The Cleveland Cavaliers will have two of the first four picks in the 2011 NBA Draft, which should help in the rebuilding effort. There is no LeBron James in this draft, but there are some good players that will become stars, or at least solid starters. My early guess is that the Cavs will take Kyrie Irving, who has a chance to become a franchise point guard. He will need to mature as a floor leader, but he’s lightning quick, has good vision and can shoot it.
The pick was originally obtained as part of the Baron Davis trade with the Clippers. It had a 2.8% chance of becoming the #1 pick.

We f-ing deserve it! Too bad the draft field is weak this year . . .
If it were you, would you consider taking Derrick Williams with the #1 and crossing your fingers that Brandon Knight was still there at #4?
The Cavs are back and will turn it around very quickly. All this while LeTrader is going to get bounced in the playoffs by Da Bulls…..Awesome!
Yeah, I prefer Williams to Irving . . .
As someone who said that the Bulls should take Michael Beasley instead of Derrick Rose, I think it’s usually better to go with a point guard who has a chance to be a franchise player. Granted, I didn’t know that Beasley would be so immature, but still.
The top guard (John Wall, James Harden, Rose, Mike Conley (meh), Brandon Roy, Deron Williams) in the last six drafts has turned out to be pretty good. There are three franchise guards on that list, four if you count Roy who has had knee problems. And Harden is coming on as well.
So are you fairly confident that Irving becomes a franchise guy? I think Williams is the better player overall, but there’s no denying that Irving plays the more important position.
Also, there’s no way that if Cleveland took Williams #1 that Minnesota would pass on Irving at #2 is there? Even if they’re still sold on Rubio, they’d pick Irving and try to swing a trade right?
I’m pretty certain Irving is the best point guard in the draft. Williams certainly looked like the better player in the Arizona/Duke game I attended, but Irving was still working his way back from injury. Irving was very difficult to guard early in the season.
I could easily see Williams win the ROY but Irving go on to have the better career.
Re: T-Wolves. I have no idea what they would do, but I wouldn’t recommend passing on Irving hoping that Rubio decides to play in the NBA.
