If you’re on Twitter, do yourself a favor and do a search for Jacory Harris. You’re going to see a lot of “Wow!” in that search, but it’s what comes after that “Wow!” that’s the fun part.

From tweet to tweet, it likely varies from “what a throw” to “what the hell was he thinking?”

The Miami junior can be one of the most dynamic players in the country when he’s on, but one of the more frustrating ones when he’s not. And that’s just in the course of one quarter.

Take today’s game against Clemson for instance. Harris hit Leonard Hankerson on a seam route with a pass that couldn’t have been thrown any better. Hankerson didn’t have to break stride after getting behind two Clemson defenders, and went untouched for the touchdown. Even my wife was impressed as she looked up from the Food Network videos she was watching on her laptop.

A couple possessions later, with Miami in the red zone, Harris threw an incredibly horrible interception in the endzone. There was no pressure on him, he just blew the throw.

At this point, we should stop acting surprised at Harris’ up-and-down play. Some people have done that. I heard someone on ESPN Radio this morning state very matter-of-factly that Harris routinely throws into coverage. It’s not something he’s trying to fix, it’s just something he does, which is probably a confidence thing. Harris is supremely confident in his abilities, so he thinks he can make any throw. That’s going to lead to some great things, but some awful things as well. He’s like a skinnier, younger, much less annoying Brett Favre.

There’s a reason that ESPN is calling today “Monster Saturday”: <del datetime="2010-09-11T06:34:23+00:00">It has completely run out of creative ideas.</del> It’s a huge freaking day for college football.

If you’re a college football fan, today is one of those days where you put off all household chores, and curse your friends for even thinking of having a significant event. Or, if you’re a sports writer/part-time blogger, you curse the people who decided to hold your 10-year high school reunion during the Alabama/Penn State game. I mean, c’mon.

Miami is at Ohio State, Penn State is at Alabama, Florida State is at Oklahoma, and Michigan and Notre Dame might actually mean something. That’s a lot of tradition and meaning all packed into one day.

So how’s it all going to go?

First things first, you know what to watch, so I’m done with that. Instead, I’m going to tell you who’s going to win the top five games of the weekend. And I’m serious, these are the teams that are going to win. Bank on it. (Don’t, really. I don’t want to be held responsible for any of your gambling debts. My own are bad enough.)

No. 22 Georgia at No. 24 South Carolina, noon: Let’s take a moment to thank the NCAA for saving us all from the death of amateurism. I mean, how dare Georgia receiver A.J. Green think to sell his jersey? It’s obvious that money is strictly for the University of Georgia to make. I mean, where does he think he lives, America? Oh, yeah, the game … South Carolina could actually have the kind of weapons Steve Spurrier needs to be somewhat good this year. Not like Florida in 1996 good, but good enough to maybe win eight or nine games. Including this one. Pick: South Carolina 24-20.

No. 12 Miami at No. 2 Ohio State, 3:30 p.m.: Jacory Harris tweeted a picture of himself wearing wearing Oakland Raiders overalls earlier this week. What does this mean? Nothing. But it’s awesome. I suppose it does reinforce the belief that Harris is a wild card, and I think that goes for the football field, too. There’s a chance that he’ll go out today and dominate, throwing for 250-plus and a few touchdowns. There’s also a chance that he’ll throw three picks and be the reason Miami loses. Of course, Terrelle Pryor has the ability to go either way, too. I just think the players around Pryor are better than the players around Harris. Pick: Ohio State 27-17.

No. 17 Florida State at No. 10 Oklahoma, 3:30 p.m.: The Week 1 narrative went as such: Florida State is back! Oklahoma is weak! We’re probably somewhere in the middle, actually. Don’t get it twisted, Christian Ponder and the Seminoles are stocked full of talent, and they’ll win plenty of games this year. But Oklahoma isn’t near as bad as it may have looked against Utah State, and that will show today. Pick: Oklahoma 31-24.

Michigan at Notre Dame, 3:30 p.m.: I heard Colin Cowherd and Bob Davie talking on ESPN Radio the other day about how Michigan’s strategy against the Irish should be to take away the run and give them the deep ball, because Notre Dame doesn’t have the weapons to beat you deep. Um, really? Did it only take one day of ho-hum play from Michael Floyd for people who are supposed to know what they’re talking about to forget about him? Truth is, Floyd is going to have a huge day, but so is Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson. The difference is that the Irish have more weapons than Floyd, while Michigan is still searching for other game-breakers. Pick: Notre Dame 31-28.

