2010 Rose Bowl Game Information
Matchup: Ohio State (10-2) vs. Oregon (10-2)
Kickoff: 4:30PM ET
TV: ABC
Odds: Oregon –3.5
Key Stats:
Ohio State comes into this game with the 19th best rushing offense in the nation, led by running backs Daneil “Boom” Herron and Brandon Saine, as well as quarterback Terrelle Pryor (who almost went to Oregon before deciding on OSU). The Buckeyes also have the fifth best run defense in country, the 17th best pass defense and are ranked fifth in both total defense and scoring defense.
Oregon has been an offensive juggernaut this season, averaging over 37 points (they rank seventh in the nation in scoring offense) and over 236 rushing yards per game (sixth in the nation). The backfield tandem of LaMichael James and Jeremiah Masoli has been tough to stop this season and the duo is aided with the return of one-time Heisman candidate LeGarrette Blount, who missed 10 games after serving a suspension. Defensively, the Ducks rank 32nd against the run and 37th against the pass.
The Bottom Line:
This game offers a great matchup between the Ducks’ sixth-rated rushing attack versus the Buckeyes’ fifth-rated run defense. But the key to victory might be whether or not the undersized, fast Oregon defense can match up to the physical (yet inconsistent) OSU offense.

I’m biased, but I like the Buckeyes. The key is their defensive line. They can put pressure with just their front 4. It’s not quite as good as Nebraska’s but it’s close. If the Ohio State d-line controls the line of scrimmage they win the game. Of course, if Masoli plays great despite the pressure that will make things tough.
Also, since their offense has simplified things, relied on the run and put less pressure on Pryor to pass, the offense has been very consistent with over 200 rushing yards per game.
It should be a great game.
I’m giving it to the Ducks. They have been following a program to “water the bamboo.” They brought in Greg Bell, a former UO athlete and motivational speaker to help them stay focused and disciplined. Coach Kelly and LaMichael James have been talking it up as the secret to their success.
I just don’t see OSU being able to stop Oregon. Aside from the first three games of the year, before our O-line finally gelled, no one has been able to stop us. The only team that beat us was Stanford, and we still got our yards and points that game. Luck was on fire that game killing us with deep passes which opened it up for TG. I just don’t see Pryor being able to duplicate Luck’s passing down field. I also think OSU’s defensive stats are over rated seeing how according to the saggarin ratings they had the 61st toughest strength of schedule. Oregon had the 7th. I really think it is going to be a double digit win for the Ducks. Either way it should be a good game.
Just to clarify my above statement I meant that Stanford was the only team to beat us after our first three games.
Ohio State will come into the game just like the last five games of the season. They will establish the rush with Saine, Herron and Pryor. Pryor did not run much in the last three games because he was nursing injuries which were down played by the Buckeyes. They will run five yards at a time and control the clock which will frustrate the Ducks. The OSU defensive line will put pressure on Masoli. He will throw two interceptions which will give the game to Ohio State.
Oregon has the edge in the voting so far. This is a real test for the Buckeyes. If Heywood stays they have a real shot to play for the National Championship next year, but they need a win against Oregon to get some credibility.
The bucks D-line will overpower the Ducks, leaving the Ducks scrambling to get close to the yardage they are used to. The bucks O-line will also allow for a solid buckeye run game to develop. Bucks will win a close game.
I don’t see osu stop to much of Oragons run game but to keep gaps plogd and linebackers home on ths one make them throw more and presure the QB OSU come and wins by a Touchdown and a Fieldgoal
Great win for the Buckeyes. As I said above, the defensive line was key. Oregon faced a real defense tonight.
That said, Pryor surprised me with his great performance.
