Let’s start with a couple of questions from last week’s thread:
Scorpion wrote:
JP,
I was panic when Kitna was out yesterday, my back-up QB is Grossman, so I dropped Clayton and picked up Kellen Clemens.
Now, I’m in need of a third WR… I have Patrick Crayton of Dallas, should I keep him or drop him for one of the following WRs,
Dennis Northcutt, Stokley, Roydell Williams, Anthony Gonzalez, Marty Booker, Mike Furrey, Dwayne Bowe, Bobby Engram, Roddy White or Jason Avant?
Clemens looked decent, but I’d probably backup Kitna with his backup, J.T. O’Sullivan. He played all right when Kitna was out and would be in a better position to succeed in the Lions’ offense than Clemens would with the Jets. Besides, the word is that Chad Pennington’s job is waiting for him when he gets back.
I’d hold onto Crayton. He suffered a dislocated finger and should be good to go next week. He faces a tough Bears D, but over the long haul, I still think he’s going to have a nice year.

do u think i shud trade big ben and b edwards for dev henderson and drew brees?
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! The Saints look awful right now, so Brees’ stock is at an all time low. Big Ben is playing well and Braylon Edwards’ stock took a big jump yesterday. Hold onto Ben and Braylon.
What’s the latest on Kevin Jones? I hear he looks “awesome” in practice and with Tatum Bell struggling, could he be active next week?
Thanks.
What’s the latest of Plaxico Burress? Did he hurt his ankle enough to miss any time? Need to know! Help.
Jeff – It looks like KJ may return next week. Bell struggled this week, but keep in mind that MIN has one of the best rush defenses in the league. I expect the Lions will work KJ back into the fold over the next few weeks. If he plays well, he could be RB1 there by mid-season.
JJ – The New York Daily News is saying that Burress re-aggravated his ankle injury, but expects to play next week. Keep an eye on him this week. If you can, grab Toomer as insurance.
Are you sold on Jamal Lewis now? He looked awesome on Sunday. Looks like he has his speed back!
Not completely sold, because he took advantage of a pretty bad Cincy D, but he should be a solid RB2 going forward, which makes him a nice value where he was being drafted in August (5th-6th round). I see some nice games in his future as well as a few 25-carry, 60-yard, 0-TD efforts. Of course, if Derek Anderson keeps playing QB like that, all bets are off.
Garrard = 30
Vince = 27
If this were 20 yd passing and/or 6pt passing TD’s, I would have a much greater margin…
In other news, I’ve been offered LaMont Jordan for Donald Driver in a straight up trade. My team is 2-0 and I don’t want to break the pace, but I actually like this trade.
Jordan would replace Deuce as my flex teamed with Gore RB1 and McGahee RB2. Patrick Crayton or Nate Burleson would replace Driver as my WR3 behind Harrison and Housh until DJ Hackett returns. Mike Furrey, Marty Booker and Jurevicious are free agents.
I’m in need of an unbiased opinion.
Hey, you agreed to the terms. Garrard has faced ATL and TEN while Young has faced JAX and IND. That said, I still feel pretty good.
This Jordan trade looks pretty good as well. I love Driver, but it’s easier to find a servicable WR3 than a RB3 and Deuce is really sucking it up. LaMont looks like he’s back.
is big ben and b edwards worth trading for d brees and henderson?
The only thing that worries me about the LaMont for Driver trade is Dominic Rhodes. The last thing I want to do is trade away Driver for a temporary RB. Everyone seems to think that it’s now LaMont’s job to lose, but I envision a RBBC around weeks 8-13.
Should I stay safe and consistent or go for the homerun? This seems too good to be true, you know what I mean?
shud i drop miami d and pik up oakland d for this week?
Gator Bait – If you’re worried about Jordan losing touches to Rhodes, then stick with Driver. I think Rhodes will take over Fargas’ role (5-8 carries a game) and Jordan will get 15-25 carries the rest of the way. He is running the ball really well.
gators – I’d hold onto Miami for now. OAK has CLE who looked great last week, while the Fins have the Jets and possibly face Clemens at QB.
i have been playing reggie bush every week so far do u think a guy should stick with him otherwise i have jamal lewis and lamont jordan on the bench which has been killing me the last two weeks. what do u think?