No. 18 Penn State at No. 1 Alabama, 7 p.m.: There are a few things going Penn State’s way in this game. Mark Ingram probably isn’t going to play, and Marcell Dareus is definitely out for the Tide because of a suspension. Alabama has a very inexperienced secondary against some big Penn State receivers. But that’s about it. The Tide are stacked, and will be able to really bring it against Penn State freshman quarterback Robert Bolden. Add in the fact that it’s his first start on the road, and it’s a recipe for disaster. Pick: Alabama 31-14.

Schedule, game times and interesting tidbits about the top 25 action in Week 2 of college football…

(Games are listed by date and time)

Thursday, September 9

No. 21 Auburn vs. Mississippi State, 7:30PM ET
The Tigers have won eight of the last nine meetings between these two teams, including four straight on the road. After throwing for 186 yards and three touchdowns as well as rushing for 171 yards and two scores in a 52-26 win over Arkansas State last Saturday, Auburn’s Cameron Netwon was named the SEC’s offensive player of the week. He’ll have to be on top of his game tonight in Starkville, after Mississippi State held Memphis to only 41 yards rushing last Saturday in a 49-7 victory. This will be both teams’ conference opener.
Odds: Auburn –1.5 (56.5)

Friday, September 10

No. 23 West Virginia vs. Marshall, 7:00PM ET
This will be the fifth straight meeting between these two teams, as the Mountaineers have won the previous four meetings by a combined score of 141-43. Marshall was crushed 45-7 by Ohio State last week, while West Virginia routed Coastal Carolina, 38-0. Thundering Herd head coach Doc Holliday faces his alma mater and former boss Bill Stewart in this contest, and hopes that Marshall’s defense can improve on the 529 yards of total offense they allowed last week to the Buckeyes.
Odds: West Virginia –12 (47)

Saturday, September 11

San Jose State vs. No. 11 Wisconsin, 12:00PM ET
One week after getting crushed by Alabama, the Spartans will once again play the cupcake role when they take on a Badgers team that rolled UNLV 41-21 last Saturday. Wisconsin hasn’t lost a home opener since Colorado beat them 43-7 in 1995. This will only be the second meeting between these two programs, as the Badgers lead the all-time series 1-0. For San Jose State to have a chance, it’ll have to slow down a Wisconsin running game that amassed 278 yards on the ground last week.
Odds: Wisconsin –38 (56)

No. 15 Georgia Tech vs. Kansas, 12:00PM ET
The Yellow Jackets may be the only FBS team that can score 41 points in a game while completing only two passes, which is exactly what they did in a 41-10 win over South Carolina State last week. Kansas, meanwhile, is coming off a pitiful start under new head coach Turner Gill as the Jayhawks could only muster 3 points in a 6-3 loss to FCS North Dakota State despite compiling 293 yards of total offense. They turned the ball over three times in that game as Kansas has now lost eight consecutive games since starting last season 5-0. Georgia Tech won the only meeting between these two teams to date, securing a victory in the 1948 Orange Bowl.
Odds: Georgia Tech –14 (49.5)

No. 22 Georgia vs. No. 24 South Carolina, 12:00PM ET
With matchups between Miami and Ohio State and Florida State and Oklahoma on this week’s schedule, it’s easy to forget about this great early-season SEC East bout in Columbia on Saturday. Both of these teams are coming off impressive wins, as the Bulldogs crushed LA-Lafayette 55-7 last week in Athens, while the Gamecocks dominated a Southern Miss team 41-13 despite the fact that some pundits assumed the Eagles would give South Carolina a game. Georgia holds a 13-5 edge over South Carolina in this matchup, as the two teams have met annually since 1992 to open conference play.
Odds: South Carolina –3.5 (49.5)

