Here’s what the local columnist are saying the wake of their team losing on Sunday:
- Jim Mashek of the Sun Herald recounts Sean Payton’s inexplicable decision to call a double reverse with three minutes left in the Saints’ 27-23 loss to the Bucs, instead of playing it safe and just running out the clock. The play led to a fumble, which Tampa recovered and eventually turned into the winning touchdown.
- Jay Mariotti of the Chicago Sun-Times rips everyone in the Bears’ organization from Lovie Smith on down to the players.
- Bud Shaw of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that the Browns need to be smarter on Sundays if they want to make the postseason.
- Woody Paige of the Denver Post notes that the Broncos’ 34-20 loss to the Raiders was an obscene mess.
- Michael Rosenberg of the Detroit Free Press tries to figure out what happed to the Lions, who were once 6-2 this season.
- Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald says that at this point, this is the lowest point in Miami Dolphin history.
- Mike Wise of the Washington Post says that with a blown timeout call at the end of the Redskins’ 17-16 loss to the Bills, Joe Gibbs added to a long, tragic week.

Oh Man – what a poor call by the Saints down the stretch …. WHY ?
Dolphins just got beat by Naple High School … the lowest point in history is right now.
10 wins now KITNA ?
Wow – I thought the Lions would come back down to Earth, but not with a crash landing.
Oh, the Lions are in deep trouble.
All of a sudden the defense started to play like everyone thought it would at the start of the season and Mike Martz looks befuddled. He doesn’t run the ball and therefore, the offense has no balance or rhythm. That also leads to Kitna making mistakes and taking a bounding (defenses are sending the house at him when he’s in an empty backfield). It’s easy to defend a team when you know they’re going to pass every down.
That genius label Martz has is taking a huge hit right now.
And Dallas is on the way up to MoTown ………….. UT-OH.
