt, who was recognized as a Titans player, admitted that the Porsche was his after being asked by the officer about the Tennessee plates on the vehicle. Britt, however, claimed he wasn’t the driver.

It goes without saying that not all NFL players are upstanding citizens. Many of them are young, rich, stupid and have too much time on their hands, and Britt (22) is one of them. Some players also think they’re invincible and don’t have to play by society’s rules, which is a recipe for disaster and this lockout is only making the situation worse.

It’s painfully obvious that some guys need the discipline, structure and direction that the league provides. I realize there are 1,600-plus players in the NFL and not all of them are running around like it’s spring break in Cabo, but 10 arrests since March 11? Clearly teams are suffering from not being able to keep an eye on certain players and the Titans are one of them.

This is just one more reason why the lockout needs to end soon.

This has suspension written all over it, but it depends on what the police find in their investigation. If he does miss time, it’s really going to hurt his draft stock, which was slowly on the rise after his productive yet injury-riddled 2010. Suspended players are often great values on draft day. Steve Smith 1.0, Santonio Holmes and Ben Roethlisberger are a few examples of players whose stock was overly depressed on draft day. And all three came back to help fantasy owners for the remainder of the season.

Looking at the big picture, if Britt misses time, this will be an opportunity for Jared Cook and/or Damian Williams to establish themselves as a major part of the Titans’ passing game. Cook was already garnering sleeper status and this will only serve to pump up his stock this offseason.

I know, I know, with championship games still hanging in the balance, it may be a little early to start looking forward to next season, but there were a few late-season performances that got me thinking about 2011. After all, it’s never too early to find a few sleepers.

Jonathan Stewart
All right, he doesn’t qualify as a sleeper, but with DeAngelo Williams’ future in Carolina in doubt — he’s a free agent and the Panthers may not want to pony up to keep him — Jonathan Stewart could emerge as a first- or second-round fantasy RB next season. “The Daily Show” was handed the keys in Week 8 and really disappointed fantasy owners with just 30 yards on 14 carries against the Rams. He looked pretty good on just five carries (for 30 yards) against the Saints before being knocked out for two games with a concussion. But after returning in Week 12 against the Browns, he rattled off five quality rushing performances, averaging 106 rushing yards and an eye-popping 5.5 yards per carry over the last five games. Granted, the Seahawks, Browns and Cardinals were all in the bottom third against the run, but the Falcons were 13th and the Steelers were 1st, and Stewart averaged 7.4 and 3.9 ypc, respectively. (The Steelers only gave up 3.0 ypc on the season, so 3.9 is actually impressive.) The fact that Stewart was able to run like this despite zero threat of a passing attack is also encouraging. If the Panthers can find a QB (or the light goes on for Jimmy Clausen), and Williams is elsewhere next season, Stewart could be in for a big 2011.

Jerome Simpson, Andre Caldwell, Jordan Shipley and Jermaine Gresham
There’s a lot of talk about the Bengals cleaning house this summer, and that includes Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens. Both guys can still play, but the spend-a-lot-of-money-on-receivers strategy hasn’t worked in recent years and the franchise might do well to start fresh with Simpson, Caldwell and Shipley, who have all performed well in stints during their short careers. Simpson and Caldwell are both third-year players, while Shipley is a rookie. After getting the start against a good Chargers pass defense, Simpson caught six passes for 124 yards and two TDs. He has great size and could be a solid starter if given the opportunity. Caldwell had a good sophomore season (51-432-3) as the de facto WR2 in 2009, when Laveranues Coles’ production was less than expected. His targets fell off a cliff when Owens came to town. Shipley seems destined for a long career in the slot a la Wes Welker or Danny Amendola. As for Gresham, the rookie has quietly put together a really solid first season. His 52 receptions mark just the seventh time in league history that a rookie TE has caught 50+ passes. The Bengals can save $2.5 million if they cut ties with Ochocinco and T.O. is a free agent, so the Cincinnati receiving corps could look very different next season. Of course, these wideouts aren’t going to have much success if there isn’t a good QB throwing the ball The franchise has to decide what it wants to do with Carson Palmer, who has had his ups and downs this season (but looked awfully good throwing to this crew against the Chargers on Sunday).

