(scene interior - Lambeau Field. November 3, 2008. Packers GM Ted Thompson sits at his desk wondering if he should make this call.)

Ted Thompson - "Hey, Brett. I know you've been watching. Rogers is out for the season. Tim Rattay just went down. Craig Nall is terrible. Other than that, the team is firing on all cylinders. The O-line is tearing 'em up. The D-line is sacking everybody in sight. We're 8-1 after losing to the Bears (sigh), but I tell you, we can do this thing. Whaddya say, Brett? Once more for the team?"

Yeah, I think he would have to consider it.

Favre has been such a gold mine for sports writers over the years, it seems like they just keep going back to the well.

I agree on both accounts. As a general fan, you get to the point of, "All right, do you want to retire or not? Because if you do - retire already so we can move on."

But I also completely agree that Favre isn't the type to try and keep his name in the spotlight for as long as possible. He seems like a passionate guy and is driven on emotion, which plays into what you said about him having a hard time walking away from the game.
