Packers offensive lineman Mark Tauscher summed it up perfectly following Green Bay’s 19-13 OT victory over the Broncos Monday night when he said, “If you say he can’t do something, you can pretty much guarantee that he will.” That “he” Tauscher was referring to is quarterback Brett Favre.
Once again Favre delivered Monday Night Football greatness when he connected with receiver Greg Jennings on an 82-yard touchdown pass to lift the Packers to victory and a 6-1 record on the season. Just two weeks prior, Favre was criticized for throwing several short passes in Green Bay’s 17-14 victory over the Redskins. Critics started to wonder if Favre had the arm strength to throw the deep ball anymore.
Well, he does. So stop thinking this guy is going to fall apart and just enjoy the ride.

It really is an amazing turn around – at this time last year, we were damn near wiped out up here. 2005 had been a 4-12 year, and we started 1-4 before the bye in 2006.
Now I don’t think there’s anybody in the NFC we can’t beat if we play a clean game. Last night was nothing like a clean game – yeah, we had over a hundred yards rushing. We also had over a hundred yards in penalties.
At 6-1, I don’t think there’s any doubt that we’re overachieving, but like you said, I’m lovin’ the ride.
The offense really gets in its own way sometimes. Penalties especially, but the conservative playcalling with a 3- or 6-point lead is pretty questionable. The offense is better than the last few years, and that has a lot to do with a trio of good wideouts and an offensive line that is coming together, but they don’t execute anywhere near the level that the Holmgren teams did.
I’m lovin’ the defense though. It was a little shaky early on, but it’s a good sign when your defense gets better as the game goes on. Aaron Kampman is the man.
GO PACK!
I am a huge Kampman fan….. well i guess every Packer fan should be. I am from Iowa and he went to U of IOWA . I was hoping that the pack would’ve taken Bob Sanders the year he went but the colts seem to take the best team players in the draft year in and year out (with Dungy). Think about some of their draft picks – Bob Sanders, Dallas Clark, Tony Ugoh, Anthony Gonzales, Joeseph Addai, Reggie Wayne. Those are some impressive players THEY drafted.
What, you don’t like Justin Harrell???? He’s way better than Greg Olsen.
I think you’re a closet Colts fan, Nick!
I like Justin Harrell I think he will a good player in the next couple of years – is Gregg Olson going to help A.J. Hawk tackle A. Peterson??? No, give Harrell some time!!!! He will be a good player.
Oi, I’d love to have Olsen roaming the middle this season. Plus, he wouldn’t have been on the Bears to give the Packers their only loss. He was the only Bear who did anything that game (except for Desmond Clark’s TD).
This is all hindsight and therefore – total BS – but here goes.
I gotta go with John on this one. We could have traded down and gotten Olsen – improved our draft situation and gotten help where we seriously needed it.
Instead, we have a guy we still don’t know much about riding the bench behind some of our best players. I thought at the time that we should have traded up for Lynch, down for Olsen or taken Reggie Nelson. All appeared to be as good as Harrell and fit our team’s needs better, but since we have Harrell, I suppose I’ll be a Justin Harrell fan.
I hope the kid absolutely rocks and our D-line dominates for years – thinking nothing but the best for him, but you have to admit, he hasn’t paid off much yet. Time will tell.
I was ready to put Ted Thompson’s head on a pike after our first two draft picks, but at 6-1, he and Coach Mike must be doing something right. Consider my pie hole well and properly shut on that matter. Here’s hoping I’m wrong about Harrell too.
Yeah it’s tough to second-guess TT after last year’s draft where he found so many starters. I sure hope Harrell pans out, but it would be nice to have Olsen as another offensive weapon in the passing game. David Lee has been servicable, but he doesn’t have the speed to stretch the field (despite the big pass play a couple of weeks ago). I guess it’s a battle of taking a pick for now and taking one for the future. As it turns out, Olsen would have helped us win now.
By the way, is anyone else noticing the relationship between Favre and Aaron Rodgers? It seems like AR is always there to greet Brett on the sideline and Brett always seems happy to see him. That bodes well for Rodgers long-term prospects I think as it indicates that the two are getting along and Brett is probably sharing a lot of his knowledge with the young guy.
