this is week 15 question, but throwin it in so i can get good k asap:
which kicker shud i use week 15:
J. Brown, gostkowski, kaeding, elam, longwell, rackers, or suisham?
You can’t go wrong with Gostkowski. After that, Elam and Rackers have nice matchups.
This is my first stab at playing FF and, after losing 4 in a row, I managed (thanks to waiver wire pickups) to win my last 2 games and I am now in our league playoffs.
If possible, would you give me some advice on which offensive players to play. I play in a PPR league. FYI…I was able to acquire a few more waiver wire pickups this week.
QB (pick 1): P. Manning or D. Garrard
RB (pick 2 or 3): W. McGahee, J. Fargas, Kolby Smith, Ladell Betts, Fred Jackson, R. Dayne
WR (pick 3 or 4): Ocho Cinco, Chris Henry, Bryant Johnson, Mike Furrey, Justin Gage, Santana Moss
I will be playing Dallas Clark as my TE and Josh Brown as my kicker.
Thanks JP! I made it to playoff… Is playoff this week…
QB = Jon Kitna or Kurt Warner
WR1 = Reggie Wayne
WR2 = Plaxico Burress or Chris Henry or Bryant Johnson or Patrick Crayton?
RB1 = Willie Parker
RB2 = Justin Fargas
TE = Chris Cooley
W/R = Chris Henry or Rudi Johnson or Patrick Crayton or Bryant Johnson or Fred Jackson or Julius Jones?
DEF = Jax ok? Or should I pick up KC, Houston, Oakland or Cleveland?
One question about Kicker, I have Phil Dawson, OK? Or should I pick up someone?
John, playoff football strategy session…
Travis Henry or Kevin Jones? I am currently starting Henry against KC’s weak run defense and Detroit’s recent tendency to rely on the passing game.
Plaxico or Engram? I am at odds here. Plaxico is hurting and not really playing well but my opponent will be starting Hasselbeck this weekend, so do I stay away from Engram because they just cancel each other out or do I do that exact thing (especially with Plaxico hurting)?
Mr. V – Good to hear that you made the playoffs. Did you use some of my waiver wire recommendations or did you pick up these guys on your own?
Anyway, at QB, I don’t see any reason to bench Manning. I think the Ravens will be a little deflated after last week’s loss to the Patriots. At RB, I’d go with the guys that are hot – McGahee and Fargas. Neiither guy has a bad matchup and both are running the ball well. An argument could be made for starting Smith against DEN, but Fargas has been more dependable so far. Smith could be used as your flex, if you have one. At WR, CJ, Furrey and B. Johnson look pretty good. I’d start Smith over Henry at a flex position.
Scorpion – Congrats! I’ll look for a check for 10% of your winnings
At QB, I’d go with Kitna. Neither guy has a particularly good matchup, but DET figures to be playing catch up all day so KItna should rack up a ton of yards. At WR, Crayton looks like a nice start against a suspect Lions defense. At your flex, I like F. Jackson if Lynch and A-Train are still out. If Jackson isn’t going to get the start, then I’d go with Burress, B. Johnson and Henry, in that order. At DT, JAX looks like a nice start this week at home against Carolina. At K, Dawson has a nice matchup, but keep an eye on the weather. If it’s going to rain hard or be really windy, you may want to target a warm weather or dome kicker.
Striketeam – welcome back! Good to see you’re still alive.
The season-long numbers show Henry’s matchup is quite a bit better than KJ’s. The only worry with Henry is that last week he actually was backing up Selvin Young before Young left the game with an injury. If Young is healthy, the consensus seems to be that the two will split carries, which may make KJ the better play. I’d wait and see about Young’s status before making this call. If he’s out, go with Henry. If he’s going to play, I’d start KJ.
Plax or Bobby? If Burress were healthy, I’d go with him, but he’s nicked up and is lacking burst, so it’s probably wise to stay away. Engram is starting in place of Hackett and has a good matchup this week. Don’t expect Engram to set the world on fire, but he should be good for 6-8 catches for 60-80 yards and maybe a score.
JP
Yes I did use your waiver wire suggestions…
Thanks for the help!
Mr. V
Engram even though I am playing against Hasselbeck, correct?
Yes, that’s fine. If Hass goes off, you’re probably covered since Engram will probably have a good game as well. I try to avoid setting my lineup in response to my opponent’s lineup. It’s best to run the starting lineup out there that you think will put up the most points, period.
No problem if I win it all, give me your address
!
Question on QB, should I pick up Luke McCown and start him over Kitna?
Thanks!
What about Chris Redman?
