Manny Ramirez wants to be a Yankee
According to the New York Post via a close friend of Manny Ramirez, the former Red Sox outfielder wants to be a Yankee next year.
According to people who have spoken to the eccentric outfielder since he was dealt to L.A. on July 31, Ramirez wants to sign a free-agent deal with the Yankees this offseason and get 19 chances a year to punish Boston.
“He wants to play for the Yankees so he can get at the Red Sox,” a close friend of Ramirez’s told The Post.
Of course, every free agent says he wants to play for the Yankees. They pay well, will always have a chance to make the postseason, and when they show an interest in a free agent, the price from other clubs skyrockets.
Considering Ramirez is represented by Scott Boras, every imaginable angle will be played when the 36-year-old, a product of George Washington High School in Washington Heights, will become a free agent following the World Series.
Yankees GM Brian Cashman would not comment on the situation. Ramirez forced the Red Sox to deal him to the Dodgers by badmouthing the organization, not hustling and sitting out a July 25 game against the Yankees with a knee injury that didn’t show up on an MRI the next day.
Well that’s a big middle finger to the Red Sox now isn’t it? How about the Dodgers, too? Hey thanks for trading for me L.A., but there’s no chance in hell I’m going to re-sign with you because I want to piss off my former team.
Obvious statement of the century: Manny is a nut, regardless of if this report is true or not.

If you remember, I called this the day he got traded on July 31st!
If I was Francona I’d walk him EVERY time he got up!

Good call. I expect him to be in NY next year, though I think the Dodgers might make a big play for him.
That would be pretty disappointing if this report is true. Being from LA, and watching every game Manny has played in since coming aboard, we’ve taken to him very quickly. Obviously, it’s been his outstanding performance, but coupled with his energy and persona, attendance and excitement has increased tremendously. We would love him to stay. He’s the big bat we didn’t get when we signed Jones. Sure, hopping over to the Yankees would be appropriate, but oh so predictable. The Dodgers are slowly coming around. Manny, give them a shot.
Lets see – he’s over 36 years of age, a whacko, on the downside of his career and nobody wants to give him $20 mill a year for four years …. Hmmm – Yea thats right – he’ll be with the Yankees. Why ? Because they can. And agents/Yankees run the League.
Bud the Slug
They can have him. You know the yanks are gonna overload with big signings and probably increase their payroll about 100 mill with the new ballpark in ’09. Manny, Sabathia, Teixeria-anyone is fair game. Red Sox should try to to at least get Teixeria even though that would be a logjam with Youkilis.
Everything goes through the Yankees. If they want him – they will have him. They have the most money and the agents know it.
Scott Bora$$
I’m buying some of them 1000.00 dollar seats now to see the NEW Yankees next year…Out with the new and in with the old is our motto.
This is what I like, the Yankees are barely holding on to 3rd place, they can’t score a run with guys on, have no pitching and 90% of the baseball world is worring about the Yankees next year. It’s amazing that anyone gives a crap.
This is why everything goes through the Yankee. Win or loose its still about them.
MANNY IS A LOSER, HE SAID HE WANTED TO PLAY FOR THE DODGERS,BUT ONCE HE FOUND OUT WHAT THEY WANT TO GIVE HIM HE NOW WANTS TO PLAY FOR THE YANKEES BECAUSE THEY MIGHT GIVE HIM MORE YEARS AND $$$..
This is what happens when you don’t have a cap kids. He will use the yankees to drive up the price – and all of our teams pay the price and so do you at the gate ………. pathetic. The worst part of professional sports right there. The yankees have firsts rights to everyone, everytime.
lets say he does go to the CASHmans – then they will have A-Rod, Manny, and Hanky doing their Brain damaged act ? Holy Shit ! Just throw 3-rings around the new Stadium – now thats a circus boys and girls.
Yankee Pride
Bay44,there is a cap. It is what the market will bear. Don’t delude yourself that some how the fan would reap the benefits of dollars saved by a salary cap. The owners will keep it. The choice is; will the players get the money or will the owners. The fan will get screwed either way. As long as people show up at places like Yankee Stadium and pay through the nose for it nothing will change.
My Friend, KC53 ……. There is a Cap ?
C C
Signing Manny would be like signing Giambi… Lots of $$$ for a guy that can Hit but can’t play his position. Manny is just a mediocre outfielder.
As for The Yankees having all the $$ and buying everything they want… Lets see… we started out just like everyone else with a limited budget YEARS and YEARS ago. We’ve managed to see Great Ballplayers come through our doors, LONG Before Free agency, and over marketed trades. We’ve won more championships during these era’s then with the inflated market we see today. Thus establishing a Fan base to which Yankee fans often SELL OUT the Stadium.
We have the money because we have a REAL fan base. During the 80′s to mid090′s, when the Yankees were doing poorly (or just not making the playoffs or World Series… Nobody complained. But Now since the Yankee’s have dominated for so many years it’s an issue.
So UP to your Teams Stadium, EVEN WHEN THEY ARE LOOSING. Spend your money on shirts and Team items and eventually you will have revenue to purchase players like A-Rod, CC, etc.
Stop making excuses for your team not making it. The Yankees didn’t make the playoffs last year. Havn’t won a world series in yrs. We the Fans still buy hats and come pack the stadium.
I do think that Manny will be a Yankee next year, because the Dodgers will possibly make a 3 year 60 million deal. But, as everyone knows, the Yankees will always come out on top when it comes to spending money. $$$$
Manny would be great protection for Alex, Not to mention great for his team Imagine the one two punch of Manny, Arod? The possibillities “HOPE I SPELLED IT RIGHT” are endless! Yes I do understand that he is a headcase, And He really did great in LA . But imagine him batting against the Mighty Boston Redsox? Well good luck Boston, LA and all the other teams in the hunt, It looks like its going to be a fun off season!
I KNOE YOU GONNA GO TO THE YANKEES…
Ima a boston fan but since ramirez left f**k boston they f**king stink…..they could suck my d**k
