		<description>That&#039;s a great point. For a ref to determine whether or not there was malice when grabbing a faskmask is ridiculous - especially when they only have three seconds to make the call.</description>

Every color commentary guy talks about how good it is to take &quot;judgment calls&quot; away from the officials, but if the refs had the option to call the 5-yard penalty there, they probably would have. Now officials have to decide if a facemask grab is a 15-yard penalty or nothing at all, and it seems like more and more facemasks are going uncalled as a result.

While the old rule was in effect, I don&#039;t remember too many times when I was watching a game thinking, &quot;wow, the ref should have called a 15-yarder instead of a 5-yarder there&quot; or vice versa. It was pretty simple. Innocent facemask grab = 5 yards. Facemask grab with twist = 15 yards. There&#039;s arguably more judgment required for the new rule than the old one.</description>