Kitna, McCown or Redman?
And what do you think of Ram’s run defense? Do you think Rudi Johnson will be a better bet than Burress? (if M.Lynch is going to start instead of Fred Jackson)
What about Fast Willie? Do you think he will have a tough time running against NE D? If M.Lynch doesn’t start, should I start Justin, Rudi and Fred?
JP,
Hey I have a couple of questions; first here is my line-up that I know I am starting (this is a PPR league)
T.O.
Witten
R. Grant
A. Peterson
GB Def.
woops hit return,
Here is my team – question marks after the ones Im having trouble with.
QB – P. Manning @ Balt. or D. Anderson @ NYJ ???
WR – T.O.
RB – J. Fargas @ GB or T. Jones Cle. or F. Taylor Car. ???
TE – Witten
W/R – D. Branch Ari., James Jones Oak., K. Curtis NYG, or L. Washington Clev.??
W/R – A. Peterson
W/R – R. Grant
I also have M. Harrison but think it is too early for him. WIth this team I need to know who you would start in my PPR league – I have so many close calls!!!
Thanks,
Nick
JP,
I need three recievers out of this bunch for a TD-based league:
- Housh
- Andre Johnson
- Roddy White
- Calvin Johnson
- Bobby Engram
I’m leaning toward Housh, AJ and Roddy, but Calvin is tempting with Roy Williams out…what do you think?
AS
Scorpion – I’d stick with Kitna over McCown and Redman. He should throw for a lot of yards and at least one TD or two against DAL. I think Burress should get the nod over Rudi. But I would start Fred Jackson, Parker and Fargas if Lynch doesn’t start.
Nick – I wouldn’t bench Manning, and I’d go with Fargas at GB. Branch looks like a real good start against the Cardinals. Too early for Marvin I think.
Anthony – Housh, AJ and Roddy look good to me, though Calvin is tempting. With the news that Redman should start, I think Roddy is probably the play. (Expect a good game from Calvin too.)
JP, would you start Tarvaris Jackson over Kitna and Warner?
Scorpion – No. I don’t trust Jackson as far as I can throw him.
QB = McNabb or Bulger or Jackson or Garrard or Warner?
WR2 = Colston or Evans or Crayton or C.Henry or McDonald?
RB1 = Jones-Drew
RB2 = F.Taylor or Maroney or T.Henry or Jacobs or Dayne or Morris or S.Young?
W/R = who from the above?
DEF = TB or Minnesota or Dallas or NYG or Denver?
QB = Garrard (next best is McNabb, but it’s his first game back – Garrard is more trustworthy)
WR2: = Colston
RB2 = Henry (if he starts) or Ron Dayne
W/R = tough call, for upside I’d probably go with Crayton (or McDonald if you just want some sure points)
DEF = DAL
JP, knowing how well the Eagles played the Patriots shut down Randy Moss, should I be concern starting Burress on my W/R spot? Lynch looks like going to start, do you think Fred Jackson will still have majority of the carry? Against Miami D, should I start Fred instead? Or should I start Rudi Johnson against the Rams’ D?
What about Aaron Stecker?
JP, 1 more question, with Boldin and Fitzgerald questionable, do you think Bryant Johnson a better option than the above?
Thanks!
Jay Hawks – With Henry and Jacobs both starting, I think I’d start Jacobs in your RB2 slot. I’d start Henry over Crayton in the flex.
Scorpion – Fred Jackson is no longer a viable start. WIth the news that Reggie Bush is out for Monday night, I’d go with Stecker in that flex spot.
Which 3 should I start, Bobby Engram , Brandon Marshall, Marques Colston and Hines Ward? Thank you JP!!
Thanks JP, but I thought you said start Crayton as WR2 over Plaxico, and start Fred Jackson on the flex spot, if Lynch play, go with Plaxico.
So, if I start Stecker on the flex spot, should I stick with Crayton on the WR2 or Plaxico?
Swen – I’d go with Colston, Ward and Engram. Ward has been on fire of late and Marshall goes up against a very tough KC pass defense.
Scorpion – Lynch is going to play, so Jackson isn’t viable. Bush’s injury pushes Stecker up the list, so I’d go with Stecker. Burress/Crayton is tough. Crayton could have a great game, but if the score gets out of hand quickly, DAL may not throw the ball much in the second half. NYG/PHI should be a good game, so Burress should be involved for four quarters. I guess I’d go with Plax, but it’s basically a coin flip.
Boy, Swen, I hope you didn’t follow my advice and bench Marshall. I way overestimated how good the KC defense is.
