ESPN.com is reporting that the Chiefs have fired head coach Herman Edwards.
Edwards was 15-33 in three seasons with the Chiefs, including 2-14 this season.
Edwards’ status has been in doubt since the Chiefs hired Scott Pioli as their general manager on Jan. 13. Asked at his introductory news conference about Edwards’ status, Pioli declined to say.
He was 41-44 in five seasons as head coach of the New York Jets, including three trips to the playoffs.
Not a total shock, obviously. New general manager Scott Pioli probably wanted the organization to start fresh, although it’s not clear that this point which way he’ll go in terms of a new head coach. Several rumors have Pioli reaching out to Cardinals’ offensive coordinator Todd Haley after the Super Bowl concludes, but there isn’t any hard evidence yet to support that.

blew it? I’m thinking if a team that still needs to build its core talent is going to have a terrible time with Gruden at the helm.
The real team that dropped the ball is the Cowboys. They would actually be able to win a postseason match next year if they hired Gruden.
A team that is still in building will fail epically if they hire Gruden.
Not sure about the Gruden move for Dallas. I would think Shanahan would be a better fit.

Haley is a Parcells guy so he’d be a perfect fit for Pioli. The Dungy-light experiment of Herm Edwards is over. Both teams he’s coached have gotten worse the longer he stays. Maybe he should try the Raiders, that way they’ll suck on his way in and his way out.
I would tend to disagree about Shanahan and Gruden being the same. Shanahan has a better win percentage and 1 more superbowl than Gruden. I agree with the ego aspect of it and I believe that to be the trump in the Dallas gig. Gruden’s ego couldn’t fit in that huge new stadium they are in next year, especially with the ego’s that already reside there. Jones will not get rid of TO, although they need to.
