They have a nice young core, but the starting pitching is rough. But you're right - McPhail is trying to usher in a new era and maybe after a couple of solid drafts and adding a couple arms, this team could be ready to compete. He has replaced quality with quantity and hope. Even with good pitching, the best this club could expect to achieve is a .500 winning percentage. Two of the things this club needs is a) a manager who knows how to win at the major league level and b) a club leader who can carry the team when the club goes into a slump.