South Florida vs. No. 8 Florida, 12:21PM ET
The Gators kicked off the Tim Tebow-less era by only compiling 212 yards of total offense in a shaky 34-12 win over Miami (OH). Urban Meyer’s squad only threw for 113 yards, turned the ball over three times and lost the time of possession battle 34:44 to 25:16. On the other side, the Bulls won Skip Holtz’ debut by crushing Stony Brook, 59-14. Florida has won 21 straight regular season games and Meyer is 10-0 against intrastate opponents, but quarterback John Brantley has to rebound from a less than auspicious start to the year.
Odds: Florida –15 (49.5)

Idaho vs. No. 6 Nebraska, 12:30PM ET
It looks like head coach Bo Pelini made the right decision choosing Taylor Martinez over Zac Lee to start at quarterback for the Huskers, as Nebraska rolled to a 49-10 win last Saturday over Western Kentucky. Martinez completed 60% of his passes for 136 yards and also rushed seven times for 127 yards and three touchdowns. Speaking of quarterbacks, Nebraska’s own Nathan Enderle led Idaho to a 45-0 win over North Dakota in the Vandals’ opener last week. Enderle threw for 311 yards and two touchdowns while completing 64.9% of his passes. This will be the first ever meeting between these two teams in what could be a closer game than people think.
Odds: Nebraska –28 (54)

James Madison vs. No. 13 Virginia Tech, 1:30PM ET
After losing a heartbreaker to Boise State in their opener Monday night, the Hokies look to rebound against FCS opponent James Madison in Blacksburg. Of course, dropping the opener is nothing new to VA Tech, who has lost the first game of the season in each of the last three years now. But VA Tech is 6-0 against James Madison and has won the last two meetings by a combined score of 90-0. After passing for 186 yards and two touchdowns, as well as rushing 16 times for 73 yards, Hokies’ quarterback Tyrod Taylor should have no problems tearing up the Dukes.
Odds: No Line.

Iowa State vs. No. 9 Iowa, 3:30PM ET
Despite being unable to score a touchdown against the Hawkeyes since 2006, the Cyclones believe they have enough offensive firepower to put the ball in the end zone more than once on Saturday. While he threw two interceptions in Iowa State’s opener last Thursday night, quarterback Austen Arnaud competed 75% of his passes for 229 yards in a 27-10 win over Northern Illinois. He also chipped in 45 yards rushing and one touchdown, while his backfield mate Alexander Robinson rushed for 97 yards and two scores on 19 attempts. Of course, the onus will be on the Cyclones’ defense with Iowa expecting the return of running back Jewel Hampton. Iowa State has lost 36 straight road games against ranked opponents since beating Oklahoma 33-31 in 1990.
Odds: Iowa –13.5 (44.5)

No. 17 Florida State vs. No. 10 Oklahoma, 3:30PM ET
The Sooners may have been looking ahead to this week’s game after barely getting past Utah State 31-24 last Saturday. Oklahoma racked up 422 total yards of offense, but turned the ball over twice and committed seven penalties. The Seminoles, meanwhile, trounced FCS Samford 59-6 as quarterback Christian Ponder threw for 167 yards and four touchdowns on 12-of-14 passing. This will be the first meeting between these two teams since the 2000 National Championship Game when OU won a thrilling, mind-blowing affair, 13-2. The Sooners have won four straight over the ‘Noles since losing in the 1965 Gator Bowl.
Odds: Oklahoma –7.5 (59)

<img src="http://view4.picapp.com/pictures.photo/image/7154346/miami-south-florida/miami-south-florida.jpg?size=500&imageId=7154346" border="0" width="477" title="Miami v South Florida" height="381.6" oncontextmenu="return false;" ondrag="return false;" onmousedown="return false;" alt="TAMPA, FL - NOVEMBER 28: Quarterback Jacory Harris #12 of the University of Miami Hurricanes sets to pass against the University of South Florida Bulls November 28, 2009 at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

No. 12 Miami vs. No. 2 Ohio State, 3:40PM ET
The biggest game on the Week 2 schedule resides in Columbus this Saturday afternoon, as the No. 2 Buckeyes play host to No. 12 Miami. This will be the first meeting between these two teams since the controversial finish to the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, and the first showdown in Columbus since 1977. The focus will be on both teams’ quarterbacks, as Jacory Harris is fresh off a 210-yard, three-touchdown performance in a 45-0 rout of Florida A&M last Thursday and OSU’s Terrelle Pryor threw for 247 yards and three scores against Marshall in a 45-7 blowout. But both teams have outstanding running games and the Buckeyes boast one of the nation’s best defenses, so hopefully this one lives up to the hype.
Odds: Ohio State –8 (45.5)

