Report: Favre to meet with Vikings’ coach Brad Childress
According to ESPN.com and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Brett Favre will meet with Vikings’ head coach Brad Childress sometime this week at an undisclosed location to discuss his return to football.
The ESPN report stated that there is a mutual understanding that sometime soon after the meeting, Favre will decide whether to sign with the Vikings and that Childress would expect him to participate fully in the offseason minicamps and training camps. Favre, who will turn 40 on Oct. 10, was never fond of participating in the Packers’ offseason camps. The future Hall of Famer did not get traded to the New York Jets in time last year for that to become an issue.
One thing working in the Vikings’ favor is that Favre is very familiar with the West Coast offensive system the team runs — he directed the same offense for several years in Green Bay. He also is extremely close with former Packers assistant and current Vikings offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.Perhaps the Vikings’ biggest concern will be the condition of Favre’s injured right biceps tendon, which played a role in his struggles late last season when the Jets won only one of their final five games. ESPN reported that Favre might believe his arm can heal on its own without surgery, and how the injury heals will be a factor in his decision.
Assuming of course that these reports are true and that he wants to come back, the question the Vikings should be asking themselves is whether or not Favre makes them better. Since 1998, he is 3-6 in the playoffs with 16 touchdowns and 18 interceptions and his play dramatically fell off again towards the end of last season because of his biceps injury. Is he completely healthy? If he is, can he stay healthy for an entire season?
I’m not entirely sure that at this point Favre is significantly better option than Sage Rosenfels or Tarvaris Jackson. The same core that got the Vikings to the playoffs last year is returning and while Rosenfels isn’t a spectacular quarterback, he can certainly turn around and hand the ball to Adrian Peterson 25 times a game.

Yikes! Favre is actually serious about this????
Let’s not forget that his name came up in the MVP conversation after the Jets beat the Titans last season, before the late-season skid. When he’s healthy, he can still play.
**head in my hands**
Assuming there is any truth to this at all.
I really don’t want to see this. Watching him at the tail end of last year was so rough. He’s probably still better than Rosenfels or Jackson for a few games – especially with a real run game to fall back on and that massive O-line to hide behind.
If he’d gotten his arm fixed last year when he needed to – like November – this might be possible. As it stands, I think this has all the appearance of a really sad final chapter.
Everybody knew Favre would have a hard time hanging it up. It’s just getting really hard to watch.
The last thing I want to see is Favre in a Vikings uni. Alas, it looks like it might just happen.
I’ll believe it when I see it – Childress has to look at every opportunity to get his team a real QB, and Favre would be a great fit in MN. I’m not shocked that they’re talking.
Lacking real rehab for that arm, I just don’t see Favre being able. If he got it fixed and worked his butt off, maybe he could pull a Vinny next year, but at the moment, I think he’s at best a stop-gap measure for a couple games.
Like I said, I think this would be a very, very sad final chapter to the amazing career of my favorite football player.
I love the move, I can’t wait to see Favre break the hearts of Vikings fans everywhere! The good news is, I think he will find a way to beat the Packers twice as well, now, if we can only find a way to destroy the Bears!
I Say go for it. The man is one hell of a quaterback, and at the same time he can stick it to Ted Thompson.
I wouldn’t be surpised to see him play again, but all he’ll get out of it is put the interception record so far out no one will ever touch it.He should quit while he still gets some respect.
As a Bears fan, I have watched Favre have countless, HOF performances against not only my team, but the rest of the NFC North and NFL. For years I have hated him for being a Packer, but respected the hell out of him for playing the game it was meant to be played; all out, no excuses left on the field. In the past year with the fiascoe & being shipped to the Jets, and now this crap?? I’ve lost all respect I had for this man. He’s turned into an NFL whore who just can’t hang ‘em up.
You nailed it Doug. He was good some years ago,but he’s just hurting his name now.
I hope your Bears cream him. I’m a Bronco fan and hated to see Cutler go, so am hoping he does well for Da Bears. Good luck.
I Say go for it Brett if your body can take it. Bret is one hell of a quaterback,It was all the turnovers that cost Minn the game. They should have won the game hands down to many turnovers don’t blame Brett.
Make no mistake, if Favre is meeting with Childress this soon it means he IS DONE. He wouldn’t pull the same waiting game for a coach and staff he truely respects, (unlike the Packer’s McCarthy) and keep them hostage into the spring. So odds are he is signing off for good this time. Can you say QB Coach for the Saints next year?