Michael Crabtree
This guy needs a QB and a stable offensive system for a few seasons and he’ll be a star. His yards per catch (13.6) and percentage of targets that result in a reception were comparable to Terrell Owens, but T.O. got 139 targets through W15 while Crabtree had just 95. Why draft a WR in the first round if you’re not going to utilize him? Crabtree showed what he could do against the Rams in W16, catching six passes for 122 yards and a TD despite playing with both Troy Smith and Alex Smith. If the 49ers can get a good offensive mind in at O.C. (and/or head coach) and can acquire a serviceable QB (think Donovan McNabb), then Crabtree could be a 5th-6th round talent again. If we have more of the same, then he’ll be going in the late-middle rounds, which would be a shame given his talent.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead
I don’t have W16 final numbers yet, but heading into Sunday’s action, BGE was RB16 and Woody was RB31 in standard leagues (they were RB21 and RB26, respectively, in PPR formats). Considering that neither player saw much action until the third game, their stats are a little depressed. The Pats locked up Woody for a few years, but BGE is a free agent after the season. If New England brings him back, the duo should be able to form a fantasy-relevant RBBC. The Patriots are so productive offensively that they can support two fantasy RBs, especially in PPR leagues where Woodhead really shines. If everything stays the same, I’d expect the Law Firm to be a good value as a third- or fourth-round pick and Woody to be one of those middle round RBs that will make a good RB3 or flex on most fantasy rosters.

Kenny Britt
He’s obviously a wonderful talent, but there are a couple of things that could depress Britt’s ADP next August: 1) His (lack of a) work ethic and 2) his QB. He showed up to summer activities out of shape and had to work his way out of Jeff Fisher’s doghouse early in the season, resulting in just 10 catches in the first four games. The Titans may be in transition at QB with Vince Young potentially on the outs. If this situation sorts itself out and Britt shows up to camp like a professional, I could see him go in the 4th or 5th round in standard leagues (and maybe the 3rd round in PPR formats). This guy has a TON of upside.

Jahvid Best
Best exploded out of the gates with five TDs and 268 yards in his first two games, but has been hampered by a toe injury for much of the season and has seen his production decline as a result. Best has the potential to be a Brian Westbrook-type weapon out of the backfield, but the Lions are going to have to find an inside runner to handle some of the between-the-tackles duties and limit the number of hits Best is going to take. Given his fragility this season, I expect Best will be a 4th or 5th round RB who could finish in the top 10 (especially in PPR leagues) if he can stay healthy. Hopefully he takes a page from LeSean McCoy’s book this summer and finds a way to beef up without losing any speed.

Tim Tebow
Tebow’s debut against the Raiders was quite good from a fantasy perspective. He threw for 138 yards and rushed for 78 more, and accounted for two TDs (one rush and one pass). Those rushing yards and rush TDs are going to make him a fantasy weapon in years to come, but Tebow showed against the Texans that he can take advantage of a bad secondary, throwing for 308 yards while accounting for two more TDs. I bet Tebow will be a middle (7th-10th) fantasy draft pick next summer which will make him an interesting prospect for those of us who play QBBC.

- So let me get this straight, the NFL moved the Giants-Vikings game to a NFC North city and is handing out free tickets? If I’m the Vikings, I’m pissed. Nice home game for Minnesota – think any Lion fans will get sauced up and attend the game for free just to root against the Vikings?

- Of course, if the roof of the Metrodome weren’t made of paper mache, the Vikings wouldn’t have to worry about playing at Ford Field.

- Does anyone else find it ironic that Sal Alosi’s job as the Jets’ head strength and conditioning coach is to help players get in shape and avoid injuries and he goes out and trips a Dolphins player…who gets injured? You stay classy, Sal Alosi.

- I’m willing to bet that if the Patriots played all of their games in a blizzard, they would be 19-0 and will have beaten their opponents by a combined score of 855-17.

- The Titans’ backdoor cover against the Colts on Thursday night was one of the worst backdoor covers in the history of backdoor covers. First of all, Indy was up 21-0 in the first half. So what should have been a blowout actually turned into a decent game because their defense is made of Charmin extra soft tissue paper. After they allowed Tennessee to crawl back in the second half, Peyton Manning had not one, but two chances to waste the clock and move the ball and he did neither. Then, with the Colts up by 10 in the final minutes of the game (they were favored by 3), Jeff Fisher trots out Rob Bironas for a field goal attempt but calls him back instead. He decides to put his offense back onto the field and Kerry Collins marches the Titans up the field for a touchdown on the final play of the game (a 4th down no less) and covers the spread. If Fisher were actually trying to win the game, he would have kicked the field goal and tried an onsides kick (he needed 10 points, after all). But because he was trying to screw bettors (which is the only logical explanation here), he decided to go for the touchdown and run the clock down to zero in the process. Final score: Colts 30, Titans 28. Thanks, Jeff.

- Speaking of Fisher and the Titans, I loved his explanation after the game as to why Randy Moss didn’t play much (because Moss and Kenny Britt play the same position). I’m sorry, is he running the triple option? Can you not have Randy Moss and Kenny Britt on the field at the same time? Nice coaching.

- I firmly believe that if Cleveland fans had to make a choice between watching Derek Anderson quarterback their team or Jake Delhomme, they’d opt for c) the sweet release of death.

- I’m a little confused by Mike McCarthy’s game plan in Detroit on Sunday. The Lions’ weakness is clearly their defensive backfield and the Packers’ strength is clearly their passing game. So why McCarthy decided to establish the run is beyond me. What’s worse is that the Packers stuck with the run when it wasn’t working. What, did you think you were going to pull a fast one on the Lions, Mike?