UNLV vs. No. 20 Utah, 4:00PM ET
In one of the most thrilling finishes of the Week 1 schedule, the Utes knocked off PITT 27-24 in overtime. Utah has never lost in seven meetings with the Rebels in Salt Lake City and is 7-4 in Mountain West openers.
Odds: Utah –22 (54)

No. 18 Penn State vs. No. 1 Alabama, 7:00PM ET
The top ranked Crimson Tide will once again be without their Heisman Trophy-winning running back Mark Ingram when they face No. 18 Penn State in Tuscaloosa on Saturday. These two schools met every year from 1981 to 1990, with ‘Bama winning six games. Nittany Lions star running back Evan Royster only rushed for 40 yards last week, although he carried the ball just 11 times. He’ll see plenty of work this week against a Tide defense that surrendered just 89 total yards on the ground last Saturday in a blowout win over San Jose State. Penn State’s front seven will have its hands full trying to stop Eddie Lacy (111 yards, 2 TDs), Trent Richardson (66 yards, 2 TDs) and Demetrius Goode (66 yards) last week.
Odds: Alabama –12 (44)

Tennessee Tech vs. No. 4 TCU, 7:00PM ET
After winning an exciting, back and forth battle with Oregon State last week in their opener, the Horned Frogs hope to have an easier time with FCS Tennessee Tech this Saturday. TCU climbed to No. 4 in the rankings with the win and has won eight straight home openers and 14 straight overall.
Odds: No Line.

Wyoming vs. No. 5 Texas, 7:00PM ET
There will be plenty of heavy hearts in Austin this Saturday when the No. 5 Longhorns host the Cowboys. Wyoming will be playing for the first time since 19-year-old freshman linebacker Ruben Narcisse was killed in a one-car accident early Monday morning. Narcisse was killed riding in the back seat of a pickup truck driven by cornerback Trey Fox. Texas, meanwhile, defeated Rice 34-17 last Saturday and has outscored Wyoming 92-20 in all three of these schools’ meetings.
Odds: Texas –28.5 (49)

No. 7 Oregon vs. Tennessee, 7:00PM ET
After lambasting New Mexico 72-0 in their opener, the Ducks hit the road to Knoxville this week and will get a boost when running back LaMichael James returns from suspension. Derek Dooley won his Tennessee debut last week, beating Tennessee-Martin 50-0 in the Vols’ first shutout since 2003. This will be the first meeting between these two schools, so it’ll be interesting to see how Oregon plays against a motivated Tennessee team while in unfamiliar territory.
Odds: Oregon –11.5 (54)

No. 14 Arkansas vs. LA-Monroe, 7:00PM ET
LA-Monroe kicks off its 2010 season this week by hosting an Arkansas team that crushed Tennessee Tech 44-3 in their opener last Saturday. Quarterback Ryan Mallett threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. The Razorbacks are 8-0 lifetime against the Warhawks and has won seven in a row against non-conference opponents.
Odds: Arkansas –34 (59.5)

No. 19 LSU vs. Vanderbilt, 7:00PM ET
LSU takes on a Vandy team that they’ve dominated over the years, winning seven straight and outscoring the Commodores 139-42 in the last six meetings. The Tigers had to hang on to a 30-24 victory over North Carolina last week, despite leading 30-10 at halftime. Vanderbilt head coach Robbie Caldwell lost his debut last week in a 23-21 defeat at the hands of Northwestern. Junior quarterback Larry Smith did throw for 240 yards and one touchdown in that game, as the Commodores racked up 432 yards of total offense.
Odds: LSU –9.5 (43.5)

Virginia vs. No. 16 USC, 10:30PM ET
The Lane Kiffin head-coaching era got off to a decent start last week in Hawaii, as USC beat the Warriors 49-36 last Thursday night in Honolulu. Matt Barkley threw for 257 yards and five touchdowns in the game, while C.J. Gable ran for a 20-yard first down late in the game to put away Hawaii’s comeback hopes. On the other side, Virginia beat Richmond 34-13 in their opener and is now 1-0 under new coach Mike London. The Trojans beat the Cavaliers 52-7 in 2008, which was the only meeting between these two teams.
Odds: USC –19.5 (50)

