72 Dolphins, and Joe Montana, can breathe easy
It will rank as one of the ultimate choke jobs. The Patriots go 18-0, dominating most of the way, only to lose the Super Bowl to the Giants on a touchdown drive at the end of the game. I guess the 1972 Miami Dolphins get the last laugh.
Also, I heard a lot of talk about Tom Brady being better than Joe Montana. He has more years left in his career to make that argument, but he isn’t there yet. It’s funny how mortal Tom Brady looks when a defense can put pressure on him.

The Pats didn’t choke. They were beaten by a team that played better football.
Yes. The Giants played better football and deserved to win. This isn’t taking anything away from them.
But the Patriots had a chance to make history, and when it really counted they didn’t come through. Choke might be too strong of a term, but they certainly did not rise to the occasion.
I think, based on how flat they looked last night and the fact that they had history within their reach, that it’s accurate to say the Pats choked. They were great all season but when it came time to clinch history at 19-0, they fell on their faces.
Funny how almost every team that loses looks “flat”. Did Brady’s offensive line play poorly or did the Giants defensive line play great? To say the Patriots choked takes away from the incredible performance of an underrated Giants team. If the Patriots were flat for the superbowl and a chance to go 19-0, there’s no game they could ever get up for.
I don’t think it takes away from the Giants if you say the Pats were flat. The Giants did completely take away what the Pats wanted to do offensively, but it did appear that New England thought it would just roll into the game and the Giants would lie down.
Saying that doesn’t diminish what the Giants accomplished and neither does saying that the Pats choked a bit. They were 19-0! The Giants were amazing and to some degree the Pats choked. You can say both, T-Bone.