Riley – Is this a PPR league? If so, I’d probably stick with him against the Titans. If not, LaMont Jordan looks like a nice play against the Browns.
out of these 3 which one shud start
cotch
chambers
curry
I have no clu wen it comes to kickers so i got a couple i was thinking of
Akers
Carney
Reed
Gostkow
Crosby
Which one shud i get to start?
Gators – I feel most confident in Cotchery and he has a medicore matchup against Miami. But Curry has by far the best matchup (against CLE), so if you feel good about the rest of your roster, it might be worth rolling the dice. Is this a PPR league? If so, I’d go Cotch. If it’s not, Curry is probably the better play. I don’t trust Chambers, not when you have two other good options.
As far as kickers go, Gost has the best matchup of that bunch, but Reed isn’t far behind.
Q’s for Wk 3:
-QB McNabb (Det) or Hassleback (Cincy) – I’m leaning McNabb
-Start 2: Gore (Pit), Portis (NYG), Jordan (Cle) – Dare I sit Gore?
-Lastly, not that it matters much, but LJSmith (Det) or McMichaels (TBB)?
JP…
Week 3 question. Do I start Ahman Green vs Indy or Cadillac Williams vs St Louis?
Thanks,
Striketeam
Zookeeper – I lean McNabb as well. I think they’ll get things straightened out against DET, who has faced two suspect QBs in J. McCown and T. Jackson. Hass has a nice matchup, but you should start McNabb.
I don’t think you can bench Gore, even if he’s playing PIT. I’d go with Gore and Jordan, assuming Jordan’s back heals up this week. Portis has a great matchup, but WAS lost another O-lineman and the Giants will probably play above their heads in a division matchup.
Smith vs. McMichael…hmm, I’d probably go with Smith assuming he plays.
Striketeam – Take the Caddy out of the garage this week! I’m not super-high on Williams, but he should have a good day against a pretty bad STL rush defense. Ahman has been looking good, but IND is fairly strong against the run and Ron Dayne has been eating into his carries. Plus, HOU might have a tough time keeping that one close.
Welcome to the blog.
is there any reason to sit rothlisberg or kitna for cambell vs giants?
i have 2 starting qbs in my league
i dont trust dolphin d vs pennington, especially since i jets fan…
who shud i pik up
cleveland
kc
tb
oak
gb
washington
indy
NO
or if u rlly trust dolphins, shud i keep them?
Anon – Campbell has a great matchup, but I don’t think I’d start him over Kitna and Big Ben.
gators – If you’re looking to cut the Fins, I’d go with GB and IND in that order. It’s not a bad time to cut MIA if you can grab one of those two.
JP – Owen Daniels this week or stick with Vernon Davis? I like Schaub throwing to Daniels without A.Johnson, but I’m waiting/hoping/praying Davis breaks out sometime…
Also:
Issac Bruce, Lee Evans and Mike Fuerry – I need two in a PPR league and Kitna is my QB (obviously making Mike “Theo Fluerry” Fuerry a popular pick)…
Derek Anderson or McNabb?
Maroney or Jamal Lewis in a TD-heavy league, no PPR…
Thanks.
who would u run with this week kitna or favre
Next week my Jacksonville Jac will be on bye week, should I pick up Washington or Tennesse as my DEF?
Anthony – Davis did go in and lobby for more targets, so I expect SF will throw to him more often, but Daniels has been better thus far and the Texans will have to lean on him with AJ out. I expect HOU will be trailing so they should be throwing a lot.
WR – I’d stick with Evans for another week. He’s due for a good game.
McNabb vs. Anderson – I’d stick with McNabb, but I’m an advocate of playing your proven players. If you want to go with the hot hand, Anderson has a slightly better matchup against OAK than McNabb has against DET. But I think PHI will get it together this week.
Maroney vs. Jamal – I’d probably go with Jamal because he’ll get all his team’s goal line carries. Maroney has received less than half his team’s redzone carries.
riley – I think Kitna is the better play. SD might give GB some trouble, while the DET offense seems to go for a lot of yards no matter who they’re playing. Kitna is a much bigger injury risk, however.
JP,
i have Crosby as my kicker, but do you think Suisham (Washington) and or Brown (Houston) better?
JP,
Next week my Jacksonville Jac will be on bye week, should I pick up Washington or Tennesse as my DEF?
WAS and TEN are both on bye week in week 4, so you shouldn’t pick up either!
HOU has a great matchup and has looked good – are they available? KC, SEA, DAL, DET and BUF also have good matchups.
