The Lakers have already used all of their mid-level exception on Ron Artest, so their only option is to work out a sign-and-trade with another team involving Odom. I took flack from some numbnuts <a href="http://www.scoresreport.com/2009/07/09/getting-better-or-getting-worse/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">on another post</a> because I didn't have the Lakers listed amongst those teams that are getting better. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that Artest > Odom + Ariza. They need to re-sign Odom to improve this offseason and it now looks like they may not. I don’t think so. Lamar has always reminded me of a Derrick Coleman type player(all the talent in the world yet a distinct lack of drive and focus). If he had half the drive of Kobe or KG he would at least be a top ten player in the league, maybe even top five with his unique skill set. If the Lakers don't resign him are there other free agents (recently waived or otherwise) that you think could lessen the impact? I agree.
