Proof that NFL.com is not an objective news source
I’m looking at the front page of NFL.com and there is not a single mention of the debacle controversial call that ended the Pittsburgh/San Diego game.
That’s proof positive that NFL.com, which I believe is still owned by the NFL owners, is not a thorough and objective source of football news. Sure, they’ll provide info that show the league in a good light, but they aren’t even mentioning the biggest news to come out of Sunday’s NFL action.

What a joke. This is the league that wants to put regulations on everything because they only want fans to get their content from NFL.com. And yet they don’t even mention the most news-worthy story of the week.
I’m not surprised, but it’s still unbelievable.
Of course there’s no mention of it — the NFL isn’t going to talk about a gambling story on their league-owned website. If the call had affected the outcome of a game, then they wouldn’t be ignoring it. But since the only thing that was affected was the final score and thus the winners and losers who bet the game, they’ll do everything they can to distance themselves from the story.
Did it not affect fantasy football? Isn’t fantasy football sanctioned at NFL.com?
The NFL, the Vegas, and the zebras … They are a bunch of crooks working together to take your money !
What a ripoff! This should be reviewed by the NFL, the refs should be fined, and the final score should be changed to reflect what actually happened on the field. Calls like this make you want to think “the fix is in”
EARTH TO W BRUN…..THE FIX IS, HAS BEEN , AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE IN AS LONG AS ORGANIZED GAMBLING EXISTS. IT’S LIKE A COP ONCE TOLD ME–NAME ONE LEGITIMATE REASON FOR OWNING A SILENCER- NO CAN DO. LIKEWISE, NAME ONE LEGITIMATE REASON FOR THE NFL ISSUING A DETAILED INJURY REPORT EVERY THURSDAY ( THE ONLT SPORT THAT DOES IT). DON’T SAY FANTASY FOOTBALL, AS THIS REPORT HAS EXISTED SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THE MODERN NFL. ITS FOR GAMBLING—ONLY FOR HANDICAPPING YOUR PLAYS- STEVE WYNN IS STEVE WYNN BECAUSE OF CALLS LIKE THIS–THE MONEY WAS 85+% ON THE STEELERS- THAY NEEDED A CHARGER COVER, AND WHAT THEY NEED, THEY GET- YESTERDAY, TONIGHT, AND FOREVER. THE ONLY REASON TO GAMBLE IS THE TWIST TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHICH WAY BENEFITS THE BOOKMAKERS, AND GO THAT WAY. IF YOU WALK DOWN THE STREET AND ASK 10 PEOPLE WHO THEY LIKE TONIGHT, IF ITS 5-5, DONT BOTHER. WHEN YOU GET THE 9-1 RESPONSE, GO WITH THE ONE. THE NINE ARE BEING LED TO SLAUGHTER LIKE THE SACRIFICIAL LAMBS THAT WE ARE. HATE TO SOUND LIKE A CONSPIRACY FREAK, BUT WHEN IT LOOKS LIKE A DOG, BARKS LIKE A DOG, CRAPS LIKE A DOG, GROWLS LIKE A DOG……. IT MIGHT BE A DOG.
Sounds like guy could make some scratch going against the public on a regular basis.
I’m a card carrying skeptic and anti-conspiracy theorists. But those who’ve said it’s the usual bs are not, I think, aware of a few things.
1. “An estimated 100 million dollars was wagered worldwide on the Pittsburgh/San Diego game, according to RJ Bell of Pregame.com. Approximately 66% of that money was on the Steelers; with only 34% on the Chargers.
”If the touchdown was properly upheld, Steelers bettors would have won about 32 million dollars instead of losing big. This admittedly incorrect call resulted in a 64 million dollar swing in favor of the bookies.” said RJ Bell of Pregame.com.
2. There was a 23-1 penalty yardage disparity in the game (115 Steelers – 5 Chargers) Must be the record, or close to it. It’s certainly the most penalty yardage called on the Steelers in six years.
4. Both of the last two times Steelers touch the ball has officials calling back a Steelers touchdown (which would have beat the spread). Once clearly wrongly (see above). The other’s interesting, too. How many times do the refs call a phantom hold on the home team’s winning touchdown with 30 seconds left in the game?
5. Chargers get a touchdown via a pass interference penalty that clearly didn’t happen. (The commentators point this out.)
I don’t have to have an opinion. Just pointing out facts. Draw your own conclusions.
I’m from Pittsburgh, and obvioulsy took them -5. I am mad because I did lose money on the game. Seriously though, nobody has mentioned this yet, but why was the play ever reviewed in the first place? There was absolutely no reason to look at it. Any way refs discussed the play to try and spin it, all results pointed to a Steeler win, so why even review it? Everyone is talking about the referees mixed up in the gambling ring, but isn’t this a booth review? Do we have to worry about them now too?
It was a booth review, and apparently they were looking at LT’s lateral to see if it was legal.
They should have deemed it legal and let the play (and TD) stand as it was. Kick the extra point and the final score should have been 18-10.
Even if it was illegal John, the play was supposed to be played out, and Pittsburgh would have declined the penalty anyway. No matter how you look at it, the TD should have stood right?
Yes, that is my understanding. If the pass in question had hit the ground, I believe that the play would be dead there, but since LT’s lateral did not hit the ground, the penalty would have been declined. TD PIT.