No. 25 Stanford vs. UCLA, 10:30PM ET
The Cardinal and Bruins will meet in the Pac-10 opener for both schools this Saturday night. Stanford has not beaten UCLA at the Rose Bowl since 1996 and has been shut out in two of the past three meetings. The Cardinal hope to get the same rushing effort as they did last week when they rushed for 200 yards in a 52-17 win over Sacramento State. The Bruins, meanwhile, gave up more than 300 yards on the ground in a 31-22 loss to Kansas State last Saturday.
Odds: Stanford –6 (52)

Now that college football is back and we no longer have to spend our time over-analyzing off-field issues, let’s turn our attention to <del datetime="2010-09-03T16:50:44+00:00">over-analyzing what we’ve seen in one night</del> the play on the field.

The first night of games was pretty vanilla — outside of Utah’s overtime win over Pittsburgh, as Anthony pointed out earlier — but it did give us a little bit of insight into a few teams, and what we could possibly expect to see from them down the road.

Let’s take a look at three things we learned on Thursday night:

1. USC’s sanctions have caught up with them quicker than one would have imagined: I figured it would take a year or two before the Trojans really started to feel the weight of the sanctions placed upon them by the NCAA in the offseason. But as it turns out, the non-contact practices new coach Lane Kiffin has had to run because of low numbers have already taken their toll. The USC defense looked awful last night against Hawaii, and you’d be hard pressed to convince me not tackling in practice didn’t have a big role in that. I have a hard time believing it’s the new gameplan, as Monte Kiffin is one of the best in the game when it comes to putting together a defense. And the Trojans have plenty of athletes who are capable of making plays, especially against a team like Hawaii. Sure, USC’s defense looked vulnerable at times last year as well, but this was almost difficult to watch. Granted, the Trojans offense looks legit, as Matt Barkley was brilliant, Ronald Johnson looks like he could be a monster, and Marc Tyler is a bonafide No. 1 back. All this without super-stud freshman Dillon Baxter on the field. Expect some crazy shootouts from the Trojans this season.

2. Dion Lewis isn’t going anywhere unless Tino Sunseri picks his game up: Lewis, a Heisman candidate in many circles, was held to 75 yards on 25 carries last night in Pittsburgh’s overtime loss to Utah. The three yards per carry average is the lowest in his short career at Pitt (his previous low was 3.4 a carry against Navy last year, and he averaged 5.5 a carry for the season). While I don’t want to take away from Utah’s defense, I think this might be a recurring problem for Lewis in big games until Sunseri proves he can stretch the field. The kid can throw the ball down the field, and he has a game-breaking receiver — Jon Baldwin — to throw to, but until he proves that he can stretch out defenses consistently and open the field up for the running game, Lewis is going to have to deal with a lot of defenders in the box. Part of that is Dave Wannstedt and the Pitt coaching staff trusting Sunseri to throw the ball down field and making the play calls to allow for that. Then again, he has to earn that trust.

3. Ohio State and Miami did nothing to temper excitement over next week’s matchup: Sure, they played Florida A&M and Marshall, but both teams were impressively dominant in their wins. It’s often disappointing when a team stumbles the week before a big matchup, taking the luster away from it before we’ve even finished reading the boxscore. But Miami’s Jacory Harris and Ohio State’s Terrelle Pryor made sure that didn’t happen, and also gave us a nice little tease for what could be a very exciting quarterback duel in Columbus. Then again, it could end 6-3.

Go figure, Miami faces four ranked teams to start the season (Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Oklahoma), manages to win three of those games, but then suffers its second loss of the season to an unranked Clemson team at home.

A pesky Tigers team knocked off the No. 10 Hurricanes 40-37 in overtime on Saturday, thanks in large part to Kyle Parker’s big passing day. The freshman quarterback completed 25 of his 37 pass attempts for 326 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. His 26-yard touchdown pass to Jacoby Ford in overtime gave Clemson the victory.

