Brett Favre throws crackback block at Eugene Wilson’s knees
During the Vikings-Texans preseason game on Monday night, Brett Favre threw a crackback block at the knees of Houston safety Eugene Wilson, which many are calling a dirty play.
Mike Tirico and Ron Jaworski were right to call Favre out. You can’t go for a guy’s knees when he’s not looking, not too mention the play is illegal. And I thought Brett might have a cracked rib? Apparently the rib must not be hurting him too much if he’s willing to throw his body at the knees of a opposing defender.
This isn’t to say that Favre is a dirty player, because he’s not. As far as I can remember, this is the first time where he’s been involved in a play that could be deemed as “dirty” and one dirty play doesn’t make him a dirty player. (I feel like I’m writing lyrics for a rap song with how many times I referenced dirty in that last sentence.)
That said, Favre shouldn’t have gone low like that and he deserves to be criticzed for his actions.

Agreed. Favre remains my favorite NFL player, but that doesn’t blind me to the facts.
Personally, I think it was more incompetence than malice. He looked to be trying to throw the same sort of block he has sometimes thrown in the past leading an end around. It just doesn’t work when you’re blocking from that position –
even if it is the only way you really know how to throw a block.
All that said, I think Childress (or whomever calls plays) needs to be called out too. Putting Favre out there on that play was about the dumbest thing I’ve seen in quite a while. Who takes a near 40 year old guy who just got into camp and is guaranteed millions of dollars out in that position?
In a preseason game no less. I’m sorry if this is too strong, but that takes a serious asshat.
Jeff,
Couldn’t agree more in regards to Childress. He stepped over Jackson and Rosenfel’s backs just to get Favre to come to Minnesota and then he calls a play like that?
Ridiculous.
It’s just a matter of time……..ribs?, arm?, shoulder?, interceptions?…….
Forget the block. He should be criticized for that ugly uniform he’s wearing.
