Brady Quinn to make first career start
The moment Cleveland Browns fans have been waiting for his finally here. Derek Anderson has officially been benched and second-year quarterback Brady Quinn will make his first career NFL start against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.
Browns quarterback Brady Quinn will start Thursday night against the Denver Broncos, a Browns spokesman said this afternoon. It will be Quinn’s first start in the NFL.
Derek Anderson was benched after going 3-5 the first half of the season. Anderson is coming off a 37-27 loss to to the Baltimore Ravens in which he threw a costly interception at the end that thwarted any hopes of a comeback. The loss left the Browns at 1-3 in the division.
Anderson has nobody to blame but himself. Romeo Crennel gave him every opportunity to hang on to his job and outside of a great performance against the Giants on Monday night a few weeks ago, DA did nothing to honor the team handing him a new contract in the offseason. I’ve been a big Anderson supporter since early last year, but the guy just couldn’t get it done.
As for Quinn, he deserves the opportunity to start. Even though he succeeded in a pro style offense at Notre Dame, his footwork was a major concern for NFL scouts and it’ll be interesting to see if the Browns have fixed that. He’ll have a great matchup against a Denver team that has been brutal defensibly this season. They can’t tackle, aren’t very aggressive and if Champ Bailey misses another week, Quinn will have an opportunity to put up some decent numbers.

As a Browns fan, I’ll just say: it’s about freaking TIME!! I don’t think Quinn is the savior, but he’s sure to be more accurate and consistent than DA.
I agree with you…its about time. Sundays game was enough, lets go here put the guy in he and will not do any worse.
Wow – big news.
The Browns have been a big disappointment. They had a chance to get back in it but then choked against Baltimore.
It’s a god move, but I feel bad for Anderson. e has a great arm, and if Braylon Edwards hadn’t dropped so many passes this season the Browns might have a couple more wins and Anderson might still have his job.
I’m betting this decison came from the top. Fansare pissed, and this will get plenty of buz for the nationally televised game on Thursday night.
The Browns made a mistake to sign Anderson to a long-term deal in the off-season. Once again, a one year wonder makes a boat load of money. Owners do your homework before spending your money foolishly.
DA is due a big roster bonus before the start of next season, so the Browns kind of protected themselves by essentially making this a one-year “prove it” deal. They’ll try to deal him now and if they can’t do that, they may cut him rather than pay him the bonus.
That, of course, is assuming Quinn hangs on to the job all season.
Go Browns!! Let the Brady Quinn era begin!
DA’s contract isn’t that bad. Plenty of teams need a QB, so they should be able to get something for him if Quinn keeps the job.
I’m with Thomas Conroy. Why do owners jump out and overspend millions so early ? Why ? Because ESPN pimps these guys after they have a few good weeks ? All that money for D A ? A guy who had a few good games. We have to give Aaron Rogers a contract for 5 years in the middle of the season ? Why ? 20 teams are chasing him ? Charlie Weiss coaches about 6 games – then they add on 10 years ? Tony Romo $65 million ? How about $35 million and see if he can win a playoff game ? A-Rod 10 years ? Why not 5 years ? Stupit ! I can’t wait for these teams to try to unload these guys with their wild salaries. Ahh, just charge us more at the gate or for tv rights – we’ll absorb it. Relax.