Heisman candidate Jacory Harris made a slew of mistakes in this game and just couldn’t recover. He threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns, but his three interceptions doomed Miami as the Canes turned the ball over a total of four times.

With Miami’s loss, Georgia Tech now becomes the outright leader in the Coastal Division by a wide margin. The defeat also opens the door for the Yellow Jackets to leapfrog the Hurricanes in the BCS standings, which is obviously critical.

The “O” word will start to be thrown around Miami now. Their win over Florida State at the start of the season doesn’t look as impressive now as it did then given how the ‘Noles have stumbled. Of course, their win over Georgia Tech holds strong, especially considering how the Jackets continue to climb the rankings.

Still, with two losses in the ACC, the Hurricanes look rather average right now, don’t they?

In their Week 5 recap of college football, the Draft Zoo writes that Miami’s Jacory Harris and Minnesota’s Eric Decker are risers in this year’s Heisman race.

3.) Jacory Harris, QB, Miami
He’s back too. Harris was wiped from this list after a poor performance in a loss to Virginia Tech, but he rebounded in a big way. His second half against OU was a microcosm for his season. Despite rugged starts, he’s coming through in a big way for his team. Beating OU was a signature moment for Harris.

Week 5 Stats: 19/28 202 yards 3 TD 2 INT, 4 carries -30 yards

5.) Eric Decker, WR, Minnesota
I don’t care that he has no chance to actually win the award. I don’t care that receivers are an afterthought. And I don’t care that Minnesota is no place for a Heisman candidate to call home. Decker is the most consistently uncoverable wideout in the country, and he is single handedly making the Golden Gophers an interesting team. He hasn’t caught fewer than eight passes in a single game this season.

Week 5 Stats: 8 catches 140 yards 1 TD

Outside of Miami’s Week 4 loss to Virginia Tech when the Hokies constantly harassed him with pressure, Harris has been outstanding this season. He just doesn’t panic and with him under center, the Canes have a shot every week.

I absolutely love Decker and I couldn’t agree more with the guys at the Draft Zoo. If you haven’t watched this kid play, you’re truly missing out because he is Minnesota’s offense.

Every time the Golden Gophers need a play in the passing game, he’s there. Every time they need a huge first down in the second half, Decker is the one making the catch. He has NFL-caliber skills and I can’t wait to see what he does on Sundays.

The only knock on him is that he’s a tad injury-prone. But he’s a tough kid and he’s always giving up his body to make a catch.

Jacory Harris is special.

A week after completing just nine of 25 passes for 150 yards and an interception in a loss to Virginia Tech, Harris bounced back to lead Miami to a 21-20 win over Oklahoma on Saturday night.

Harris was far from perfect as he threw two interceptions and took four sacks. But he also threw three touchdown passes while completing 19 of his 28 pass attempts for 202 yards.

How the Canes won this game is a bit of a shock. They were penalized 12 times for 115 yards, turned the ball over twice and trailed 10-7 at halftime.

But Miami opened the second half by marching down the field and capping the drive off with a Dedrick Epps’ 11-yard touchdown pass from Harris. Midway through the third quarter, Harris struck again, this time on a 38-yard touchdown pass to Travis Benjamin.

The Sooners railed with 10 points of their own, but the Canes managed to play keep-a-way for the final four minutes and 18 seconds to secure the win. In a murderers’ row of games, Miami was able to knock off ranked opponents Florida State, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma, with its only loss coming against Virginia Tech last week. The Canes will gladly welcome Florida A&M next week.

OU freshman quarterback Landry Jones didn’t make many mistakes, but he didn’t do enough in the second half to lift the Sooners to a victory. He finished 18-of-30 for 188 yards and a touchdown, but his average pass went for just 6.3 yards and he only had three completions for over 20 yards. (Miami also sacked him three times.)

It’ll be interesting to see what Bob Stoops and Oklahoma plan to do with Sam Bradford. The season certainly isn’t over, but with two losses already on their belt, it’s highly unlikely that the Sooners will be playing for a national championship again. So is there any rush to bring Bradford back? With a home game next week against Baylor coming up, it might be wise to give Bradford another week off.

Then again, with Texas coming up on October 24, Bradford might need to face Baylor to shake off the rust. It’s an interesting dilemma for Stoops and the Sooners.
