2010 Fantasy Football: Week 17 Rankings
It’s an especially tough week to rank players since one has to play the guessing game of which teams will be resting players and which teams won’t. You’ll notice that the top of each set of rankings are dominated by players on teams that still have something to play for. I won’t be doing a Q&A post this week, so feel free to post any questions you may have in the comments section below.

My 12-3 Superbowl Team has been Crushed by Injuries & Week 17 variables. Need your help badly.
Have lost Vick, Hicks, Coulston, MJD, with Hillis and Moreno ribbed out. Been scrambling. Here’s what I’ve got out of the survivors and our 12 team, standard scoring leftovers.
QB: Bradford.
RBs: J.Charles, Torain, Jennings (can I trust without Garrad), and Moreno (press report on Rotoworld just said Coach wants him to start & play). Have dropped Hillis for a WR, but probably could get him back.
WRs: VJax, Britt, Joe Webb (Yahoo league classifies him as QB or WR) and J.Ford (return yardage scoring; so he’s an option).
Need 2 RBs, 2 WRs, and one flex (WR or RB).
Also dumped the Philly DST for ATL DST, but GBay is surprisingly available.
Here’s what I’m thinking:
VJAX (assuming Champ Bailey out or hobbled);
BRITT (nervous about fact that you ranked Kerry Collins last in QBs)
J.CHARLES (assuming KC will go for a rushing title)
TORAIN (uneasy with rib injury & match-up)
For FLEX?????? WEBB (if Favre out), J.FORD (Indy should score often creating kickoff return opportunities), Match-up logic would suggest JENNINGS first, but can’t afford another flop. At game time, could gamble w/ MORENO if he continues to improve, but uncomfortable w/ match-up, injury risk & Tebow vulture.

hey john, i’m down by 19 as a result of vick and eagles d not playing well, outthinking myself and playing fred jackson over adrian peterson, and rolling with rashad jennings as my flex. my lineup for week 17 now is as follows:
qb: joe flacco
rb: adrian peterson
rb: rashard mendenhall
rb/wr: rashad jennings
wr: mike williams (tb)
wr: miles austin
te: jacob tamme
d/st: eagles d/st
k: josh brown
i picked up tebow, i have pierre thomas as well (but worried about the fact he got dinged up today and ivory’s return), and picked up jacoby jones as well. if i’m going for upside points to make up the differential, do you think it’s worth the risk to plug in tebow instead of flacco? flacco is solid at home, but at the most, i’m expecting 15-20 from him … and rashad jennings or pierre thomas could go either way in my mind. also considering jacoby over austin, but i’m hoping miles can have a big day against the eagles backup secondary and he seemed to flash good chemistry with mcgee. anyway, hope you had a great holidays and happy new years.

Forgot to mention in my last post.
Since I’m reaching deep, two other possibilities at RB are Anthony Dixon (ankle status), and Jerome Harrison (my gut says to stay away from the Philly uncertainty, although Harrison was fantastic in the close last season, yet its hard to know if he’d run behind a second team O-Line. To protect Kolb, PHL will probably keep their starters in…I’m thinking too much).
Larry Fitzgerald is available, but uneasy both w/ Skelton, inevitable double-teaming, and risk of head reinjury. Hard to play over my other options.
Open to any ideas. We also use three IDP players. Along with Rackers, they saved me last week…..hope it can happen again.

I have a couple choices to make at QB and WR with a $1000 on the line this week. With Maclin likely not playing much who do you like better as my WR # 2 out of the following : Danario, Caldwell or J. Simpson ?
At QB I have Freeman and Tebow … Freeman has taken me this far so I like him better this week plus I have Mike Williams ( TB ), if that matters.

Want to know your thoughts for the final week…I was pretty much set on the Pats Def and you have ranked them high too. But was wondering if I should pick up a def that has something to play for like te Ravens, Giants or even the Rams?

Have Tamme and Owen Daniels. Been playing Tamme. If Andre Johnson is inactive, would you start Daniels. He has incrementally less competition for targets (Wayne, Garcon, White, Addai vs. Jacoby Jones, Foster, Walter & Dressen). Daniels plays in dome at home. Tamme plays to win division.

I’m really curious about your high ranking of V-Jax (although you are by no means alone!). Chargers have nothing to play for in general and if Jackson’s impending free agent status was a motivation, wouldn’t last week have been the time to pour it on?
I have him in my lineup but his poor showing last week basically put me 10 points down on the championship so I’m gun shy. I have Malcolm Floyd as well (but don’t trust his hamstrings!) and Mike Williams – TB (but don’t like his matchup). I can pick up James Jones-GB or Robert Meachum-NO but am I overthinking this?

I’m confused about Kenny Britt and Kerry Collins. I started a healthy Britt last week with good results.
It is encouraging that you and other leading FantasyPro experts all have Britt in the top 10 WRs. Conversely, you and these same guys all have Collins ranked in the bottom 5 QBs. I am having trouble reconciling these facts.
These rankings seem to imply that Collins will only throw one touchdown pass to Britt and not do much else (unless the makes a lot of turnovers which reduce his other passing scores). Now Collins is on the downside and Indy has a strong pass defense, particularly at home, but….. If all are down on Kerry shouldn’t that make Kenny a much riskier play when compared to other good WR receiving from higher ranked QBs. Plus if Britt is so talented (which he is), won’t he be doubled teamed to death.
What am I missing? I continue to like Britt and want to play him, but Collins’ universal low ratings are scaring me off. As always thanks for your fantastic advice which has taken me to the finals.

Ok, so I’m playing in the Super Bowl in my league and here is my line-up and concerns. Let me know what you think and thanks for your advice.

RB: Adrian Peterson
RB: Arian Foster
RB/WR: Derrick Mason
WR: Santana Moss
WR: Percy Harvin
TE: Jason Witten
D/ST: Patriots
K: Adam Vinatieri
Bench:
QB: Matt Cassel
RB: Peyton Hillis
RB: Marion Barber
RB: Thomas Jones
WR: Brandon Lloyd
TE: Vernon Davis
K: David Akers
I’m a little worried about Brady over Cassel and Vinatieri over Akers but think Brady is solid and the Colts are playing for something at home and indoors. Also I like Brandon Lloyd but I’m not sold on Tim Tebow yet and the Chargers D/ST is excellent against the pass and opposing QBs. Hillis I’ve benched because he’s banged up and Pittsburgh is formidable. One other note the Ravens D/ST is available and I was thinking of picking them up over the Patriots D/ST.
