PFW: Newton “has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement”
Pro Football Weekly’s Nolan Nawrocki wrote a rather scathing review of Auburn quarterback Cam Newton for the publication’s annual draft magazine.
Under “Negatives,” Nawrocki wrote that Newton is “very disingenuous – has a fake smile, comes off as very scripted” and has a “selfish, me-first makeup.” But he didn’t stop there.
“Always knows where the cameras are and plays to them. Has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes him believe he is above the law — does not command respect from teammates and will always struggle to win a locker room . . . Lacks accountability, focus and trustworthiness — is not punctual, seeks shortcuts and sets a bad example. Immature and has had issues with authority. Not dependable.”
Wow, tell us how you really feel, Nolan. I guess he didn’t think that “has questionable character” quite summed up how he felt about Newton.
Pro Football Weekly is a well-respected publication and Nawrocki makes his living from giving his opinion, which is all he did here. Obviously somewhere along the line he thought Newton was being an immature kid with a sense of entitlement and Narworki decided to print what he saw/felt.
That said, could he have made it any more personal? It sounds like Nawrocki has a vendetta against Newton and that’s only going to shed negative connotations on PWF in some people’s eyes. You don’t talk about a prospect’s “fake smile” without sounding like a scorned lover and I wonder what kind of backlash Nawrocki is experiencing after writing the report.

Normally I’m a Cam Newton detractor because I’m not impressed with the guy. But it sounds to me like Cam knocked up this guy’s daughter and left her at the altar . . .
“Has an enormous ego with a sense of entitlement that continually invites trouble and makes him believe he is above the law” . . . Did he interview Newton and Cam said, “Yeah, f-da-police, they can’t touch me!” I highly doubt it . . .
I would normally say that Nawrocki comments are very harsh, but unfortunately I get the same impression from Cam Newton whether he is on or off the field. Also, it does not help Cam Newton that he gets caught up in another scandal during his Auburn career, since he had already been in trouble when he was at Florida for burglary and academic cheating. After his Florida issues I do not think he should have been allowed to play sports anywhere, even a JC for at least a year. Thats means no practices, working out with teammates, etc. during this time period. But instead that just slapped him on the wrist and I can definitly see his, I above the law attuitude. I have personally know several athlete’s that are just as talented as Newton. They never got in trouble, but they never seem to be able to get the opportunities that Newton has gotten and it does not appear that he appreciates his opportunities by his actions (burglary charges, academic cheating scandal, and the recent money payment scandal). So, is Nawrocki really wrong about Cam Newton? I hope so, but Newton as proved it yet.
Still not seeing how this is inaccurate in any way.
@ Barack – nobody said the report was inaccurate.
Hey newguy007! You’ve known several athletes who are as talented as Newton? Really? I can’t believe that, Newton got to running he left almost everybody in his vapor trail. I think that this guy has been and will be trouble buty he is also one hell of a talent so he may very well be all these things as stated in the article. Hasn’t the media both local and national played atleast a small part in creating this bid egoed blow-hard? Hasn’t he done in one spectacular season what most can’t get done in four years? When ESPN routinely covers high-schoolers regular season games and letter of intent days are we going to get big egoed iconic wanna-bes? He deserves most of the blame we must accept the rest!

Looks like he was right. He’s practically demanding Clausen give up his number. Sounds like he does have a sense of entitlement.
