Vitale: Pete Carroll “beat the posse”
During the broadcast of the Georgetown/UConn game on ESPN, Dick Vitale commented on the report that Pete Carroll has signed a deal to coach the Seattle Seahawks.
“Well, you know, to me, he beat the posse. Posse coming after him down there, the NCAA. He takes the money, the program gets hurt in the future. I really have a problem with that. These guys go on, they leave the program, take their cash and run. Because, you know, the NCAA is still investigating them for Reggie Bush. And I just feel that he beat the posse, got his cash, and off he went.”

You know, I agree with Dickie V in that regard… but he needs to look at HIS neck of the woods, that is College Hoops. Because “beating the posse” is basically JOHN CALIPARI’S m.o. And I’ve never heard him say that about Coach Cal, especially since Cal has done it not ONCE, but TWICE (UMass and Memphis), or is “Dookie V” so naïve to think Calipari had nothing to do with those voided Final Fours?
Good point.
Straight from Dickie V’s mouth…

“This guy has been bashed and bashed, and in every case he has been cleared of involvement by NCAA investigators. Isn’t that enough?”
He seems to think that Carroll’s involvement in the Bush scandal may be bigger than Calipari’s involvement in the Camby/agent scandal and the Rose/SAT scandal. Was Calipari involved in those two incidents? Was Carroll involved in (or did he know about) the Bush incident?
But being a member of the media, Dick can’t pick and choose who to defend and who to criticize, if he wants to maintain credibility…I know, Dick Vitale and credibility are rarely uttered in the same sentence…otherwise, it looks as if he has an agenda. I find it interesting he also excused Pitino from his indiscretions, saying he’s “still learning life’s lessons” as if he were a 20 year old that got caught cheated on an exam. He seems to think it’s ok to criticize the football guys but he doesn’t have the balls to criticize the boys in his “mafia’.
If he truly believes Calipari is innocent and Carroll is not, he doesn’t have to treat them equally. He’s saying that Calipari has been cleared by the NCAA, so that’s something.
I get your point about Pitino.
Dick Vitale knows nothing about football PERIOD!!! He needs to stay in his realm of limited expertise, BASKETBALL!!! Listening to him rant on a sport he knows from a distance, makes my blood boil!!!
