Cutler to be traded to Redskins soon?
Here’s he latest on the Jay Cutler trade situation from ESPN.com’s Chris Mortensen:
• The Redskins are acting with urgency in their pursuit of Cutler but it doesn’t appear the Broncos have interest in Jason Campbell. Consequently, even while the Redskins may be willing to offer two first-rounders for Cutler, they are trying to gauge interest elsewhere for Campbell. If the Broncos do deal with the Redskins, it would give them control of the 12th and 13th picks in the draft.
• The Lions are interested in Cutler and would be willing to send the Broncos the first pick in the draft. But the Broncos don’t want it. Rather, the Broncos would ask for the Lions’ second first-round pick (No. 20) and possibly their second-rounder (No. 33), or another first-round pick in 2010. The Lions don’t believe they can financially bear the burden of paying for the first pick in this year’s draft, as well as sign Cutler to a contract extension.
• The Jets and Buccaneers also are involved in talks with the Broncos.
• The Panthers have some level of interest and are not opposed to including defensive end Julius Peppers in trade discussions. However, even though the Broncos have a need for a player of Peppers’ caliber, they are reluctant because signing Peppers to a new contract, a necessity to complete a trade with Carolina, is cost-prohibitive for the team.
Mortensen is also reporting that a Cutler trade could happen by as early as Friday of this week, with Washington being the top landing spot for him. According to the Washington Post, the Redskins recently offered quarterback Jason Campbell to an undisclosed team for a second-round pick. But nobody knows if that report is accurate and if it was, who the other team involved was.
If you’re a gambler, I’ll update the Jay Cutler trade odds for you below:
Redskins 5/1
Lions 12/1
Jets 20/1
Bucs 20/1
Panthers 50/1
Field 8/1

Wow, not even a mention of the Chicago Bears. They have as good a shot, or better, than the NY Jets. Denver doesn’t want Cutler in the AFC, no way. Another Bear fact. As a kid, Cutler grew up in Indiana a Bears’ fan (re-signing to a long-term contract might give Cutler some say).
The Bears have the 18th pick that they could package with other draft picks, and/or Brian Urlacher, Devin Hester and anyone else.
I am, of course, very partial, since the Bears could use a solid QB behind a revised offensive line (Orlando Pace,Chris Williams), with a solid young running back (Forte).
Call the Bears a long shot but they should have at least made your list of possibles…….I can always hope.
Da Bear,
I did a whole post on the Bears being interested in Cutler yesterday:

ay-cutler/
Only referring to the Bears not making your list of possibles unless you include them in the “the Field”. I think they have a better shot than the Jets who are at 20/1.
Your post yesterday was excellent.
Washington trades for Cutler, Lions give up a 2nd rounder for Campbell? Thoughts? I’m on the fence, I don’t know quite enough about Campbell, other than that he is young and has not had any consistency in his systems during his career…
Thanks Da Bear – I really appreciate that. I guess I should have thrown the Bears in there considering a wrote an entire piece on just them being interested yesterday!
All right, new odds for Da Bear:
Redskins 5/1
Lions 12/1
Bears 15/1
Jets 20/1
Bucs 20/1
Panthers 50/1
Field 8/1
Jon – The top pick in the 2nd round is essentially like a late first round pick. Is Campbell worth a late first round pick in your eyes? Maybe he is considering what it would cost to pay Stafford at No. 1.
I always liked Campbell. His release can be elongated at times, but I love his mechanics and I think he can succeed in the NFL. But he seems like the type of QB that will need a fair amount of talent around him in order to win. Obviously the Lions don’t have that yet, but maybe after a couple solid drafts they will.
It’s an interesting idea to say the least.
I have absolutely no idea how I feel about it. I know Campbell has been essentially a “game manager” over his career, but never the guy that has been able to lead a team to victory himself! Just checking what everyone thinks of him… Honestly, I’m a little excited to see what Daunte can do for us this year, if he flops, we’ve lost nothing, but if he succeeds…!
Great call Da Bear! I screwed the pooch by forgetting to include the Bears in this post and then giving them 15/1 odds in my update.
I should relinquish my job to you, my friend!
Ahhhhh, Mr. Stalter, please keep your job, nobody does it better than you. I think the Bears faked out a lot of people and still have 8 picks in the draft……..ps: Bears 4th exhibition game is in Denver.