I’m OK with Crosby now. I wouldn’t be surprised to see GB bog down in the redzone against SD. I think HOU will have trouble moving the ball so FG opportunities might be limited for Brown. Suisham is about the same as Crosby.
I must have the worst luck with WR’s…this year I picked up Stallworth and R. Brown (Philadelphia)…..they’ve been a big dissapointment….do i need to bench them until they get in sync with their QB? I’ve started shopping and picked up Kevin Walter (Hou) and Andre Davis (Hou)….since Shaub has been impressive hooking up with his WR’s…I also picked up Drew Carter…..
My question is for week 3…who should I start….i’m leaning towards starting at least 1 of my Houston WR’s…….other then that…what do I do? We have a W/R position which currently I have Stallworth in it….Would you put Tatum Bell in that position instead…HELP me!!! my WR have killed me for 2 weeks now….
PW
oops… BUF is available, so I’ll pick them up after Sunday… Thanks JP!
JP, Plaxico is Questionable… my only option is Patrick Crayton, should I bench Plaxico and replace him with Patrick Crayton?
Or should I pick up Marty Booker? Or Dwayne Bowe? Or Anthony Gonzalez? Or Mike Furrey? Or Dennis Northcutt? Or Roddy White? Not a whole lot of option out there…
JP, do you think with the tough Chicago D, their secondary will focus on TO and Witten, and Patrick will get open?
But I don’t know if he is going to play just punt return beuase of his finger injury.
What do you think?
Phil – Kevin Walter is the only HOU WR that is guaranteed snaps with AJ out so I’d start him with R. Brown, who could have a good day against DET. Not sure about that flex position as neither Stallworth nor T. Bell are good options. I guess I’d go with Bell and hope that he gets the ball some. It looks like Donte is WR4 in NE.
Scorpion – If you can wait until just before kickoff to set your lineup, I’d watch rotoworld for news on Plax’s status and then take him out of the lineup if necessary. Otherwise, Crayton is a decent option if you have to set your lineup early.
On my other league,
I have L.Fitzgerald, but he hasn’t really done anything the past 2 weeks, and they are playing Bal this week… and my other WR A. Johnson is out… so, should I drop them 2, and pick up Deion Branch? Santana Moss (good play this week against Giant?) or Antwaan Randle El? Or Chris Chambers? Or Bernard Berrian? what about Shaun McDonald?
I have Brandon Jacob, C.Benson, J.Jones, should I drop these guys and pick up Derrick Ward? LenDale White?
Late Check:
Still think yes to Gore & Jordan & no to Portis? (I hate Gore’s matchup!)
Still McNabb over Hassleback? (either should be good, IMO)
Scorpion – I wouldn’t drop either Fitz or AJ. I’d keep starting Fitz – BAL isn’t that great against the pass. If you can pick up Branch, do so. Moss is a good play against the Giants. It would be nice to roster Chambers and Berrian as well.
I don’t really understand your league if guys like Branch, Ward and L. White are still available on the WW. Ward is a good fill in for Jacobs, but BJ will be back in a few weeks. Benson went over 100 yards last week, so I’d keep starting him.
Zookeeper – If you’re feeling Portis, I can’t blame you for starting him. He’s a talented runner against a bad DT. But WAS lost their best runblocker last week, so I’d start Gore, who seems to do well no matter who he’s playing.
I’d start McNabb.
JP…..what do you think about Chris Brown,Drew Carter, Tatum Bell & Jacoby Jones….i have stallworth starting at W/R in place of them…im starting to have 2nd thoughts…Thanks!!
I’m not real high on Stallworth, though he’s bound to have a few good games this season the way the Pats throw the ball around. Of that list, J. Jones should get some looks with AJ out and C. Brown should have some opportunity against a very bad Saints D. If it’s a PPR league, I’d probalby go with Jones – if not, Brown. Stallworth is close as well.
shud i start chambers over edwards, even after edwards sik start last week?
o ya and the point system is:
7 points= td
20 yds= 1pt
JP, who should I start as my 2 WRs?
B.Edwards (against Bal), L.Fitzgerald (against Pit), D.Branch?
Thanks!
JP, which DEF should I pick up?
Buf., NYJ, TB., NYG, Atl.?
JP, who is the better TE play this week?
Matt Spaeth, Bubba Franks, Donald Lee, Alex Smith, Jeff King, Leonard Pope?