- From now on, the Detroit Lions defense will be known only as Ndamukong Suh. “Man, the Ndamukong Suh is playing lights out today.”

- I would write something about the Redskins’ botched extra point but that would be too easy. To watch that catastrophe live was punishment enough for Mike Shanahan and Co.

- I’m starting to think that Jimmy Clausen flat out enjoys being hit. Because there’s no way a quarterback has that little pocket presence.

- The Raiders-Jaguars contest was the most entertaining game of the day and absolutely nobody outside of Jacksonville saw it.

- Sam Bradford ran down Saints’ safety Roman Harper in the open field after Harper scooped up an apparent fumble recovery (the play was overturned because the runner was down) and started racing down field. I don’t know whether to laud Bradford for one of the best hustle plays of the year or criticize Harper for actually being run down by a freaking quarterback.

- With their 40-21 shellacking of the Seahawks on Sunday, the 5-8 49ers are now one game out of first place in the NFC West. If the Giants, Packers or Bucs don’t make the playoffs and a 7-9 NFC West team does, then the NFL should fold up shop for good.

- What time does the Patriots-Bears game start?

- Only the Packers-Lions debacle could hold a candle to the crap football that went at the New Meadowlands. Watching Mark Sanchez and Chad Henne try to move their offenses is like watching a drunk try to start a car with his house key.

- Who would have thought that at the beginning of the year that pundits would be saying, “Man, the Chiefs really need Matt Cassel to come back soon – he’s the key to their playoff hopes.”

- I’m starting to feel the hits Michael Vick is absorbing from my couch.

- Hopefully Kyle Orton still has Josh McDaniels’ number saved in his phone because they’ll both be looking for work soon.

I’m Just Saying…

Want to know how irrelevant Randy Moss has become? It wasn’t until the fourth quarter of Thursday night’s game between the Titans and Colts that I realized he wasn’t on the field. And even then, one of the horrendous NFL Network announcers had to mention something for me to notice.

For only the second time in his career, Moss wasn’t targeted in a game as Tennessee fell to Indianapolis, 30-28. In five games with the Titans, he has just five catches for 62 yards, which of course begs the question: Why did the Titans claim him if they weren’t going to use him?

According to coach Jeff Fisher, the reason Moss didn’t see much action last night was because he and Kenny Britt play the same position.

“Well, (Britt and Moss) are playing the same position and so we try our best to rotate them both, but Kenny was feeling good and he made some plays for us,” Fisher said. “… It’s just that Kenny was a starter here and he came back (from a hamstring injury). He fought back. I’m pleased with everything Randy has done. He’s been great with the guys and great in the locker room and he’ll continue to play.”

On the surface, what Fisher said makes sense. Britt had an injury, returned, and earned his starting job back from the newcomer.

But the newcomer isn’t some street free agent that the Titans signed – it’s Randy freaking Moss. And even if Moss is on the downside of his career, it’s up to Fisher and his coaching staff to figure out how to best utilize the talent on their roster.

Are you telling me that it’s not worth having Moss streak towards the end zone and Kerry Collins throwing him a jump ball when the Titans are down two scores at the end of the game? Is that what Fisher is saying? That because Kenny Britt (the same Kenny Britt that has been in and out of Fisher’s doghouse the past two years) plays the same position that Moss is rendered useless? Come on.

I wonder what Bill Belichick or Andy Reid would do if they had both Moss and Britt on the same roster. I highly doubt you would have heard either of them say, “Well, they play the same position so that’s why we left Moss on the bench for four quarters.” They would find ways to get both of them on the field at the same time because that’s what good coaches do.

It’s ridiculous the way Fisher and the Titans have handled Moss and I wonder if this isn’t Fisher’s way of sticking it to the front office. As in, “Hey, you want me to use this guy? I’ll show you…Randy, sit your ass on the bench.”

If that’s the case, then maybe it’s time for the longest-tenured head coach to move on. I’m not saying that the mess in Tennessee is all Fisher’s fault, but sometimes change is for the best.

Pundits thought that one of the reasons why the Titans put a claim in for Randy Moss was because Kenny Britt’s hamstring injury would sideline him for a good chunk of the season.

Apparently they were right.

Citing a league source, Terry McCormick of Titans Insider is reporting that Britt could miss the next 6-8 weeks. Jeff Fisher sounded optimistic recently about Britt’s hamstring injury but if McCormick’s report is true, the Titans will be without their top wideout for most of the second half.

The Titans better get Randy Moss up to speed quickly because if he can’t make an impact out of the gates next week (the team has a bye this Sunday), defenses will continue to load up the box to stop Chris Johnson. It remains to be seen how motivated Moss will be to play for Tennessee, which is a serious playoff contender but certainly not in the same realm as the Patriots.
