Chris - all great points. I don't think Favre could survive in McCarthy's offense either. The best fit for him is the offense he's currently in.

And I agree - stop watching the highlights in order to form an opinion. The Niners shouldn't have been in a base defense on that final play. Had they had enough defenders back in coverage, that pass probably gets knocked down.

Thanks for joining the discussion.

BTW - The 'stop watching ESPN highlights' is not a criticism towards the authors of the article (great article/post), it's more of a general criticism to the casual fan that argues based upon superficial ESPN analysis and highlights.

Again, thanks for the article.

Favre couldn't run the Mike McCarthy offense as it's defined today. The Packers are a verticle team that frequently needs to get down the field and attempt (preferrably complete) passes of 20+ yards. This is where it's easy to criticize Brett Favre. Brett has been extremely inconsistant in intermediate to deep passing for the last three years. Last year he was 31st in the league among QB's while making such throws. The two years prior he was in the bottom third of the league as well. Favre is EXTREMELY inconsistant/inaccurate on the deep to intermediate pass while Rodgers is not.

Props to Favre for completing the comeback, but had Dre Bly caught the INT Brett threw to him the prior series (which Bly Dropped, would have bee a pick six) we would be talking about Favre's 23-46 (50%) passing with a league worse 5.5 yds per attempt. Favre is walking the razors edge between 'game manager' at best and goat.

Again, give him props for a great throw but he is not an intermediate to deep threat any longer (with any consistancy). Follow the trends, stop watching ESPN highlights.....
